INTRODUCTION

Corporation Falconbridge Copper began exploration in the Winston

Lake area in 1978. The zinc-rich Winston Lake massive sulphide deposit

was discovered in mid-1982 and has been delineated by underground

diamond drilling during 1985. Including 2070 dilution, the mineral

inventory of this deposit is estimated at 3,100,000 tonnes of 170 Cu,

16.07o Zn, 30.0 g/t Ag and 1.0 g/t Au.

Another promising high-grade zinc occurrence, the Pick Lake deposit,

located approximately 1.9 km southwest of the Winston Lake shaft, was

discovered by surface diamond drilling in late 1984. The Pick Lake

deposit, which occurs as an extensive narrow sheet of zinc-rich massive

sulphides, has been tested by drill holes on 200m centres. This report

summarizes the results of diamond drilling completed during the autumn

of 1985 which investigated the possibility of thicker zones of economic

interest within the Pick Lake deposit.

LOCATION AND ACCESS

The Winston Lake area is located in northwestern Ontario approxi

mately 145km northeast of Thunder Bay. A 20km gravel road links the

property with the Trans-Canada highway at a point about 9km west of

Schreiber, a town of approximately 2,000 people,

PROPERTY AND OWNERSHIP

The Winston Lake property consists of 253 claims wholly-owned by the

Corporation and 32 claims that were optioned from Zenmac Zinc Ltd.

(formerly Zenmac Exploration Ltd.). The Corporation has exercised this

option. Upon a production decision, Zenmac is entitled to elect either

a 207o participating interest or a royalty of 1070 net proceeds of

production. The Winston Lake deposit occurs on claims subject to the

above-noted royalty or interest.

The Pick Lake massive sulphide prospect occurs on claims wholly-

owned by the Corporation.

Page 5: DIAMOND DRILLING REPORT PICK LAKE PROJECT SCHREIBER …

HISTORY

Exploration in the area began in the late 1800's when the Zenith

zinc deposit was discovered. This deposit was mined by Zenmac Metal

Mines Ltd. during the period 1966-1970 producing 180,000 tons of ore

grading 16.570 zinc.

The Corporation acquired the property during 1978-80. Geological,

geochemical and geophysical surveys were completed and culminated in

discovery of the Winston Lake massive sulphide deposit in June of 1982.

Extensive surface drilling outlined the deposit. Results were suf

ficiently encouraging to commence a program of underground evaluation in

early 1984. The underground exploration program was completed by June

1985. On September 23, 1985 the Company announced its intention to

bring the Winston Lake mine into production as a substantial zinc

producer at an estimated capital cost of $52.5 million. Unfortunately,

on November l, 1985, the Corporatioon was forced, by economic and

political events beyond its control, to announce a suspension of the

Winston Lake development. The decision was made because of sharply

deteriorating zinc prices, combined with higher smelter charges.

During this period, surface exploration continued elsewhere in the

project area. The Pick Lake zone was intersected by diamond drilling in

late 1984.

GEOLOGY AND MINERALIZATION

The Winston Lake property is located near the west end of the Big

Duck Lake greenstone belt, an east-west trending sequence of Precambrian

metavolcanics and metasediments.

The Winston Lake massive sulphide deposit occurs at the top of

felsic volcanics overlain by a series of mafic flows. The contact

between these two sequences has been intruded by a complex gabbro sill

which forms the hanging wall for the massive sulphide deposit.

Page 6: DIAMOND DRILLING REPORT PICK LAKE PROJECT SCHREIBER …

The Pick Lake massive sulphide occurrence, an extensive but, to

date, narrow sheet of zinc-rich massive sulphides tested by drill holes

on 200m centres, occurs within volcaniclastic rocks towards the base of

the Winston Lake stratigraphy. The best intersection assays 1.497,. Cu

and 21.957o Zn over 1.5 metres. The deposit has a strike length of

300-400 metres and is open down-dip.

RESULTS OF DIAMOND DRILLING - SEPT. TO DEC. 1985

Five diamond drill holes (3118 metres) were completed to investigate

the possibility that thicker areas of economic interest could exist

within the narrow masive sulphide sheet. The results, which are

summarized below and included on the appended sections, were generally

disappointing.
