Any sudden accumulation ofwater can hamper work operations at areas where safety is

a great priority like in construction sites,

mines, quarries and other areas that involve earth works.

Flooding, water pollution, accumulation of

stormwater and other pollutants can stack up at such work

areas and if the workers cannot effectively

manage them, this can lead to unthinkable disasters

resulting to loss of lives. One way workers can

Dewatering is a process in which unwanted water isremoved from a site through pumping methods.

This involves getting water out of digging excavations

or trenches, eliminating standing bodies of water

and removing water that is suspended in soils. There

are various pumping methods and equipment that

can be applied in the process depending on the effort,

strategies and configurations of the dewatering

contractor. The dewatering operation will also depend

on the type of job you have and the equipment

to be used.

At construction sites, mining and quarrying sites, it isimportant that work goes on without any

environmental hindrances, but rainfall cannot be avoided at

times. When rain pours on excavations or if

water gets inside the mine, it would be really hard to remove

the water, and this cannot be done quickly

through manual means. How could miners get inside the

mine? How can workers fill the excavation with

cement if there is water? They will need to perform

dewatering of the water-filled areas.

Dewatering is not limited to pumping water out ofconstruction excavations, mines and quarries. It can

also be applied as a pre-construction method. Any soil types

can contain water and if workers work in

excavations dug out of wet soil, this can spell disasters

(landslide) as the soil holding water are weak and

it is not good to build foundation and structures upon wet

soil. For this, the water in the ground should

be removed first before workers can dig any amount of soil.

Dewatering is not only limited to removing water and otherconstruction purposes, mining and

quarrying purposes. In case of chemical spill on the ground, we

can perform this process to remove

the chemicals and clean the soil. In treating and disposing

waste water, dewatering can help separate

sediments, metals and other unwanted particles from the water.

We can then use the waterconstruction and mining purposes or if not, dispose it safely to
