    THERE SHALL BE CRISES

The Futuristic committee of Kochi Model United Nation is in the year 2016. The FCC officially started its day

with the afternoon session after opening with the general speakers list where the discussion took a turn when

the Russian delegate requested the OPEC nations to go slow in the procedures of changing the currency from

    the US dollar.

General debate continued, with the delegates of Canada and Kuwait blindly supporting the decisions of the

USA, in the need to change US dollar currency. The chair put confusions to rest by pointing out the possibility of

an economy breakdown if the currency were to be changed from the dollar. USA then stated that the OPEC had

to understand the basic concept regarding the credibility of currency.

USA came up with a solution for maintaining status quo, suggesting that the OPEC nations continue to use the

US dollar currency for financial transactions.

With the crisis situation updated, Qatar was of the opinion that negotiations should take place with a currency

that is stable at the moment. Iraq thought that the OPEC should resolve this issue as soon as possible, as oil was

running out at an alarming rate. Canada strongly felt that the US dollar today, is the best in transaction as most

of the MNCs and other sectors used the dollar for transactions. This was supported strongly by the delegate of

    Kuwait.

The next update emphasized on the usage of Alaskan oil for military purposes and the OPECs decision not tosell oil in dollars. In fact, the delegates of the much hyped futuristic council failed to come to any consensus

    whatsoever!

The Delegates at the FCC tried hard to solve the

    incessant series of crises..

While the Chairperson of the FCC decided to make love

    with the surroundings!

    Disarmament? Armament? Say What?!

Despite being a Council on disarmament, the CoD seemed

to unanimously agree that complete disarmament is not a

    good idea.

In fact, they were not even sure what the parameters of

country ownership on arm deals should be. Later in the

day, the Council realized that half the points of discussion

were related to corruption, especially on the part of the

P5. Then rose the question of secure and insecure arms

recipients, what with the South Korean delegate calling Palestine insecure and Israel responsible. The Polish

delegate seemed to think that the Soviet countries were very responsible and they should not be treated like

small kids playing with arms. Then, by the end of the third session, he had, very conveniently, changed his

countrys foreign policy. With Russia constantly attacking the US and the latter proposing only idealistic and

hypocritical points, it took the UK delegates analysis of American, Russian and Chinese arms policies to expose

    the pseudo-proliferator*s+.

In general, the Council, though opinionated, seems indecisive.

    BUT on the sidelines

    -

Delegate of New Zealand (when asked to speak): I plead ignorance.- Delegate of Belgium used the term Superpowers and the delegates of South Korea and Iraq pointed out

that it wasnt a term used in the UN, to which the delegate of Belgium responses was: I apologize for

    overrating common sense

    - The Delegate of Israel when asked to speak: I shall speak after lunch.- The US delegate (when the chair asked for an afore-mentioned fiery speech): The delegate cannot do that.

The fiery speech was itwas a false statement.

    - Delegate of UK: The delegate wonders why the delegate of South Korea is so hungry that he is eating uphalf his words.

    INTERPOL: ILLEGALALITY JUSTIFIED?

After a general introduction, the first session of

extraordinary rendition of individuals accused of

terrorism started. Interestingly among the 50 delegates

who were present, only a few delegates like Israel, USA,

UAE and Iran were taking active part in the session.

The first moderated caucus was proposed by UAE after

the General speakers list started off with Netherlands,

Saudi Arabia and few others. The moderated caucus

focused on improving already existing laws on human rights regarding extraordinary rendition. At times it

seemed like the council stagnated, as a lot of points already brought up before were repeated.

The second session which started after tea was based on finding a definition for extra ordinary rendition.

Interestingly during this session, discussion moved from definition of terrorism to illegal abducting of foreign

suspects. The executive board ended with being disappointed and expecting more from the council the next

    day.

    BUT on the sidelines

RESEMBLECE OF INTERPOL CHAIR WITH RAHUL GANDHI WAS DISCUSSED AS IF IT WAS THEIR AGENDA. DANCING TO SHIELA KI JAWANI WOULD BE THE MOST ENTERTAINING PUNISHMENT ANY DELEGATES

COULD EVER HOPE TO HAVE AND THE DELEGATES OF INTERPOL GOT JUST THAT.

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

The supposed first session of the Non-Alignment

Movement (NAM) started with a 15 minute break that

allowed delegates to move around and interact with

other delegates. The delegates made optimum use of

this opportunity to start lobbying and gather support.

The actual sessions started with the delegates debating

on which nations should be on the UN Security Council

(UNSC). Indias Permanent Membership was discussed

and opposed by Libya, Venezuela and Colombia. Indias

retort to this was the Oh-so-clichd quote from

    SpidermanWith great powers come great

    responsibility.

The United States, which had joined NAM as an observer, used the same words to accuse India of only wanting

veto to use it against Pakistan. However it later assured that as president Obama had promised, India would

eventually get to be a permanent member of the UNSC.

Before breaking for tea, the council enjoyed a moment of levity when the delegate of Cuba yielded her time to

the delegate of Vietnam who seemed utterly clueless and dumbstruck. The delegate of Vietnam later informed

the Al-Jazeera reporter that he had been busy over the phone, and stated that he deeply regrets and apologizes

    to the delegate of Cuba.

The session following tea lacked the enthusiasm and conviction that the delegates then built up in the hours

preceding the short break. However, they continued to discuss the relevancy of veto power and went on to work

on 2 working papers that were discussed in the committee following an un-moderated caucus.

    BUT on the sidelines

Delegate of Zimbabwe, by what could only be interpreted as a slip of tongue said countries like Africain his speech.

In an attempt to attack both US and India, the delegate of Bahrain called the USover-responsible andIndia under-responsible following the two nations reference to the Spiderman quote while they

discussed Indias place in the UNSC.

Brazil in its general description of scams being prevalent in India accused India of a 2G scam and 3Gscam (exaggerate much?)
