• Stalin wants allies to open front in west to relieve pressure in the east• 2 fronts = fighting in 2 regions

• Plan = weaken Germany on 2 fronts death blow• Start attack in N Africa angers Stalin-wanted

France• General “Monty” beats “desert fox” retreat• Operation Torch lead by Eisenhower

the name Battle of the Bulge• Allies eventually win Hitler’s losses

lead him to only be able to retreat from that point on

surrender from the Third Reich• V-E Day = victory in Europe Day
