Letter from the PresidentDear Neighbors, We want to remind everyone to join us on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. by the marquee in the front park for our Annual 4th of July Parade. We decided after talking with neighbors that many folks would likely be out of town for that long weekend and the fact that the 4th falls on a Sunday we should make a change. We will have police and sheriff’s department escort, as well as patriotic music playing as we parade through the neighborhood. We hope all the neighborhood children will decorate themselves and their bikes, trikes, wagons, strollers and critters and join along. Once we get to the end of the parade route, please everyone who participated or followed our progress along the route, come join us in the back park at the end of Silk Oak Drive just past Silkgrass Bend, for sausage wraps, juice, coffee and water. There will be a special drawing for a gift certificate to the Brodie Park Market, with dues PAID members only eligible. Again, if you have an interest in working with one of the various committees or joining the board, please contact one of the board members in person, via email or via a note in the mailbox. We need your ideas and enthusiasm ! Everyone who is able, please send your $60 dues check in the mail or in the drop box on the marquee so we can continue with our maintenance of the neighborhood entrance and establish new projects for the upcoming months. Mark your calendars now to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day with your neighbors at Cherry Creek on Brodie.
Sincerely, Barbara Statum, for the Board

Oak Wilt Detected in Cherry Creek
Oak wilt, one of the most destructive tree diseases in the United States, is killing oak trees in central Texas at epidemic proportions . Oak wilt is an infectious disease caused by the fungus Ceratocystis fagacearum, which invades and disables the water-conducting system in susceptible trees. All oaks are susceptible but some more than others. Please look to the links below for great information. That will help to detect and explain how to treat this terrible blight. Note that it is not sufficient to simply remove the tree. The City Arborist responsible for the Oak Wilt Suppression Program is Chris Dolan (512) 974-1881 or [email protected].
WWW.texasoakwilt.org Within these pages you will find an array of oak wilt resources including everything from oak wilt biology to diagnosis, treatment, and management. Clicking the banner will return you to the Oak Wilt Information Partnership home.

Box Tops for Education Have you seen these in your kitchen and wondered what to do with them? Here is the answer. Clip them off the package and put them in the dropbox at the front entrance marquee! They will then be donated to our local schools to provide much needed money. Each box top is worth ten cents to a neighborhood school. It may not sound like much but if the whole neighborhood saves them, it could add up to big money. Here is a brief history of the Box Top$ program. 2005 - Box Tops has now helped our nation’s schools earn over $130 million and includes over 86,000 participating schools. For the first time ever, the program expands to include brands outside of General Mills. 2006 - 10 Years. Over $175 million donations. More than 95,000 Box Tops schools. Box Tops continues its tradition of making a difference for more schools... and more kids... year after year. Box Top$ are collected ALL YEAR LONG, so start clipping and keep clipping!

Most children are out of sight or missing for less than 5 minutes and usually in the presence of 1 or both parents.
NO ONE is “drown proof” – no matter their level of swimming ability.
Falls, entrapments, and injuries lead to drowning regardless of swimming level.
A majority of people overestimate their own and their child’s ability to swim, especially in a panic event.
