News from the President

Rain rain go away and come back another day. It appears that the summer rains have

started early this year and that is good and bad. Good for the grass and bad for the play

on the course. Speaking of play on the course, I have noticed a big up-tic in the amount of

outside play since the closing of Sarasota Golf Club and Oak Ford Golf Club and this is

good for BTCC’s bottom line.

The course is looking better since the fertilizer has been applied and the rains have

returned. Pope management has been very busy attacking the weeds that appeared this

spring and I am happy to report that the elephant grass weeds are almost non-existent at

this point. Also, Pope has been staking off the barren areas around the course that need

grass to grow this summer. That should look really good when you all return in the fall/

winter.

The lake by #1 tee is now full and speaking of lakes I am off to NW Ontario for my

annual wilderness fishing trip!

Keep the ball in the fairway, it is much easier to hit than in the lush rough.

Regards,

-Bob Haase

Maintenance News

Well we started a little early on the summer rains; at this point our rain total is

higher than the average for June. On the bright side it helps with some of the hot

spot areas that the irrigation does not quite cover. With this the bulk application

of fertilizer that we put out this spring is really taken affect now. We are

continuing to clean the weed pressure on the course focusing on tees, fairways,

and green complexes. With some of the agronomic practices we continue to

apply the course is really taken shape. In the next few weeks we will be aerifying

tees, and a few of the problem fairways. We are striving to give you the members

the best playing conditions we can, we are seeing very good improvements on

the course. Some of you may have seen that we had some trees trimmed up to

help with tee shots. The holes we concentrated on were #5, #13, #16, and #18, the

limbs around these tee complexes were affecting the tee shots. With the work

that was done it really opened these areas up and turned out nice. We are looking

at other areas that we can enhance as well at future dates.

We will be continuing our summer program to the greens as far as verticutting

and light topdressing every two weeks. Our next major aerification of greens will

be approaching in the next month. The health of the greens is continuing to

improve with these programs. Our main objective this summer is to prepare the

course for you all this coming season. It is still early in the summer so we will

continue to strive forward to obtain our goal for you all.

We appreciate all of your help on the course fixing ball marks and filling divots it

really makes a difference.
