LYLA GIARDINIMy favorite thing about art is that you can be creative and use your imagination. You can express your feelings in art. This artwork relates to the “new normal,” while it also relates to the famous artist Piet Mondrian. It is even wearable!
Besides an artist, I am a member of the Student Activity Council, National Junior Honors Society, and play Basketball. I also like to read, dance, and practice the guitar.

My favorite thing about art is that you can create anything you want and it’s so fun and relaxing. The thing I like best about my artwork is that I created it and I tried my best even though I’m a perfectionist. I also love all the colors in it. I also play volleyball, basketball, track, and I dance.

I’ve personally been creating art since I was able to pick up a pencil, and even before that painting with my grandma. With my artwork, I
like to create awareness of mental health and normalize in art that
we don’t always have to paint, draw, (etc.) the happy feelings - it can be
emotions like anxiety, depression, and fear that many people face on a daily
basis including myself. My painting is meant to represent my struggles with anxiety.
My favorite hobbies are to paint, listen to music, play guitar, and play video games!
Included with my exhibition image is a self-portrait, it was a style choice to blur out the eyes.

I think my favorite thing about art is that you’re free to do anything you’d like. Art is very flexible, you aren’t limited to one thing- to make “art” you could be drawing, painting, taking pictures, making music... Plus, when making art you have the right to choose whatever you want to make your piece about! You don’t have to be good either, it’s really about having fun!
When making a piece of artwork I like to put my emotions into it! I could be sad, mad, happy- any emotions that could pop into your head- and I would sit down and start drawing, or painting... It adds an essence to the piece that I can’t normally get if I’m just mindlessly doodling.
Some of my other interests include music, video games, and fashion! I also enjoy writing and I’m learning to play the ukulele (someday I hope to play a guitar)! I also participate in “Odyssey of the Mind.”

My favorite thing about art is that the possibilities are endless. There are so many ways that you could execute a single project. I love the fact that there are so many options when it comes
to making art. For example, when you look at my artwork, one of the things I
like best about it would have to be the color palette. I think that the cool colors
go nicely together. From the blues to the purples the colors create a beautiful palette.
My other hobbies are golf and music I am involved in chorus, band, marching band, and JH basketball.

My favorite thing about art is being able to express any emotion. even the ones you can’t describe in words, you can describe them in art. My favorite media is alcohol-based markers and pens. I love the effect of this artwork because of the time it took to make it, I took thousands of little pieces from many different places and, gathered them into one spot.
In addition to making art I also enjoy animal care, dog training, photography and, spending time in nature.

I also enjoy skiing, soccer, and tennis when I am not creating new works of art.

I like the artist David Hockney’s work; “Robert Littman Floating in my Pool” is my favorite.

I am a junior at Frewsburg Central School, participating and creating art all years of my schooling. I enjoy creating art and testing my artistic abilities.
Bringing ideas to life with art has always been enjoyable for me. My favorite medium is definitely just free hand drawing. Drawing is very relaxing to me.
Specifically, the clover or “Shammy” is very important to my family since we are Irish. The glass pieces in the clover are from my second home, Barcelona in Westfield NY.
Since I was barely walking to my 16th birthday I have camped up on the lake with my family collecting glass, having bonfires, and enjoying beautiful sunsets.

My favorite artist is Andy Warhol, because of the bold statements in his pieces. He was a large influencer for the modern pop-art era and surrounded himself with many other creatives of his time. My favorite piece by Warhol is Skull, 1976. I love Warhol’s use of bold color as a contrast instead of using every day earth tones.
In my work, I adore painting animals, insects, creatures, etc. I’ve recently worked on a series of arachnids, admiring their beauty instead of shaming them for their faults. Everyone has their fears, but spiders are the least concerning critter compared to the turmoil someone might face in their life.
When not working on my art, I am in the Orchestra, Concert Band, Marching Band, Gay-Straight Alliance Club and also a member Artworks on The Summit. I enjoy gardening, theatre, reptile/amphibian keeping, and videogaming.

I was really looking to prioritize color on this piece and how different colors interact with each other in a natural scene - I think that worked out great. I was also very happy with the inclusion of houses and buffaloes in the painting that sort of grounded the whole scene quite nicely. This work is in oil but overall, I’m a very big fan of watercolor. It’s not a very messy medium and it feels very fluid and natural for me.
I participate in marching band, theatre, and student government. I also enjoy writing, movies, music, tennis, and birdwatching.
