Volume 1, Issue 1 October 2018
We live in a world where we are constantly comparing ourselves to others. However, it?s often a negative comparison that we make. So, I took it upon myself, with the help of the other ?Newsies?, to make some positive comparisons about people here at Newton and famous movie/TV characters that we know
and love. I found there were more than a few doppelg?ngers here at Newton! A doppelg?nger is two people who look like identical twins, but actually have no relation to each other. Here are 3 people from our
Tribe & their doppelg?ngers! Be on the lookout for more to come in the next edition of "The Smoke Signal".

Hey there, Newton! Twitter has more than 336 million monthly active users,
Instagram now has 800 million users, and has gained 100 million since April. Only 169 million American adults have read a newspaper within the last month.
We?re looking to add to that number! It?s been over ten years since we?ve had a school newspaper. We?re excited to announce... we?re bringing it back! We plan on picking up right where we left off
ten years ago. So, ?The Smoke Signal?, it is. We will release issues quarterly and keep you up to date throughout the 2018-2019 school year. The newspaper will include interviews from teachers,
local meal deals, and everything in between. Our goal for the newspaper is to reach our generation through the old-fashioned printed word, while including entertaining reads for you!

- Mr. Davis~Chester V (from Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2)
- There are really no words needed to explain how much they look alike. I mean, they are literally the definition of a
doppelg?nger. You would think the maker of Chester V looked at a picture of Mr. Davis as inspiration!
- Miss Meyer-Miranda Bailey (from Grey?s Anatomy)- Other than the fact that they are both short, the looks
aren't quite as uncanny as Mr. Davis and Chester V. However, their personalities are scary similar. They both have authority over their students/interns and they both come across as very strict. However, once you get to know them you realize they are like that because they genuinely want their ?minions? to succeed!
- Ally Weaver-Rory (from Gilmore Girls)- From their lovable personalities to their identical looks,
Ally and Rory, from Gilmore Girls, are obvious look-alikes. Their eyes, smile, face shape, and thick brown hair are almost exactly the same, making them a
perfect example of a doppelg?nger.

Fall FairBy the time you are reading this, all the festivities will be over. However, the newsies couldn't resist previewing our favorite time of the year. The temperature is dropping, fall sports are in full swing, and the leaves are getting ready to change colors. It?s officially that time of year, which can only mean one thing? Fall Fair. Fall Fair is a time of cotton candy, pumpkin bowling, winning more fish than your parents want, and laughing our way through class challenge. It is a day full of festivities bringing our school and community together. Believe it or not Fall Fair has been going on since November 24, 1930. I remember the sixth-grade excitement of holding baby pigs, playing the ring toss game with my friends to win a 2-liter pop that we would all drink from, and watching the ?cool? upperclassmen embarrass themselves in front of a whole gym of people. Speaking of embarrassing yourself in front of a whole gym of people, who do you think will be kissing the pig this year? Will it be King Kline? Or are we thinking the new teacher, Ms. Ulmer, or perhaps Mr. Borchers? I guess we will see soon. Next prediction is probably the most important? which class will come on top during class challenge? Will the sophomores regain their winning title, once again? Or will the seniors give it their all on the last go around? Your guess is as good as mine!
The golf team had a very successful and record-setting year. As the fall sports season winds down, let 's take a look at the
records that were broken throughout the season. The golf team managed to win all t he regular season m at ches and f in ished
2nd in t he conference. The records that were shattered were:
Lowest 9-hole score with 151 (previous was 153)
Regular season 9- hole average 167.75 (previously 169.31)
Chet Jamison shot lowest individual score of 31 (previously 32)
Chet Jamison broke the individual record for lowest 9-hole average in school history with 36.92.
The Golf team also won Dist r ict s for the first time in Newton Boy's Golf history! Way to go boys!

A HUGE shout-out to ALL of the hidden superheroes we have that keep our school running. We want to thank all of the janitors for all the hard
work they put in behind the scenes.
They truly are our superheros!
They clean anything that crazy high-schoolers send their way, making them a superhero in disguise. You know what they say, "Not all
Superheroes wear Capes," and that is very true for our janitors at Newton. Instead, you may find them with a mop in hand.
So, next time you see a janitor, say thank you for all the work they do for keeping our school clean and thriving.
