TARGET LISTS TO HELP “CLOSE THE GAP” TO YOUR CMA GOAL

In the last CMA Newsletter, we recommended that those pastorates that still need to “close the gap” should reach out to their pastorate’s parishioners who had pledged to Fruitful Harvest 2018 but have not pledged yet to the Catholic Ministries Appeal.

• There are still over 5,400 parishioners who gave to FH-18, but not to CMA.

• Of these parishioners, over 1,500 parishioners pledged at least $1,000 to FH-18 and $0 to CMA.

• These pledges totaled to about $4.5M.

This data is available for you in your Raiser’s Edge Dashboard.

• All pastorates should now have access to their Raiser’s Edge Dashboard.

If you need help pulling together a list of your pastorate’s parishioners that pledged to FH-18, but not to CMA, please contact Mike MacNulty.

BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENT SUGGESTIONS

Bulletin Announcement idea #1:

Only __% left! … Please help our pastorate fulfill our goal for the Catholic Ministries Appeal.

The Catholic Ministries Appeal is the new name for the appeal that used to be called Fruitful Harvest, and it also includes the fundraising campaign that was previously known as the Seminarian Fund Appeal. The Catholic Ministries Appeal runs through December 31, 2021.

Thank you so much for getting us to over __% of the way to our pastorate goal of $_______. We need additional pledges of $______ to get up to 100%, and anything that goes over our goal will help other pastorates in our diocese.

The donations to the Catholic Ministries Appeal directly fund the Diocesan Supported Ministries and the many ministries that the diocese provides directly to our local pastorate. For <name of your church(es)>, this includes <choose from these or add your own: Hispanic ministry, prison ministry, support of our clergy, support of our local seminarian, planning enhancements or maintenance for our church, sacramental formation and train our staff>.

This appeal also replaces the annual Seminarian Fund Appeal, so this is your opportunity to support the educational and living costs, and student debt for our 10 seminarians, as well as supporting the Office of Vocations in the effort to increase religious vocations across our diocese.

Thank you for your generous response to meet the needs of our local pastorate, as well as the many ministries of the diocese. Your gift matters! Go to https://dol-in.org/cma to pledge your gift today.

Bulletin Announcement idea #2:

There is still time to contribute!

Bulletin Announcement idea #3:

Only __% left! … Please help our pastorate fulfill our goal for the Catholic Ministries Appeal.

The Catholic Ministries Appeal is replacing the Fruitful Harvest Appeal and the Seminarian Fund Appeal. It will run through December 31, 2021.

The reason for the change is to focus on the many ministries that are supported through this appeal and to increase the transparency of how the funds raised from this appeal are utilized to support the works of Christ directly through the diocese, as well as through the ministries that support each of our local parishes.

Here are the lists of the Diocesan Supported Ministries and Ministries to Parishes that are funded through the Catholic Ministries Appeal:

Bulletin Announcement idea #4:

The annual Seminarian Fund Appeal has been replaced by the Catholic Ministries Appeal.

For at least the last 15 years, there has been a Seminarian Fund Appeal in the summer months. In order to simplify and reduce the number of fundraising campaigns coming from the diocese, the current Catholic Ministries Appeal has replaced BOTH the Seminarian Fund Appeal as well as Fruitful Harvest.

The Seminarian Fund Appeal used to be your chance to support seminarian education and living costs, which are typically $400,000 to $500,000 per year.

Gifts to the Catholic Ministries Appeal are your way to help support our Seminarians now!

Your gift matters! Go to https://dol-in.org/cma to pledge your gift today.

PASTOR LETTER SUGGESTION

<DATE>

<ADDRESSEE>

<ADDRESS>

<CITY>, <STATE> <ZIP>

Dear <NAME>,

I am SO GRATEFUL for you!

You make our Church possible, and our Church is needed now more than ever! Even when the world around us seems to get crazier and crazier with each passing day, the Word of God never changes, and His Word tells us to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, our soul, our mind and our strength, and to love our neighbor.

You make this happen here at <PARISH OR PASTOARATE>. Your prayers and sacrifices are brought together and offered to God every day! Your talents and good works change lives. Sometimes in quiet, unseen ways, but other times in very visible ways. All of this is needed! All of you are needed!

Your support of the Catholic Ministries Appeal is also needed. In one way or another, all of the gifts given to the CMA are helping to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and helping to foster deeper personal commitments to follow Him in His Church. Your financial sacrifices are enabling:

Formation, education and support of our 10 seminarians Programs to help nurture the discernment of more young men to give their lives to

God, to His Church and to you Retirement for our aging clergy members Solid, Catholic education for our Catholic school children and Parish Religious

Education students

College Campus Ministry/Newman Center programs and retreats at Ball State, Purdue and Wabash College

Formation and training for our permanent deacons during their 5-year discernment Funds for the many local pro-life centers annually supported by the Office of Family

Life Education and training for our pastorate and school staffs

I think you get my point that all of us here at <PARISH OR PASTOARATE> are significantly and positively impacted by the generosity of all our fellow parishioners who have contributed to the Catholic Ministries Appeal!

As your pastor, I only ask that you to commit to some heartfelt prayer time to discern if you are in a position to pledge a gift to our pastorate’s CMA goal, or to add to your existing pledge.

While we all continue to pray for more and more normalcy in our lives, I want you to know that I am here for you and that <PARISH OR PASTOARATE> is hard at work preparing for that time. We’ve all learned not to take anything for granted!

I hope you know that I never take you for granted either. Your support of our pastorate means the world to me, and I appreciate all that you do.

You and your family are in my prayers, and I ask that you pray for me and our pastorate as well.

Gratefully in Christ,

CMA OVERAGE FUND

Even if your parish or pastorate is over goal, you can still help other parishes/pastorates close their gap!

• Any gifts received over your pastorate’s CMA goal will go into a CMA Overage Fund to help your brother pastors close the gap of their own pastorate’s CMA Goal.

• At the end of the campaign, any money in this fund will be spread across all pastorates that still have a shortfall against their CMA goal.

• If there are any funds still available after that, the CMA Overage Fund will be used to support needy parishioners or parishes.

CMA GOALS FOR PASTORATES WITH MULTIPLE PARISHES

For pastorates that have multiple parishes, the pastorate goal for the Catholic Ministries Appeal is the sum of the individual parish goals. (For pastorates made up of a single parish, the parish CMA goal is the pastorate goal)

• One parish in the pastorate may be over and another under, but the total across all of the parishes within the pastorate will be compared to the total goal across those parishes.

It’s up to the pastor and finance councils to determine how to support any shortfall:

• Parishes within the pastorate can give help or receive help from other parishes in the pastorate as long as the pastorate in total meets or exceeds its goal.

Suggested best practice: • Talk about and promote your progress to your CMA goal

only at the pastorate-level, as opposed to talking about an individual parish’s CMA goal:
