Climbing is a dangerous activity,failure by the operator to pay full

attention to all warnings, cautionsand instructions on installation,

use and maintenance of this AutoBelay, may result in serious injury

and even death.

All owners and operators musthave read or have had explained

to them the instructions,warnings and cautions for use of

this Auto Belay.

All owners must have read andshown to have understood theinstallation process and use of

this Auto Belay.

INFORMATION

All owners and operators musthave an emergency rescue plan

for any climbers in distress at allsites operating this Auto Belay.

Operators must inform or be

informed of the rescue plan forclimbers prior to climbing.

The Auto Belay device is warranted against factory defects in materialsand workmanship (excluding replaceable wear parts which may includebrake pads, lifeline and hook) for a period of 1 Year from date ofpurchase. The warranty is only valid to the original purchaser and onlyunder the condition that all Arrestyd instructions have been adhered toand the device has been maintained as per instructions and re-certified/serviced by a trained operative every 12 months maximumdependent on usage. The sole remedy for breach of this warranty, or for any claim innegligence or strict liability in act, is the repair and replacement of anydefective parts by Arrestyd upon formal notice and acceptance of such aclaim herewith. Arrestyd reserve the right to have any defectiveequipment returned to its factory or to a nominated service facility forinspection prior to making any repairs or replacements. Any maintenance carried out on the Auto Belay must be carried out by atrained professional and genuine Arrestyd parts must be used asreplacements. Any sign of tampering with the device or use of any non-Arrestyd parts will make the warranty null and void. This warranty does not cover damages resulting from abuse, transit orany other damage out of the control of Arrestyd. This warranty does not cover trade accessories or component partswhich are not made by Arrestyd. It is the owners responsibility under the terms of this warranty to ensurethat the device is used and maintained correctly and servicedaccordingly depending on usage. The following is the responsibility ofthe the owner and failure to adhere to these points will make thewarranty null and void:

Carry out routine maintenance and inspections. Normal replacements of service items.Replacements required due to abuse, misuse or improper operationalhabits of the operator. Replacement of wearing parts.Normal deterioration due to general use and exposure.

This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties expressed or implied. Noother person or agent is authorized to give any other warranty other thanthe one herein expressed on behalf of Arrestyd or to assume to it anyliability pertaining to such products. Arrestyd disclaims any guaranteethat the purchased device is suitable for the particular use intended bythe owner and shall not be held liable to the owner /purchaser fordamages of any kind including but not limited to loss of projected profits,equipment downtime, or any losses considered to be caused by non-operation or servicing/re-certification downtime of any equipment.

The Auto Belay is a controlled descent device and can be used forrecreational climbing in gyms and on fixed or portable climbing walls.Using this device eliminates the requirement for a belayer byproviding hands-free belay for a climber. However, on letting go of thewall the auto belay will not suspend the climber in mid-air, it willdescend the climber to the ground at a controlled rate. The line whenreleased will then automatically retract permitting multiple descents.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Only be used by persons in a fit medical condition that can work from heightand do so in both normal and an emergency situation.Read and thoroughly understand the operating manual before inspection oruse of this product.If there are any points in this operating manual that you are unsure of, seekadvice from a trained individual. Be fully trained with operating the device and familiar with the correct actionsin case of an emergency.Maximum permitted load is 150kg.Be familiar with the use of the product prior to working from height.Carry out appropriate pre-use checks and quality assurance.Assess the work area to ensure adequate supporting structural attachments arein place.Understand and accept the risk involved in use of this product.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Prior to installation of the Auto Belay the user must makethemselves aware of all relevant standards for anchorpoints, hardware and equipment used. Before use ensurethat all checks and inspection have been completed inaccordance with the section inspection. Always mount theAuto Belay in a vertical position with the carabiner pointingdownwards. Failure to do so may result in not operatingcorrectly and compromise user safety. Minimum requirements for anchor points must conform tothe requirements of:

EN 12572: 2007 - Climbing Wall Anchor PointsEN 795: 2012 - Anchor Devices

The location of the anchors point for the Auto Belay mustcomply with the following.

Minimum load capacity of the anchor points is 20kN forapplication.The anchor points must not be used for any otherpurposes (unless associated with the installation of theAuto Belay) or as attachments for hardware notassociated with the Auto Belay installation.Anchor point should be of suitable size to correctly installany mounting hardware.

Warning - Always install the Auto Belay using themounting points indicated. incorrect mounting of theAuto Belay may result in serious injury or death.

INSPECTION BEFORE USE

Check that an appropriate harness is used and fittedcorrectly.Pull out a short length of line sharply from the Auto Belay,resistance should be felt immediately.Allow the line to retract, the line should return smoothlyinto the device without stopping. Attach the carabiner tothe harness loop ensuring the gate is closed correctly.Never climb alongside or above the auto descender.Never descend from above the Auto Belay.Prior to descent, ensure the landing area is free frompersons or obstructions.Always descend feet first using feet to fend off anyobstacles and prepare for landing.Do not twist, bend or stand on the webbing as this couldcause damage.

Warning - This device must only be serviced by a trainedand competent individual. Never attempt to service thisunit or tamper with its function in any way.

NOTE: IF NO RESISTANCE IS FELT OR THE LINE DOES NOTRETRACT SMOOTHLY OR STOPS DO NOT CLIMB ANDREPORT THE PROBLEM TO A MEMBER OF STAFF.

INSTALLATION OF DEVICE

EN 362: 2004 – Types of connectors for personal protection.EN 12275: 2013 – Types of connectors for mountaineering.All connectors, hooks, D-rings and shackles used to mount the AutoBelay must meet minimum breaking loads of 20kN and be ofcompatible size, shape and strength for the mounting point towhich they are attached.

CONNECTORS

LOCATIONAll anchor points have a minimum load capacity of 20kN as statedin EN 795: 2012 and conform to all requirements for such a device. The Auto Belay can hang freely (not against the wall) in a verticalposition with the carabiner pointing downwards and the brakemodule pointing away from the wall. That when the Auto Belay is in use all possible paths that can beused by a climber are free from rough, sharp edges and/or highfriction surfaces that may damage the line. That the descent path and landing area are clear of objects and freefrom other climbers or obstacles that could cause entanglement orobstruct the climber's ascent or descent. It is recommended that in wet or aggressive environments the autodescender is protected from the direct ingress of water and/orforeign objects. Please speak with your distributor about offering apossible solution for this.

NOTE: PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THE ELEMENTS COULDINCREASE RISK OF INTERNAL CORROSION ANDDEGRADATION OF THE LINE, RESULTING IN INCREASEDOPERATION AND SERVICING COSTS. DO NOT STORE THEDEVICE WITH WET LINE.

MOUNTING DEVICE

Use only the designated mounting points for single or doublemounting ensuring all mounting hardware is secure but free topivot in the mounting point.It is recommended that the Auto Belay be mounted 100mmminimum away from the wall to minimize wear or damage to theAuto Belay covers and the climbing wall surface. Two point mounting is the preferred method of mounting the AutoBelay with a third non-loaded mount offset as a back-up.

It is the duty of the owner/purchaser to ensure that all users of theAuto Belay system have been trained in using the Auto Belay andhave been informed of the site rescue plan the facility have in place.

PRIOR TO CLIMBING

Check the harness is fitted correctly. Pull out a short length of line from the auto belay, resistance shouldbe felt immediately. Allow the line to retract, the line should return smoothly into thedevice without stopping. Attach the carabiner to the harness loop ensuring the gate is closedcorrectly. Never climb alongside or above the Auto Belay. Never descend from above the Auto Belay. Prior to descent, ensure the landing area is free from persons orobstructions. Always descend feet first using feet to fend off any obstacles andprepare for landing.Do not twist, bend or stand on the wire rope as this could causedamage to the rope.

The carabiner is a self-closing, auto locking triple action carabiner and issupplied as an integral part of the line. The carabiner must be checkedprior to every climb to ensure it is in a serviceable condition prior to use.The carabiner should only be loaded in a vertical direction. If thecarabiner is damaged or un-serviceable, the complete descent line mustbe replaced – using only genuine Arrestyd parts.

CARABINER

The carabiner is opened by sliding the gate down, rotate the gatecollar then push the gate open towards the back of the carabiner.Connect the carabiner to the correct loop of the harness with thelatch facing away from the user. Allow the gate to snap fully shut, ensuring the collar has fully rotatedand is locked. Ensure that there are no obstructions in or near thegate such as clothing, webbing etc.

HARNESSES

Harnesses must comply to the following standards when used with thisAuto Belay.

EN 361:2002- Personal protective equipment for preventionof fall from a height – full body harness

EN 813:2008 – Personal protective equipment for preventionof falls from height – sit harness

EN 12277: 2007 Type A Full body harness EN 12277: 2007 Type B Small Full body harness EN 12277: 2007 Type C Sit harness EN 12277: 2007 Climbing harness

All Harnesses must be of correct size for the user in serviceablecondition and in certification.

INSPECTION

DEVICE INSPECTION

The Auto Belay will require daily, monthly and yearly checks as aminimum. It is the responsibility of the owner/purchaser to preform thesechecks or to arrange for them to be carried out and to contact theirnominated service facility with any concerns. A service agent can then bedispatched to deal with any concerns for a fee. Ask your nominatedservice facility for the record sheets for these checks.

1. Check carabiner is undamaged and that the collar and gate arefunctioning correctly.

These can be downloaded from www.ayd.uk.com.

2. Check the webbing is undamaged:

Cuts or abrasions to the stitching.Cutting, wear or abrasion to the surface of the line.Discoloration or fading to the surface.Heat or friction damage indicated by hard or shiny surfaces.Contamination from dirt or chemicals.Twisting or knotting.

3. Pull down on the line to feel instant resistance, and check for anyunusual noise or failure to retract. If there is no resistance, any unusualsound or retraction is not smooth or retraction stops, take the device outof service and contact your service agent.

The webbing must be replaced if any signs or damage are present. If inany doubt contact your service agent.

Remove the Auto Belay from the wall. Check for any damage corrosion, cracking or deformation to thecasing. Clean any dust or dirt from the cover using a damp clean cloth anddry thoroughly.Check all mounting holes for damage or corrosion. Check all safety labels are in place and in date. Check the line - refer to daily checks. Check the carabiner for correct and smooth operation of thelocking gate.

Contact your nominated service facility immediately if from doingyour checks on the Auto Belay it is noticed to be sluggish inretraction, if the descent is noticeably different or there is anunusual noise, as these would indicate requirement for service by anominated service facility. Do not attempt to carry out any servicing or maintenance notmentioned in this manual.Any unauthorized works, repairs or modifications carried out to theauto belay will compromise safety, render the unit not fit for use,and void all warranty provisions.

DEPENDANT ON THE USAGE OF THE AUTO BELAY,MECHANICAL PARTS AND LINES MAY NEED TO BE REPLACEDMORE THAN ONCE A YEAR TO ENSURE THE DEVICE IS INFULL WORKING ORDER. RECORDING YOUR DAILY AND MONTHLY CHECKS ISESSENTIAL TO ENSURE THE AUTO BELAY MEETS ALL SAFETYREQUIREMENTS.

STORAGE

All devices should be stored in the following manner:-

Store in a central protected location allowing assurance ofinspection issues and returns.Keep in a cool dry place.Thoroughly clean and dry the Auto Belay after use in wet ordamp conditions. Fully extend the line and let it dry beforestoring the device. Protect from damage by chemical attack, sharp objects,heat and cold. Store at a temperature of between -30⁰C to +50⁰C. Store the Auto Belay with a record card and operationmanual at all times.When finished return the device to store.NEVER leave the Auto Belay device lying around on site.

IF THE DEVICE HAS BEEN OUT OF USE FOR 1 WEEKOR MORE, PLEASE ENSURE A THOROUGHINSPECTION AND OPERATION CHECK IS CARRIEDOUT BEFORE USE AND THAT THE UNIT HAS NODAMAGE.
