Gossip,
Rumors, &
Lies
Many, many years ago,
on July 1st, Ronald
Gene King was born. In
those “olden days”,
TVs were still in the
experimental stage, and
home entertainment
was provided by an
AM radio. Cars had
manual transmissions,
and air conditioning
was provided by win-
dows. Gas stations had
people to pump your
gas, air your tires, and
wash your windshield,
all for less than 25
cents per gallon.
As he grew older, Ron
graduated from high
school, joined the
Navy, enjoyed 2 luxuri-
ous cruises to Vietnam,
and still found time to
get married, and have 2
daughters. As the years

progressed, he managed de-
partment stores, and became a
sales executive with a citrus
products company.
(and no, he did not run an or-
ange juice stand in Reseda, re-
gardless of what Bill tries to
tell you.) It was during this
time in Reseda that he got the
nickname of “Juice” King.
In the summer of 1976, Bill
convinced Ron that they
should go into business to-
gether, running a paint store. It
seems that one slick paint ped-
dler had mentioned to Bill that
a wonderful store was for sale
in Santa Cruz. Anyway, Ron
and Bill met in Santa Cruz,
looked at the store, and after a
few drinks at the upscale Club
Zayante, made the deal. They
took over the store on Decem-
ber 10, 1976. Ron was imme-
diately made the “Paint
Mixer”. He thought that meant
he would tint paint, but Bill
said “NO, you mix the paint
with a 3/8” drill and mixer”.
Ron and Bill worked 7 days a
week, but Ron still had time to
have another daughter and a
son. That son is Tom, manager
of the Soquel store. Ron may
now be found at the Scotts
Valley store, fishing off Santa
Cruz, or golfing somewhere in
Northern California or Nevada.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RON!
