• Glazed Cooking Utensils. Only certain types ofglass, glass/ceramic, ceramic, earthenware, orother glazed utensils are suitable for range-topservice without breaking due to the suddenchange in temperature.

• Utensil Handles Should Be Turned Inward and

Not Extend Over Adjacent Surface Units. Toreduce the risk of burns, ignition of flammablematerials, and spillage due to unintentionalcontact with the utensil, the handle of a utensilshould be positioned so that it is turned inward, and does not extend over adjacent surface units.

Cleaning

(See pages 40N42 for more information).

Before first use, clean the cooktop.

Clean your cooktop daily or after each use. This willkeep your cooktop looking good and can preventdamage.

If a spillover occurs while cooking, immediately cleanthe spill from the cooking area while it is hot toprevent a tough cleaning. Using extreme care, wipespill with a clean dry towel.

Do not allow spills to remain on the cooking area orthe cooktop trim for a long period of time.

Do not use abrasive cleansing powders or scouringpads which will scratch the cooktop.

Do not use chlorine bleach, ammonia, or othercleansers not specifically recommended for use onglass-ceramic.

To Prevent Other Damages

Do not allow plastic, sugar, or foods with high sugarcontent to melt onto the hot cooktop. Should thishappen, clean immediately. (See Cleaning pages40N42.)

Do not let a pan boil dry as this will damage thesurface and pan.

Do not use cooktop as a work surface or cutting board.

Do not cook food directly on the surface.

To Prevent Marks and Scratches

Do not use glass pans. They may scratch the surface.

Do not place a trivet or wok ring between the surfaceand pan. These items can mark or scratch the top.

Do not slide aluminum pans across a hot surface. Thepans may leave marks which need to be removedpromptly.(See Cleaning pages 40-42).

Make sure the surface and the pan bottom are cleanbefore turning on to prevent scratches.

To prevent scratching or damaging to the glass-ceramic top, do not leave sugar, salt, or fats on thecooking area. Wipe the cooktop surface with a cleancloth or paper towel before using.

Do not slide heavy metal pans across the surfacesince these may scratch.

To Prevent Stains

Do not use a soiled dish cloth or sponge to clean thecooktop surface. A film will remain which may causestains on the cooking surface after the area is heated.

Continuously cooking on a soiled surface will result inresult in a permanent stain.

GLASS/CERAMIC COOKTOP SURFACECooktop Surface Notes:

• Cooktop may emit light smoke and odor the firstfew times the cooktop is used. This is normal.

• Glass cooktops retain heat for a period of timeafter the elements are turned off. Turn theelements off a few minutes before food is completelycooked and use the retained heat to completecooking. When the hot surface light turns off, thecooking area will cool down enough to touch.Because of the way the cooktop retains heat, theelements will not respond to changes in the settingsas quickly as coil elements.

• In the event of a potential boilover, remove the panfrom the cooking surface.

• Do not attempt to lift the cooktop.

• The smoothtop surface may appear discolored whenit is hot. This is normal and will disappear when thesurface cools.

Page 14: E[ECIR[CnANGE - Sears Parts Direct

SURFACECONIROIS COOKING

COOKING AREASThe cooking areas on your range are identified bypermanent circles on the glass cooktop surface. Forthe most efficient cooking, fit the pan size to theelement size.

Pans should not extend more than 112to 1-inchbeyond the cooking area.

When a control is turned on, a glow can be seenthrough the glass cooktop surface. The element willcycle on and off to maintain the preset heatsetting, even on Hi.

USING THE PROPER COOKWAREUsing the right cookware can prevent many problems, such as food taking longer to cook or achievinginconsistent results. Proper pans will reduce cookingtimes and cook food more evenly. Stainless steel isrecommended.

Check pans for flat bottoms by

using a straight edge or ruler

0 Place a ruler across the bottomof the pan.

_t Hold it up to the light.

O No light should be visible underthe ruler.

NOTE:

• Do not use a small pan on a large element. Not onlydoes this waste energy, but it can also result inspillovers burning onto the cooking area whichrequires extra cleaning.

• Do not use non-flat specialty items that areoversized or uneven such as round bottom woks, rippled bottom, and/or oversized canners and griddles.

• Do not use foil or foil-type containers. Foil may meltonto the glass. If metal melts on the cooktop, do notuse. Call an authorized Service agent.

Flat bottom and Curved, grooved, or warpedstraight sides, pan bottoms. Pans with

uneven bottoms do not cookefficiently and sometimesmay not boil liquid.

Heavy-gauge pans. Very thin-gauge metal orglass pans.

Pan sizes match the Pans are smaller or largeramount of food to be than the element.prepared and the sizeof the surface element.

Weight of handle does Cookware with loose ornot tilt pan. Pan is well broken handles. Heavybalanced, handles that tilt the pan.

Tight-fitting lids. Loose-fitting lids.

Flat bottom woks. Woks with a ring-standbottom.

HOME CANNING TIPSBe sure the canner is centered over the surface unit.Make sure the canner is flat on the bottom. The base must not be more than 1 inch larger than theelement. Use of water bath canners with rippled bottomsmay extend the time required to bring the water to a boiland cooktops may be damaged.

Some canners are designed with smaller bases for useon smooth top surfaces.

Use the high heat setting only until the water comes to aboil or pressure is reached in the canner.

Reduce to the lowest heat setting that maintains the boil,or pressure. If the heat is not turned down, the cooktopmay be damaged.

Tips for baking

Follow the recipe or convection food directions forbaking temperature, time and rack position. Bakingtime and temperature will vary depending on theingredients, size, and shaped of the baking pan used.

• For best results, food should be bake food on asingle rack with at least 1" to 1 1/2" of air spacebetween the pans and oven walls.

• Check for doneness at the minimum time.

• Use metal bakeware (with or without a nonstickfinish), heatproof glass-ceramic, ceramic or otherbakeware recommended for oven use.

• Dark metal pans or nonstick coatings will cook fasterwith more browning. Insulated bake ware will slightlylengthen the cooking time for most foods.

DUAL CONVECTION BAKEDual Convection baking uses two fans to circulate the oven's heat evenly and continuously within the oven.Improved heat distribution allows for even cooking and excellent results using multiple racks at the time. Foodscooked on a single oven rack will generally cook faster and more evenly with Dual Convection Bake. Multipleoven rack cooking may slightly increase cook times for some foods, but the overall result is time saved.

Benefits of Dual Convection Bake:

0 Some foods cook up to 40% faster, saving cookingtime.

O Foods with Dual Convection Bake cook moreevenly compared to non convection.

when cooking speed is desired. The oven can beprogrammed for Dual Convection Bake at anytemperature between 300°F (150°C) to 550°F (285°C).

Tips for Convection Bake

• Time reductions will vary depending on the amountand type of food to be cooked. Cookies and biscuitsshould be baked on pans with no sides or very lowsides to allow heated air to circulate around thefood. Food baked on pans with a dark finish willcook faster.

• When using Convection Bake with a single rack, place oven rack in position D. If cooking on multipleracks, place the oven racks in positions B and D (for2 racks). Place in positions B, D, and F (for 3 racks).

• Cakes have better results when baked using theBAKE function. You can still (you can still usemultiple racks when baking multiple cake layers atthe same time).

• Cookies, muffins, biscuits and other quickbreadsgive very good results when using multiple racks.

NOTE:• The convection fan stops during a convection bake

cycle to allow for more even heating. This is normal.

• During oven operation, it is possible that the ovencooling fan will operate to cool the control panel. This is normal operation.
