Come, explore Laudato Si!
Saturday April 22nd from 8.30 to 10.00 Fr. Emmet Farrell will offer a presentation on what is perhaps the most important Catholic docu-ment of our time--Pope Francis’
encyclical “Laudato Si”. This encyclical launches a new theology of evolution, which will bring the Church into the 21st century. It is an extension of De Chardin vision which saw the evolutionary process in light of faith: “God creates, you could say, through evolution.” “The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the living Word of God that continues to be spoken as the word of evolution.” “The incarnation is not a one-off event
in history; it holds the key to the true reality of all time and space, of all life as it evolves and grows to-ward final fulfillment. It is in fact a long love story drawing us to cherish and transform our true cosmic home.”
The doctrine of original sin will be reworked in terms of evolution to develop a theology of evolution. It will bring Catholicism into the modern world, fitted with a new cosmology.
As De Chardin says, “The very world itself is sacra-mental because the divine Word of God is revealed in all dimensions of evolution.”
Simon Weil touches on this vision saying: “The beau-ty of the world is God’s tender smile for us coming through matter.”
Sr. Illia Delio says: “What we are seeking is not the appearance of God in the world, but the shining of God through creation, a ‘diaphany’ of God radiating through a world that becomes transparent.” This re-quires a radical perception shift in our understanding of the Incarnation. It is a “New Universe Story” and it will transform our understanding of the Eucharist, Baptism and all the sacraments.
Sr. Elizabeth Johnson tells us: “a flourishing humani-ty on a thriving planet, rich in species in an evolving universe, all together filled with the glory of God: such is the vision that must guide us at this critical time of the Earth’s distress.” Theologian Brian Swimme says: “the earth was once molten rock – and now it sings operas.”
It has never been more necessary to cherish and care for our planet and ourselves. To build and direct earth we need this hope-filled vision of Laudato Si. How to develop the “political will” to get it started? Saint Ex-upery, author of the Little Prince, said: “If you want to build a ship you don’t drum up people to collect wood, and don’t assign them tasks, but rather you teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.”
Risen!
May our Easter celebration raise us up and renew our lives! One of the great songs we often sing on Easter has the words, “This is the feast of victory of our God. Alleluia!” Our every struggle, our every hope and desire come to-gether in this day, for, as our new Easter banner ex-claims, “The tomb is empty, and our hearts are full; for he has risen as he promised!”
Sometimes Easter Sunday can be a busy day, with visiting, celebratory meals, and travel. But if we make this our prayer, calling to mind throughout the day—from our waking moment to the night’s re-pose—it can help us remember what the empty tomb means and what we are grateful for. There is Light in the midst of every darkness because new life, ev-erlasting life, is ours. Our journey to the font of re-newal has helped us remember that we are one with Him and shall rise with Him. We affirm this unity in the renewal of our Baptismal promises in today’s Liturgy—let us go forth and live it throughout the year.

AROUND TOWN
Daily Prayer for Our Priests
O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests; for your unfaithful & tepid priests; for your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for your tempted priests; for your lonely & desolate priests; for your young priests; for your dying priests; for the souls of your priests in Purgatory. But above all, I recommend to you the priests dearest to me: the priest who baptized me, the priests who absolved me from my sins, the priests at whose Masses I assisted & who gave me Your body & blood in Communion, the priests to whom I am indebted any other way especially (name….) O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart, and bless them abundantly in time & in eternity. Amen. --St. Therese of Lisieux
