Thank you everyone for the support and commitment to creang this here at Dianella Primary College. I have really enjoyed being back at school this term and this is largely due to the people and families around me. It gave me great pleasure handing out so many awards yesterday at assembly. Our NAPLAN results have improved across the board and we are above “Like Schools” in all areas. The Numeracy Awards for achieving targets set in basic operaon tests resulted in 70% of students reaching targets and some fantasc individual improvements. Last Friday we had eighteen teachers and principals walk through our junior primary classes to look at the intenonal play based learning and the feedback was overwhelmingly posive. There are great things happening here every day. Bullying used to be something you could see or hear: face-to-face physical and verbal behaviour in the playground, classroom and on the way to and from school. Now, online technology and constant connecvity means children can be bullied through oſten anonymous contact or acons, anyme, anywhere, and oſten out of sight of adult eyes. Dear Parents / Care Givers

Great education is a combination of a supporting environment, dedicated teachers and students who take joy in learning. Thank you everyone for the support and commitment to creating this here at Dianella Primary College. I have really enjoyed being back at school this term and this is largely due to the people and families around me. It gave me great pleasure handing out so many awards yesterday at assembly. Our NAPLAN results have improved across the board and we are above “Like Schools” in all areas. The Numeracy Awards for achieving targets set in basic operation tests resulted in 70% of students reaching targets and some fantastic individual improvements. Last Friday we had eighteen teachers and principals walk through our junior primary classes to look at the intentional play based learning and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. There are great things happening here every day.

Bullying used to be something you could see or hear: face-to-face physical and verbal behaviour in the playground, classroom and on the way to and from school. Now, online technology and constant connectivity means children can be bullied through often anonymous contact or actions, anytime, anywhere, and often out of sight of adult eyes.

Cyber-bullying commonly occurs through: comments posted in an open online environment, for example on YouTube direct text, email or instant messages online or on a mobile phone. private features on a social networking services such as Snapchat and Facebook Messenger.

Friends and family can play an important role in helping reduce the spread and impact of cyber-bullying because perpetrators may back down when they see that their target has support. Here are some simple steps you can encourage your child to take if they see or know that a friend is being cyber-bullied.

Don’t forward messages or pictures. Though they may not have started it, they will become a part of the cyber-bullying cycle. Stand up and speak out against cyber-bullying. If your child is confident, encourage them to tell the perpetrator that their comments or actions are hurtful and that they should stop. Talk to someone they trust like parents or a teacher. Support your child’s friend by reporting the cyber-bullying. Most websites have online safety centres and reporting facilities, and online abuse is in violation of the Terms Of Use of most social networking sites.

Thank you to all the parents who called in when their child was ill and would be absent from school this term and the parents who go through back packs for notes and messages sent home. It was a very busy term and this really helps.

Lastly but very importantly it has been an honour to be Principal of this school and I look forward to working with you in the future.

Reading Egg During week 8 and 9, Room 12 took care of a special READING EGG. The EGG is a part of the Paint the Town REaD community initiative program that encourages children to talk, play, sing, yarn, read and rhyme from an early age. The Year One students in Room 12 have been very persistent to include the EGG in our daily literacy activities, and even included the EGG in Outdoor Learning Day! Eventually the EGG will hatch, and a community Reading Mascot will emerge. The students have all predicted what they think the Reading Mascot will look like. We have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a community initiative and look forward to meeting the Reading Mascot, that we have helped to grow! Miss Reside

1:2:1 Mentor Program On Tuesday 19th September, Room 17 were joined by the amazing mentors from TCS and Optus, in the library, to celebrate the final session of the 1:2:1 Numeracy Program for this term. The students and their mentors engage in many numeracy activities over the term. The Closing Ceremony began with some fun maths games followed by a warm exchange of certificates between the mentors and their students. After the certificates had been handed out, the mentors and students enjoyed a light morning tea. The students from Room 17 were amazing throughout the term and demonstrated responsibility and respect throughout the course of the program. I am very proud of them all. Well done, Room 17. A special thanks to the staff from TCS and Optus for offering their time to help support our school.

BRING HOME A BIG BROTHER OR SISTER AND BRING FRENCH,

ITALIAN OR SPANISH CULTURE TO LIFE!

Why not volunteer to host an international student from France, Italy or Spain next year? We have a small group of delightful students coming to Australia for 11 weeks to immerse in local

Australian culture, experience our High schools, sports, environment and lifestyle. All these

international students are around 15 or 16 years old, speak excellent English, have their own spending money, cover all school expenses, and we arrange all aspects of their program. They

are looking forward to joining an Australian family for a short term cultural immersion stay.

It’s fun and interesting to help these young people achieve their Australian dream. If you would like to know more, please email your interest to ICM on [email protected] or call

Georgie or Anja on 1800 500 501, or visit our website www.icm-education.com.
