Planning Policy & Regulation• Need to define Offshore - including the different concepts
that define the conditions for offshore aquaculture• Need to improve the knowledge gap – obtain more baseline
data from offshore regions• An integrated approach to CZM is necessary – with
interactions between the different stakeholders• Current industry management initiatives (eg SBM, AMA’)
are just as important in the offshore context, particularly in developing environmental codes of practice
• Should be initiative from administration to apply some minimum level of insurance for the industry going offshore

Technology
• Better communication between cage manufacturer and net manufacturer
• Farmers are fed up being used as test sites and its time we had publicly funded test sites
• Communication systems critical to understand what is going on at all times
• Mortality management – big issue with larger cages
• Harvesting is big concern – access issues

Biological considerations• What is the definition – energy, distance, open ocean• Huge emphasis on monitoring both baseline and
continuous• Bio-availability and polyculture possibilities• Food sources and sustainability issues• Better knowledge of the species – will they survive out
there• Health and safety issues• Disaster management and risk assessment• Remote sensing eg, biomass monitoring• Biological impacts – acceptible levels, sustainability
