Week by Week through The Year of Mercy

Jubilee of Marian Devotion, this weekend, the Jubilee honors

Mary under the title Pope Francis suggests, “Mother of Mer-

cy”. Recall the Good Samaritan Gospel. Priest and Levite saw

suffering but showed no mercy. Recall the rich man, who

never saw Lazarus right before his eyes, and showed no mer-

cy. Today, Jesus sees ten lepers from afar and shows ex-

traordinary mercy. Mary’s entire life, declares Francis,

was modeled on Jesus, “Mercy-Made-Flesh”. Indeed,

standing at the cross, Mary saw Jesus’, mercy take

flesh when Jesus showed mercy to the executioners.

So Pope Francis recommends we frequently pray

the Salve Regina, Hail, Holy Queen, asking her to

ever look upon us with mercy, so that we might be

worth to gaze upon the face of her merciful Son

Jesus. May we do so not only in eternity, but here

and now, opening our eyes to see Jesus in others, and

our hearts to serve Jesus in others by loving deed of

unconditional mercy.

Semana tras semana durante el Año de la Mesericordia

Jubileo de la Devoción Mariana, este fin de semana, el jubileo honora

a María bajo el titulo que el Papa Francisco sugirió “Madre de la Mi-

sericordia”. Recuerda la historia del Buen Samaritano, el sacerdote y

el levita no mostraron misericordia. Recuerda la historia del hombre

rico que nunca vio a Lázaro que estaba a la vista de sus ojos y tampo-

co mostro misericordia. Hoy Jesús mira de lejos a diez leprosos y

muestra una extraordinaria misericordia. El Papa Francisco dice

que la vida de María moldeo la vida de Jesús, la “misericordia

-hecha-carne”. De hecho, la pie de la cruz, María vio la misericordia de Jesús hacerse carne cuando Jesús mostro

misericordia a los soldados que lo estaban crucificando

por lo que el Papa Francisco nos recomienda que recemos

frecuentemente la oración del Salve Regina (La salve)

pidiéndole que nos mire con misericordia, para que poda-

mos ser dignos contemplar el rostro de su Hijo Jesús. Que

no lo hagamos solo en la vida eterna, sino aquí y ahora,

abriendo nuestros ojos para ver a Jesús en nuestros prójimos

y nuestros corazones para servir a Jesús en los prójimos con

obras de misericordia de amor incondicional.

Knight of Columbus: The fund-raising event for our local Lompoc

Special Olympics program will be held this

Friday and Saturday, 14 and 15 October at

six venues in Lompoc. We will be offering

Tootsie Roll candy and asking for donations to support

their athletes. Please look for us wearing our distinctive

vests during the hours of 10 AM- 6 PM. We thank you in

Brothers Victor, William, and Niko have started their

studies at Berkeley in theology and philosophy. They

have received our Council’s financial support for the

Did you know? Avoid “fixing” and try to listen and understand Sometimes adults may have a tendency to try

and fix problems that come up with their chil-

dren. While the instinct to help and the loving

concern behind it is understandable, it is not always the best

course of action if the child is not learning something about

how to handle a problem at least partly on their own. For some

problems, children just need a good listener; for others they

need guidance and help discerning how best to respond. Try

asking questions, encouraging solutions, and praying with and

Octubre: Mes del Rosario La Iglesia ha dedicado un mes, el de Octubre, para honrar

a María con el rezo del Santo Rosario.

La palabra Rosario significa "Corona de Rosas". Nuestra

Señora ha revelado a varias personas que cada vez que dicen

el Ave María le están dando a Ella una hermosa rosa y que

cada Rosario completo le hace una corona de rosas. La rosa

es la reina de las flores, y así el Rosario es la rosa de todas las

devociones, y por ello la mas importante de todas.

El Rosario esta compuesto de dos elementos: oración mental

y oración verbal.

En el Santo Rosario la oración mental no es otra cosa que la

meditación sobre los principales misterios o hechos de la

vida, muerte y gloria de Jesucristo y de su Santísima Madre.

Estos veinte misterios se han dividido en cuatro grupos:

Gozosos, Luminosos, Dolorosos y Gloriosos.

La oración verbal consiste en recitar quince decenas (Rosario

completo) o cinco decenas del Ave María, cada decena en-

cabezada por un Padre Nuestro, mientras meditamos sobre

los misterios del Rosario.
