You may have started to feel the crispness in the air as the Boys of Summer prepare to cel-ebrate 'America’s Pastime' in theWorld Series in late October.

On 05 October at 1000, the Joint Executive Council of Veter-ans Organizations of Kentucky will meet in Elizabethtown. The discussion will be on Veterans is-sues and legislation.

On 08 October at 0800, Rep-resentative Joe Pitts will host a breakfast at the Veterans' Plaza William O. Beach Civic Hall, to discuss the 2017 legislative ses-sion. The legislative committee, along with all other Tennessee veterans’ organizations, are working on the two legislative is-sues to recommend to state leg-islators.

The Austin Peay Military Alumni Banquet is 21 October at 1800 in the Morgan Center. Key-note Speaker is MAJ Horace Murphy, Jr. USA (Ret). Please

join several Chapter members in attending this ROTC program.

Our Chapter luncheon on Sat-urday, 15 October will be at Ed-ward’s Steak House in Clarks-ville. We will assemble at 1100 and meal at 1130. Montgomery County Trustee, Brenda Radford,will share what veterans need to know about issues that affect veterans and active duty person-nel in Montgomery County.

During the October and No-vember Chapter meetings, please bring an unwrapped toy donation for Operation Home-front.

We look forward to the Veter-ans Day Breakfast & Parade, 05 November; SAFE benefit break-fast, 10 November; USMC Birth-day Celebration; and in Decem-ber, the Army/Navy game and Christmas Dinner.Drive with Lights on for Safety,

Thirty-Five members and guests gathered at Campbell’s Kitchen for the Third Annual Remembrance of the Vietnam War and a delicious meal of schnitzel with all the fixings.

The POW/MIA Missing-Man Tableopening ceremony was conducted byhonorary member Gery Ezell, while COLChuck Render recited the ritual text.

CDR Adames gave a 2-minute specialhistory of the Annin Flag Makers.

Next, Several members related theirremembrance of the Vietnam experience: LTC Gus Seibert—an artificial-eyeincident; Mrs. John Schuler—herexperience as a dependent child; CW3

Jere Hodges—saving Bob Hope and Neal Armstrong from rocket attack; Mrs. Freida Borlund—theperspective of a young woman dating soldiers going to Vietnam and recollections of Lt. Calley; and COL Tom Borlund—the perspective of a leader of troops in Vietnam. Eachgave an interesting and entertaining presentation.

A Certificate of Appreciation was given toCampbell’s Kitchen, and a Chapter coin was givento LTC Gus Siebert, who also received a signedcopy of COL Chuck Render’s book Brandy. CDR Adames also introduced new member Rich Bray.

Gery Ezell announced that through the efforts ofChapter members, a veteran with PTSD andmobility issues, and a single father oftwo, was awarded a fully trained servicedog and was made a member of FallenSoldiers March.

The meeting was concluded with the closing of the POW/MIAMissing-Man Table by Gery Ezell.
