FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Submitted by: Minister Torie Davis-Forte Ministerial Liaison, Pearls of Praise/ Chairperson, Womanhood Committee

As we look back over the month of April, we stand in awe of the great things that the Almighty God has shared with His daughters (and sons ☺). We give thanks to the great Shepherd of First Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor Fredrick A. Davis, and to everyone for their service during Womanhood Month 2018. It has been a month filled with events that have challenged the women of God to be better disciples of Jesus Christ as we journey through the process of “Transforming Discipleship: Changed into God’s Glorious Image” (2 Corinthians 3:18). We are people in life-long process. The good news about the process is --- transformation and change is possible because scripture reminds us that as believers in Jesus Christ the veil has been removed, and we can now see and reflect the glory of the Lord! The good news about the process is --- we who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus are being transformed from our old way of life into a new way of life! The good news about the process is --- the end result is that we will be completely conformed to the image of Jesus Christ!

On Friday, April 6th, we had an awesome time in fellowship as we kicked-off Womanhood Month with “What Are You Looking At”. It was a blessed time in the Lord to see women of ALL AGES enjoy one another while having meaningful conversation about how we see ourselves, how we see our sisters in Christ, and who we really are in the eyes of God. Beloved, when we learn to get God’s view of us and His truth about us, then everything begins to change! This change starts on the inside of us in our hearts, because God, through the Holy Spirit, works from the internal to the external. The evening ended with testimonies of God’s grace and mercy – Did you give a testimony? If not, don’t be afraid --- remember iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17)! Following the rhythm of the Holy Spirit, on Saturday, April 14th, we held our Wordshop entitled “W.E.B. – Women Escaping Boundaries”! Two powerful sessions were led by First Calvary’s very own, Minister Lynnette Gregory and Minister LaDawn Sanders. They each charged us to believe what the Word of God says about us, to remember the promises that God has made to us, and to not let our past define us! The day concluded again with more testimonies of God’s grace and mercy – Did you give a testimony? If not, don’t be afraid --- remember we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11)! Our testimonies help us to share our spiritual transformation experiences and reach out to others!

God continued to show us His glory by using dynamic women of God to proclaim His Word boldly for our two-night Revival and Hour of Power. This morning we have the great pleasure of hearing from the esteemed Mrs. Judith Hayes Davis. Ladies (and Gents ☺) let’s bless the name of the Lord together as He has made us partakers of the Word that shall come forth! Additionally, let’s keep the excitement going as we wrap up Womanhood Month with our spiritual retreat at Jordan Lake --- it’s not too late to sign up in the vestibule or online! It is my sincere prayer that April 2018 will be a commencement to something greater as we continue to seek ways to personally grow on our Christian journey. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide and empower you as you go through the life-long process of “Transforming Discipleship: Changed into God’s Glorious Image”!

THE DEACON’S MESSAGE

Everyone wants to be more than a face in the crowd. Doing so requires traits that become more natural when spiritual apathy is not present. Anyone known for excellence, distinction and unwavering character is also known for their hard work. Their positive moments of distinction are created when preparation meets opportunity. The preparation of our spiritual envelope defines how we respond to unexpected moments requiring the displaying of character. In Proverbs 31:25-26, NLT we find a woman of distinction. We know this because the writer speaks highly of her. “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness.” You never know when your character will have the opportunity to show who you really are. After the moment has come and gone, how will you be described? Will you be remembered for displaying the heart of God or will you be just another face in the crowd?
