Developments with MagE

• Complete layout of Spectrograph structure and camera by B. Bigelow– Structure will be all anodized aluminum + bolts (like MIKE).

– Fabrication drawings exist for grating and prism assemblies, first mechanical pieces are being fabricated in MIT shop.

– All optics in hand, or to be delivered next month• Have coating quotes from OCLI, ZC&R and hybrid Sol-gel curves from CCI.

• Have contacted DRC metrigraphics to procure an “electroformed” slitmask.

• Working through design of mounting CCD on Si02 meniscus

– CCD repackaging on engineering grade e2V 42-20 did not deliver same characteristics as before removing wire bonds.

• Ian has details

• We’ll go with standard stock packaging for commissioning. (~7% hit in eff.)

– Converging on solutions to locate CCD mount on dewar window (Si02)

– Have arrived at initial designs to run cold finger, and electronics while minimizing obscuration in the beam.

Developments with MagE

• Optics to be finished (with coatings) by end of ‘05

• Cable wrap with Igus chain to be better integrated with Aux port rotator

• Electronics and control can be PLC driven, with only 110V and ethernet needed into MagE electronics box.

• Plan to complete spectrograph and send to Carnegie in Summer ‘06

• Would be ready to ship to LCO at end of ‘06.
