SeptemberSpecial Olympics The upcoming sport for Special Olympics is Bowling. The parent meeting will be held on Sep. 5 at 5 p.m. at Bowl Arena Lanes (Lewis Main). Practices are Mon. and Wed. from 5-7 p.m., beginning Sep. 8, the season ends Oct. 26.

SKIES Registration Monday, Sep. 1- 26 Parent Central Services, Lewis Main & McChord Field to register for October SKIES classes. Registration for classes is the first Monday through the fourth Friday of the previous month. The official start of the 7th Annual Exceptional Family

Member Program (EFMP) Camp “Superheroes of American Lake” Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) began on Friday, August 8 at 1600 at the Northwest Adventure Cen-ter. Overnight campers signed in and received a bag of goodies that included Girl Scout Cookies and a list of “must finds” for a group scav-enger hunt. Radio Disney provided the evening’s entertainment that was described as “absolutely awesome”!

Stacie Pogoncheff and Timmy Milligan (parent volunteers) were our Camp Coordinators along with Sam Rivera, Blagoy Pogoncheff,

Sponsors for this year’s camp in-cluded USAA, Equity Residential, and Armed Forces Bank; Donations from PAVE and the Combined Fed-eral Campaign provided additional financial support. This year’s Camp entertained 67 overnight guests and 215 day campers.EFMP Camp JBLM, established in 2008, was created through Gar-rison Mission Essential Task #5 to support Servicemembers and their Family members with special needs. The camp provides a safe, friendly,

Saturday’s activities began at 0900 with perfect weather and offered Pontoon rides, a Bounce house, Fishing, Bingo, Arts & Crafts, an Obstacle Course, Face Painting/tat-toos, Family Photos, Raffles on the half hour and visits from McGruff the Crime Dog and Super Why! The USO Mobile Canteen provided lunch. Day camp drew to a close at 1600 and it was “back to the NAC” for the

overnight campers. Family games and s’mores rounded out the eve-ning. On Sunday morning, Fami-lies were treated to a pancake and sausage breakfast, prepared by our volunteer cooks. All in all, we had a pretty amazing weekend with our Families and vol-unteer support staff (some of whom have already committed to our camp for next year)!! Mark your calendars now and plan to join us for the 8th annual EFMP Camp scheduled for August 21st through the 23rd 2015.

individualized Education ProgramsAn IEP is a specially designed program that addresses the needs of any child who receives special education and related services.

The IEP creates an opportunity for parents, teachers, and support staff to work together on the student’s behalf.

The IEP must cover current performance, annual goals, and accommodations. It is a compliance document as well as an evaluation device to determine a student’s progress.If you are new to the JBLM area or have a new IEP and would like someone to work with you and your IEP team or to advocate on behalf of you and your student, contact the Exceptional Family Member Program at Armed Forces Community Service in Waller Hall, room 400 or call us at 253-967-9704/9097/5795 to request assistance through our Systems Navigators.

EFMP Enrollment Process

Support Groups for You & Yours

If your Family member has a health condi-tion that necessitates a specialist or spe-cialty clinic, he or she MUST be enrolled in EFMP under medical, DD Form 2792. If your child has an IEP (Individualized Education Program) or 504 plan, he or she must be enrolled in EFMP under educa-tion, DD Form 2792-1. Enrollment forms for EFMP are renewed every three years or sooner, if there are significant changes.

Disenrollment is not automatic upon expi-ration; it is required for a change in marital status or a significant improvement that no longer warrants enrollment.

Army — Submit your completed enroll-ment forms to the EFMP office located in the Madigan Nursing Tower, on the first floor, left side, just past the chapel, room 1-28-17. For questions regarding enroll-ment or overseas screenings, please call 253-968-0254/1370/4355. This office is closed on Thursdays.

Air Force — Submit your completed enrollment forms to the SNC office 62nd Medical Clinic, first floor of Airman’s Clinic Bioenvironmental hallway, second/third office on left. For a PCS screening or for questions call SSGT Michelle Sutton at 253-982-3350. Lois Fisher is the Special Needs Coordinator at 253-982-5568. Open Monday, Tuesday, Friday 0800-1530; Wednesday 0800-1100. Closed 2nd Tues-day 1200 – 1530; Closed on Thursday. For Air Force Respite Care, contact the Ser-vicemember & Family Readiness Center at 253-982-2695.
