Homemaker Annual Meeting Sharing Our Talents
Club Guidelines The 2018 Fayette Co. Extension Homemakers Annual Meeting, May 24, will not only be festive but serve the greater purpose of support for our scholarship fund. Clubs and members can donate an individual service or group item. Sharing Our Talent Each club has at least one marketable service to offer. Hopefully larger clubs will offer more than one. An extra benefit is getting to know fellow homemakers that are not in your club through exchange of services. To participate, simply: - Select a service that you are willing to share or teach
another homemaker. - Complete the certificate on the last page of the
newsletter. - Return to the Extension Office by May 18th. - A list will be compiled of all certificates and presented
at the annual meeting before the auction begins. - Decide what service you would enjoy receiving. - Bid, bid, bid! - Highest bidder wins. - A shared talent certificate will be presented with
contact and scheduling information. Questions? Do not hesitate to call the Extension Office for clarification.

March in National Nutrition Month
Tips to Jumpstart Healthy Eating Habits
Deciding to kick bad eating habits to the curb can often seem overwhelming. Sometimes we just need to see it written simply to jumpstart a new routine. Try these tips to get back on track:
Eat breakfast. Eating something in the morning not only helps you focus it also will help you make better food choices the rest of the day since you won’t be as ravenous. Some ideas include plain Greek yogurt with a handful of berries, whole-grain toast with some avocado or even just a couple of hard boiled eggs and a handful of nuts. It doesn’t have to be big but something is better than nothing!
Drink less soda and more water. It will be a gradual process but starting to drink less soda and more water will help you feel fuller throughout the day and even sleep better at night. Start by replacing one soda a day with water and try to get down to as little soda as possible.
Have control of your meals. Bringing your own lunch and cooking your own dinner saves money and puts you in control of what is in your food. Buy ingredients that are simple and easy to assemble. For example, bake chicken and roast vegetables in the beginning of the week then add to greens for a quick healthy lunch or put over rice for dinner. Being prepared sets you up for success.
Keep MyPlate in mind. Aim to fill half of your plate with fruits and vegetables. When you sit down for a meal, see how it matches up to MyPlate. Source: Jean Najor, Senior Extension Associate, University of Kentucky; College of Agriculture, Food and Environment
Ear Buds and Exercise Wearing headphones while exercising outdoors can create multiple risks. Most of the sports headphones are now designed to fit right into the ear like an earplug to block out other noise. These ear buds are great for the gym but can be dangerous if you are exercising outside. Your ability to pay attention to potential threats from traffic, barking dogs, bike bells or other people is greatly reduced when you are listening to music through headphones. Wearing headphones outside also makes you a target to potential attackers because you are distracted and vulnerable. If you choose to wear headphones when you exercise outside, remember to keep the volume low enough so that you can hear what is going on around you.
