ECHS Library Corner Eau Claire High Library Literacy Tip Keep books and magazines around your house. Pick up some books from Richland Library North Main for yourself, and encourage your child to pick some for themselves using their student ID, which serves as a public library card! (In addition to telling them they should stop by the school library.)

ECHS Library Book of the Month The Epic Crush of Genie Lo by F.C. Yee - The struggle to get into a top-tier

college consumes sixteen-year-old Genie Lo's every waking thought. But when her sleepy Bay Area town comes under siege from spawn straight out of Chinese folklore, her priorities are suddenly and forcefully rearranged. Her only guide to the demonic chaos breaking out around her is Quentin Sun, a beguiling, maddening new transfer student from overseas. Quentin assures Genie she is strong enough to fight these monsters, for she unknowingly harbors an inner power that can level the very gates of Heaven. Genie will have to dig deep within herself to summon the otherworldly strength that Quentin keeps talking about. But as she does, she finds the secret of her true nature is entwined with his, in a way she could never have imagined…

RICHLAND ONE ANNOUNCES HURRICANE FLORENCE MAKEUP DAYS

Richland One has announced the days that students will make up instructional time they missed when schools were closed September 11-14 by order of the governor.

Gov. Henry McMaster ordered schools in Richland County and two dozen other South Carolina counties to close ahead of Hurricane Florence to help clear the roads and make preparations to accommodate residents of coastal counties who were being evacuated.

At tonight’s (September 25) meeting, the Richland One Board of School Commissioners approved October 12, December 21 and March 8 as makeup days. Each makeup day will be a half day for students and a full day for staff. The Board also approved a request from the district’s administrative team to waive the fourth missed day.

October 12 previously was designated as a student holiday/district professional development day; December 21 would have been the first day of Winter Break; and March 8 would have been a holiday for students and staff.

South Carolina school districts are required by state law to designate three makeup days in their academic calendars. Three missed days must be made up, but local school boards can vote to waive up to three days if schools are closed four to six days due to snow, extreme weather conditions or other disruptions. If schools are closed six to nine days for any of the same reasons, local school boards may request a waiver from the State Board of Education.

Richland One employees will receive information from the district regarding Hurricane Florence makeup days for employees.
