親愛的義工們，

首先，感謝各義工的體諒，在過去多個月來在人事上的更新，須各人不斷適應及配

合，謝謝你們耐心的包容。

最近「送餐服務」部門人手非常緊張，前義工經理 於 6 月中請辭繼續學

業，中式送餐部聯絡人 工作 年於 10 月退休離職；其工作由 替

任，我也替代了 在卑斯護理會的職務，同時亦接管了招募中餐義工的工作。辦

工室其他成員 跟 亦相應作出不同工作配合。

因人手短缺，如我們未能接聽你的電話請多見諒。如你留下口信我們會盡快回電。感

謝你們的體諒及包容，特別是那些在緊急情況下，替代臨時請假的義工。你們無私的

付出，我代表卑斯護理會衷心感謝你們！

在此，預祝你們有一個愉快的聖誕節假日！

Dear Meals on Wheels Volunteers, A big thank you to all our volunteers. There have been many changes since our last Newsletter–staffing changes, new soup containers and soup trays – we appreciate your patience. It has been quite busy here in the office as our previous Volunteer Manager, Jacquie left in mid-June to pursue further education and Shirley, Chinese Meals on Wheels coordinator has recently retired. Thank you, Chris, Mari and Yvonne for helping out in the office during the transition. I have stepped in to the Volunteer Program office. Jennifer Li has begun her position as part-time Chinese Meals on Wheels Worker. We are managing with only one staff person in each of the coordinators office; we appreciate your patience if you don’t get a live person on the phone. We were very fortunate to have many volunteers willing to step in at the last minute this summer. We greatly appreciate those volunteers who are able to help out with an extra shift here and there to cover for those who are sick and unable to deliver. Please feel free to give us a call to update your availability if there have been changes in your schedule. Finally, on behalf of the Health and Home Care Society of BC, I would like to express sincere gratitude and warm wishes for a healthy and happy holiday season. All the best in the New Year! Vicki

We have had many new volunteers start this summer but a few volunteers have had to retire, relocate or are unable to continue. We are grateful for their support and wish them all the best in their new adventures ahead. Please join us in welcoming our new volunteers.

「家庭暫託中心」新訊息

年， 於 開辦「家庭暫托中心」，我們是加拿大首個獨

立、專誠、以服務社區為基礎的家庭暫托中心。服務對象主要是一些於精神及健康上需

要支援的長者 患者，透過不同的閒娛活動，增強精神及身體健康，同時我們提供一個

像家的感覺舒適環境來幫助他們保持身心健康。由於近年需求大增，我們計劃將服務擴

展到溫哥華北岸並建立第二個「家庭暫託中心」。

降雪預備計劃

記得去年冬天下雪的惡劣天氣，感謝所有義工的努力，我們只取消了一天的服務。為

迎接冬季的來臨讓，讓我們提早做好準備。準備好儲備鹽及換上防滑冬季輪胎。

我們仍然會送餐到一些沒有準備食物的獨居老人

如果您不確定當天送餐服務是否正常運作，請聯繫我們辦公室。若你感覺在雪地行車

不安全，都盡快致電辦公室。留下您的姓名，電話號碼和您開車的區域。這些下雪的

日子是非常繁忙的，請清楚留下您的信息。

如你有信心在雪地行車，請告知我們。我們將準備一張降雪行車義工名單作緊急用

途。

Kevin and I (Vicki) attended the “Lifetime Talks + Tables event” at Van Dusen Gardens, presented by the Vancouver Courier on Sept. 20th. We were there to promote the Meals on Wheels program as well as to recruit new volunteers. We heard so many kind words and compliments that day from the community – both about the program and our volunteers. THE COMMUNITY THANKS YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

We all remember the daunting weather we had last winter. Thanks to all our dedicated volunteers we only cancelled one day of service. Let’s be ahead of the game this year and get winter ready. Remember to stock up on salt and have your winter tires ready. In the event of snowfall:

Listen to the radio/TV in the morning (CKNW, NEWS 1130, CBC Radio one, Fairchild Radio, Global BCTV and City TV). We will inform the media in the event of a cancellation.

We will call all volunteers and clients in the event of a closure.

We will deliver food to any client who has nothing to eat.

If you are unsure if Meals on Wheels is running on that day, give the office a call. For those Meals on Wheels volunteers who cannot drive in the snow, or feel unsafe doing so, please call the office as soon as possible. Leave your name, phone number and the area you drive in. The phones will be very busy on these days, so please leave your message clearly. Volunteers who are confident driving in the snow, please let us know. We will be compiling a list of volunteers, who are able to pick up extra routes.

Food Safe 食物安全

儘管我們送餐義工沒有參與準備食物的過程，但緊記食物安全是很重要的。 因

為我們正在參與提供食物的工作。

適當的洗手技術可以防止食源性疾病的傳播。

使用洗手間後請洗手

撫摸寵物後洗手

用溫肥皂水洗手至少 20 秒鐘。

如果沒有肥皂和水，可以使用手擦消毒劑。

如果客戶不在家，不要把餐食留給客戶

Flu Season

Although our volunteers are not involved in food preparation, it is always important to keep in mind these FoodSafe practices; as we are serving/delivering food.

Proper hand washing technique can prevent the spread of foodborne illness.

Wash your hands after using the washroom.

Wash your hands after touching pets.

Wash your hands with warm, soapy water for at least 20 seconds.

A hand-rub sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.

Bacteria can grow rapidly when food is left in the danger temperature zone for more than 2 hours.

Do not leave meal out for client if client is not home.

It is also important to keep our equipment clean.

Do not leave meals in the bags after your delivery. If you have extra meals, call our office immediately – we will discuss what to do with the meals.

Please clean out the bags and soup trays with the disinfectant wipes provided at the depots at the end of your route.
