SEVEN

SEVEN expands our vision, opening up new perspectives on the origins of existence. Drawing from ancient myths of creation, seven poetic fragments served as the source of inspiration for the music of Hansjörg Fink and Elmar Lehnen. This was followed by an in-depth involvement with the questions that hover unseen behind all traditional images – questions of both universal and individual origins. But above all, one learned to search, to grope after the matters that touch us essentially, that envelop and sustain us. The result was a musical and poetic plea to love the question more than the answer.

HANSJÖRG FINK

Born in 1969 in Aalen, Hansjörg Fink enjoyed a well-founded music edu-cation from an early age in classical trombone, lead and jazz trombone, harmony, arrangement and composition, introducing him to diverse music styles. He joined the German army music corps in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt as trombonist and was a member of the German Federal Jazz Orchestra under Peter Herbolzheimer.

He studied music in the Netherlands at the Amsterdam School of the Arts in Hilversum, where he studied jazz and popular music with Bart and Erik van Lier and classical trombone with Ben van Dijk.

Hansjörg Fink has been first trombone of the World Famous Glenn Miller Orches tra since 1996, touring regularly. In addition to that, he is a freelance musician. For concerts and CD recordings as well as radio and television recordings he regu larly appears with renowned European big bands, including the WDR Big Band, the SWR Big Band, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Paul Kuhn Big Band. He has toured to over seventy countries and appeared in cities of all continents – from Paris, Monte Carlo and Moscow to New York, Cape Town, Bombay, Tokyo and Dubai.

As lead player, ensemble player and soloist, Hansjörg Fink is connected to the most diverse music styles and feels equally at home in big bands, theatre and musical productions, pop bands and the great jazz festivals as he does in symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles and solo projects. Hansjörg Fink can be listened on more than 70 CDs including own produc-tions.

From 2011 to 2015 Hansjörg Fink was a teacher at the Hochschule für Musik in Weimar for jazz trombone and ensemble conducting as well as leading the Jazz Orchestra of the Hochschule. As lecturer in big band and trombone he regularly accepts invitations to jazz workshops throughout Europe.

ELMAR LEHNEN

Elmar Lehnen has served since 2000 as Basi lica Organist at the Pontifical Basilica in Keve laer, which attracts more than 800.000 pil grims each year. It houses the Seifert Organ, one of the most important organs interna-tionally. Liturgical improvisation forms the focus of his sacred music work. Lehnen is strongly committed to the restoration of the Basilica’s large organ to its original historical state.

As a choral director he regularly performs such major works as Bee-thoven’s Missa Solemnis, the Verdi and Mozart Requiems, and Bach’s Mass in B minor. In addition, he is artistic director of the organ concert series in Keve laer. For the 375th anni versary of the pilgrimage in Keve laer in 2017, he composed the large-scale sacred work Mensch Maria for large orches tra, choir, and vocal soloists to a libretto by Dr. Bastian Rütten, also premiering it as music director.

Solo performances in Germany and abroad have taken Lehnen through-out Germany as well as to Finland, Poland, Italy, France, Russian, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, and the Switzerland. In 2018 he performed as a soloist with orchestra in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and accepted an invitation as instructor of a master class at the Gnessin University.

He has collaborated closely with trombonist Hansjörg Fink, performing together with him in many concerts throughout the world and composing works for the duo. Concerts with the International Brass ensemble and the consonanz à 4 vocal ensemble round out his concert career. His musical activity is featured in television, radio, and CD productions.

Lehnen studied in Aachen and Paris, where he earned his concert ex-amination diploma with honours. Immediately after completing his stud-ies, he was named Cantor in Mönchengladbach-Windberg. From 1991 to 2000 he was artistic director of the Windberger Geistlichen Kon zerte. In 1998 he founded the annual Orgel und Erholung organ master class in Bad Rippoldsau.
