tion and declared as University (U/S 3 of UGC Act, 1956) by

Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India in 2004 within only 7 years of

its inception. There are 28 constituent schools, located in impec-

cably landscaped and modern technology enabled campuses of-

fering graduate, post graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral pro-

grams in a wide range of disciplines. The institute’s solemn aca-

demic ambience has led to grant of A-category status to it by the

Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India placing it among the most elite

universities of the country. KIIT Deemed to be University (http://

www.kiit.ac.in) is unique in integrating professional education

with social concern. Its protégé, Kalinga Institute of Social Sci-

ences (KISS) University (http://www.kiss.ac.in), provides holistic

education from KG to PG, food, accommodation, health care and

all basic necessities absolutely free to 25,000 poorest tribal chil-

dren.

SCHOOL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

School of Civil Engineering aims to meet the future needs of the

construction industry and society by producing professional civil

engineers competent in analyzing, designing and managing solu-

tions for practical engineering problems. It imparts sound funda-

mentals at B. Tech. level, specialized subjects at M. Tech. level

and high quality research guidance at Ph.D. level. The school is

actively engaged in several projects including consultancy and

research achievements through various publications. Major areas

of focus are on resources planning, GIS application, pavement

design, slope stability, foundation design, deep excavation,

ground improvement techniques, industrial waste utilization,

alternative building material, ground water pollution, soil-

structure interaction, seismic resistant design of structures, de-

signing of water system etc.

BHUBANESWAR

Bhubaneswar, an ancient capital of Kalinga Empire, has a great-

est architectural legacy of temples like Jagannath, Lingaraj, Muk-

teswar, Brahmeswar, etc. from 7th to 11th century A.D., which is
