FIRST WEEK OF LENTFebruary 18 – 28, 2015
Ash Wednesday — February 18Ash Wednesday Services
“Lord, Make Me An InstrumentOf Thy Peace”
12:15 & 7:00 pm | Sanctuary
Rev. Linda McDermottBegin the journey through Lent with a moving service of self-reflection and invitation to renewal. As the ashes
symbolizing human mortality are imposed, we remember that we are finite creatures living out eternal life in Christ. We pray,
then that God would teach us the ways of peace as we seek to be God’s people
in this world.
Simultaneous Children’s Service“Why Do We Get Ashes On
Our Heads?” 7:00 pm | Chapel
Mister Mark Burrows Children gather in the Chapel to sing songs, participate in many different
forms of prayer, and receive the imposition of ashes as they learn about Ash Wednesday and its significance in
this special kid-friendly service created to parallel adult worship
in the Sanctuary.
Prayer StationsSanctuary & Narthex
7:30 – 11:45 am | 1:00 – 2:00 pm 5:00 – 6:45 pm | 8:00 – 9:00 pm
Prayer Stations are a Lenten opportunity for a variety of devotional and
meditational experiences that invite you to go deeper in your personal walk. Eight
stations will be set up in the Narthex and Sanctuary on February 18 (Ash
Wednesday) and February 22 (the first Sunday in Lent). The stations correspond to the overall and weekly themes of the season as we go on a journey through the beloved Prayer of Saint Francis.
They are designed for as much or as little time as your schedule allows. As you set aside moments to pray in different ways, connect to yourself, to your neighbors,
and to God through prayer.May you experience the depth of God’s
love and guidance as you begin this Holy Season of Lent.

Scripture: Romans 6:1-11In perfect complement to our Lenten
journey of reckoning and renewal using the Prayer of Saint Francis as our guide, we enter the Easter Season of new life
following our Lenten journey through the specific challenges of Saint Francis’
prayer — turning hatred to love, injury to pardon, doubt to faith, despair to hope, darkness to light, and sadness to joy — seeking to Open to Peace in our own
lives and in our world.
In this beautiful Easter morning service, Dr. Tim Bruster will wrap up his powerful
Open to Peace Lenten sermon series with Easter’s Ultimate Good News: “It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.” This glorious celebration will also feature
our own Choral Union with Junior Worship Leader Owen Harvey, a boy soprano soloist, to offer Leonard Bernstein’s
affirmative and at times serene “Chichester Psalms,” (honoring the 50th anniversary of this major choral work), accompanied by organ, brass, harp,
and percussion.
