Since the UCS-C210 hardware has been EOS/EOL, are there any Cisco servers that are certified and tested with the 5.4 VM? A. We have tested the DMM 5.4 VM software on UCS-C240 (M3) servers (2 RU) and found the results to have met or exceeded the operations of a host with the specs as listed in Table 1 above. Therefore the UCS-C240 (M3) is a viable candidate server system to host the DMM virtual machine. Q. Are there any new features introduced in this virtual machine release of the 5.4 DMM software? A. No. The software and feature set is identical between the virtual machine and appliance release of the 5.4 software. For a list of the new features, please consult the Cisco Digital Signs 5.4 datasheet

Cisco Digital Media Manager 5.4 VM This document is a combined ordering guide/FAQ for the DMM 5.4 virtual machine release.

Q. Why has the DMM been released on a virtual machine?

A. This release is a follow-up to the external EOS/EOL announcement of the DMM UCS C210 appliance server which was posted on October 5th (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/video/ps9339/ps6681/eol_C51-717513.html). New DMS customer opportunities should now be presented with the DMM VM option as the primary method of deployment (also includes high-availability/failover).

Q. What are the specifications and requirements needed to host the 5.4 VM?

A. Minimum specifications and licensing requirements are in tables 1 and 2 below.

Q. Are there any bugs or fixes incorporated into this virtual machine release of the 5.4 DMM software?

A. No. There have been no new fixes or updates included with this virtual machine release. For a list of all known problems (caveats) as well as problems resolved in the 5.4 release, please consult the Release Notes for Cisco DMS 5.4.x (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/5_x/5_4/dms/release/notes/dms54rn.html).

Q. I have a brand new customer: what are the part numbers to order the DMM 5.4 VM?

A. The correct base part number to use for a new DMM customer is: R-DMMVM-BASE-54-K9. All optional modules (SNMP, Digital Media Designer, Cisco Cast, Proof of Play) comes automatically bundled and do not need to be ordered separately except for High Availability (see below for failover scenario). However, do not forget to order the necessary DMP licenses (i.e. DMP-FL-10= for a 10 pack of DMP licenses for the DMM). Once purchased, the DMM 5.4 virtual machine software can be redeemed via eDelivery (https://edelivery.cisco.com/esd/home.do?view).

Q. I have an existing DMM customer running a 5.2.x or 5.3.x release and would like to migrate to DMM 5.4 VM. What is the correct procedure to upgrade?

A. The first thing to be aware of is the requirement that in order to migrate to the DMM virtual machine release, you must have your existing system already upgraded to 5.4. The reason behind that prerequisite is because the migration process (from appliance to virtual machine) uses the standard backup & restore process – which can only be performed between two systems that are running identical software releases. Upgrades to 5.3 are available free of charge from Cisco.com. In order to upgrade from 5.3 to 5.4, customers that have a valid SAS contract on their DMM can redeem the upgrade by utilizing Product Upgrade Tool (http://tools.cisco.com/gct/Upgrade/jsp/productUpgrade.jsp). Customers without a service contract must order the upgrade (R-DMM-BASE-54-U-K9) and redeem it via eDelivery (https://edelivery.cisco.com/esd/home.do?view). Once they are running the 5.4 release, they will be ready to proceed with ordering the virtual machine upgrade.

Q. I have an existing DMM customer that is already running version 5.4 and would like to migrate to DMM 5.4 VM. What is the correct procedure to upgrade?

A. Customers who choose to migrate from an appliance to virtual machine instance of 5.4 may do so by ordering: R-DMMVM-MIGR54-K9. This will entitle them to download the DMM 5.4 virtual machine software, which can be redeemed via eDelivery (https://edelivery.cisco.com/esd/home.do?view). A new license will also have to be requested for the virtual machine instance of the DMM, which can be done by contacting [email protected].

Q. I have a new customer who wants to run high availability (failover) with their virtual machine deployment of the DMM. What are the part numbers to order?

A. In addition to R-DMMVM-BASE-54-K9, the following part number will also have to be ordered: R-DMMVM-FASW-54-K9. Remember that these are the base level part numbers and

that DMP licenses must still be purchased (i.e. DMP-FL-10= for a 10 pack of DMP licenses for the DMM).

Q. Can I have a mixture of an appliance DMM and a virtual machine DMM running in high availability/failover?

A. No. This is not a supported deployment model. A high availability/failover deployment must be either appliance-with-appliance or VM-with-VM.

Q. I am a Cisco reseller (partner) that has been certified for DMS. Are there any NFR (not-for-resale) options available for this DMM virtual machine release?

A. No. At this time there are no plans to release a NFR option for the DMM virtual machine software.

Q. I have a customer that is currently running Digital Signs as well as Show and Share. Can I purchase the DMM 5.4 VM and pair it with a Show and Share appliance?

A. No. The Digital Media Manager virtual machine software is only available in version 5.4. The DMM 5.4 release does not have any support for Show and Share – thus it is not compatible with any Show and Share appliances.

Q. I am a Cisco employee and would like to download the DMM VM software to install for a demo or proof-of-concept. Where can I get the software and license?

A. Please send an e-mail to the general DMS community at [email protected] and someone will provide instructions and direct you to the download location.
