Distillation Operation and Troubleshooting

Course Duration : 5 Days Training

Daily Schedule : 7:30am - 3:30pm

Training Date : Upon Request

Training Venue : Doha

Traning Fees : TBI

Course Outl ines

• Introduction and course objectives • Atmospheric and vacuum distillation theory • Types of distillation column • Distillation column configuration and internals • Column design considerations • Re-boilers • Condensers• Reflux drums • Main fractionators • Strippers • Gas plant distillation units • Control parameters / Control system optimization

To provide a broader understanding of the operational behavior of industrial Distillation columns and of optimization strate-gies. Know the essential parameters and profiles to analyze qualitatively the Operation of a continuous distillation column.

Have got the concept necessary to optimize the operation of a column, know the performances and limits of the different control systems. Have an increased knowledge of the potential origins of the troubles and of the means how to detect it.

• Material balance of the virtual column: cut point, separation quality and Separating power Concept.• Column pressure: pressure control and pressure profile along the column.• Heat balance. Reflux and reboiling ratio and selectivity evaluation.• Flow rates, concentration and temperature profiles. Concentration peaks.• Position of feedstock inlet related to feed characteristics.• Liquid-vapor flow rates, reflux and reboiling ratio• Number of theoretical stages and internal equipment efficiency.• Position of feedstock inlet related to feed characteristics.

Who Should Attend

QTPC - AN ISO 9001:2008 Regd.

• Refinery operations personnel

• Refinery process Engineers

• Other personnel outside the company's refineries who wish to improve their knowledge of distillation operations

He has more than 30 years of extensive field experience oil & gas, petrochemical and other process plants, and mainly in project management, design, selection, specification, installation, maintenance, operation, plant optimization and trouble-shooting of oil, water and gas handling facilities in the oil and gas industry.

Throughout his professional career he have served for several oil & gas companies such as;

• Process Engineer at El-Nasr Petroleum Company, Alexandria, Egypt.

• Senior Technical Instructor at Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia.

• Technical Instructor (On-Job-Training) at Saudi Arabian marketing and Refining (SAMARC), Jeddah - Saudi Arabia.

• Process Advisor at Al-Furat Petroleum Company (AFPC), Shell Join Venture (Subcontractor: IHRDC), Syria.

• Production Trainer (On-Job-Training) at Abu Dhabi Marine Operating company (ADMA – OPCO, Subcontractor: IHRDC),

United Arab of Emirates.

• Commissioning (Process) Engineer at Middle East Oil Refinery (MEDOR, Subcontractor: TECNIP International), Egypt.

• Production Advisor at Al-Furat Petroleum Company (AFPC) Shell Join Venture (Subcontractor: TriStar Meddle East), Syria.

• To provide an appreciation of the fundamentals of distillation technology

• To examine the different types of distillation and column internals

• To review distillation's role in the oil and gas sector

• To consider auxiliary equipment requirements

• To discuss distillation column operation and control

• To examine troubleshooting techniques

Engr. Maurice Michel Hanna, graduated with Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Refining Engineering from Suez Canal University, Egypt and Master Degree in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical Industry from Petroleum Institute of Romania, and he is a Certified Saudi Aramco Training Specialist.
