New Enrolment Policies While changes to the Department’s Enrolment Policy came into effect at the start of Term 3 2019, existing enrolments are not affected. The revised policy is designed to support schools to manage all enrolment applications, encourage greater consistency in decision-making and make sure the enrolment choices are clear for parents. During Term 4, we will be highlighting information to help our parents, carers and school community understand some of the key changes. In the meantime please feel free to access some general enrolment information from the Department’s website: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/going-to-a-public-school/enrolment

Kinder News School Fete Donations Thank you to all of the wonderful families that have sent in donations for our upcoming school fete on the 31st October! Kinder Red, Kinder Purple and Kinder Green are asking for donations of wrapped lollies. Kinder Yellow are asking for donations of cooking chocolate (both white and milk), Chang’s Original Fried Noodles, jelly crystals, pretzels and plastic cups and spoons. Please keep sending in donations so that we can make sure that our fete this year is the best one yet! Any donations can be sent to school and given to classroom teachers.

Topsy Turvy Tales As part of our learning in Term 4, Kindergarten students will be focusing on how they can use their imagination to explore traditional fairy tales. Kinder Red have been talking about what it means to be ‘creative’ and had the opportunity to use a variety of craft materials to design and make their own creations. It was wonderful to see students thinking differently and taking risks on making their own creative designs come to life!

Opal Nursing Home Visits Over the term, we have the opportunity to take small groups of students to visit the Opal Nursing Home. Students will be singing, and reading for the residents of the nursing home during these visits. For those students who received a note for our first visit on Monday the 28th of October, please remember to return your notes to Mrs Gay by Wednesday the 23rd. This is a fabulous opportunity to work with members of our community to help make others smile!

5/6L Trip To Opal Aged Care On Wednesday 16th of October Mrs Lunn took 15 students to Opal Nursing Home, where the students heard interesting stories on the life and backgrounds of elderly men and women. Students asked questions to get to know more about them and their experiences. It was amazing to hear about the men and women’s lives. The students were kind and assisted the elderly and shared a special connection with the people they interviewed. They loved visiting and can’t wait to do it again. Students will now write a biography showing what they have learnt about the lives of the elderly and can’t wait to interview another member of the Opal Aged Care community. Please have a look at the photos over the page of our day. Thanks Mrs Lunn and Opal Aged Care for this opportunity.

Reminder

Christmas Boxes - Due in 2 weeks It has been very exciting to see the Christmas Boxes that have been put together during the holidays coming in. We have about 2 weeks until they are due to be handed over ready for transportation overseas. This is an extremely worthwhile activity to do with your children to show them the values of generosity, kindness and gratitude. More boxes are available from the front office or Mrs Prince. Thanks you once again for your support and demonstrating to our children that kindness matters! Mrs Prince

Soccer/Footy Boots for Uganda Congratulations to the families at Dubbo South for contributing over 50 pairs of soccer/footy boots to the children at Joy Blessed School. The Carter family (the founders of Life Charity Focus Uganda) who run the school are collecting the boots ready to be delivered in November. It is wonderful to see our school community contribute to another school community. We sponsor Zahara (one of our sponsor children) through Life Charity Focus Uganda. I am sure there are going to be many happy children running around their Ugandan playground with huge smiles on their faces! Mrs Prince

Year 6 Farewell The Year 6 farewell will be held this term. All Year 5 are asked to bring in $10 entry. This covers the cost of entry, food and a cake. Please give this to your class teacher. On Thursday 24th October we are asking Year 5 to donate cupcakes to sell to raise money for the decorations for our “Neon Party” theme this year.
