Opening rubber: Joe v Graeme

CHAMPIONS CLINCH THRILLING FINAL

It was a gripping end to the first season of C Grade as

Champions held on to finish over the top of the

Marrara Mozzies in the grand final on Tuesday night.

A night after Territory Day, it was a cracker of a match

as Joe Howe (Champions) overcame early nerves to put

away Stewart Cobb in the deciding rubber, 10-12, 11-

4, 11-4, 11-2.

Earlier, Joe started strongly for the favourites as he

smashed Graeme Perkins in the opener, 11-5, 11-2, 13-

11. After, Matt Schobben (Champions) routed Stewie,

Robyn Levick (Mozzies) got her team on the board with

a win over Nathan Strecker.

Both doubles went to the deciding set, and both went

to the Mozzies. Graeme and Stewart found a way to

level the match 2-2 when they recovered to edge Matt

and Joe in an upset, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9. In the eighth

rubber, Graeme teamed up with Robyn to tie the

match 4-4, downing Joe and a steady Nathan, 13-15,

11-5, 11-7.

Decider: Joe v Stewart

Champions continued to dominate the singles but

when Graeme defeated Nathan in the tenth rubber, his

Mozzies team forced the match to a decider, which Joe

eventually prevailed.

General Practice in the Mid-Year Break

The table tennis centre will be open for general

practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 pm, and

Friday afternoons from 5 pm. Seniors will still have

their Thursday morning sessions continue as usual.

When training or having a casual hit during those

sessions please respect our rules so that everyone gets

a fair go. When the buzzer goes to vacate the courts to

allow those waiting to have a hit you finish any POINT

in progress and then depart (not finish the set or match

- finish the POINT). With as many as 28 people turning

up to a training night we need to enforce these rules;

non-compliance will force us to solve our overcrowding

problems by suspending the perpetrators.

Junior Nationals

Good luck to our junior squad players who will be

attending this year’s national championships in

Wollongong, 7th to 13th July at the Illawarra Sports

Stadium.

The Season Continues…

…for A Grade on the 24th July. B Grade will resume on

the following night (25th July). C Grade will start a brand

new season, opening from the 23rd July.
