WHAT ARE PACS? Groups of likeminded individuals pooling their financial resources to

support a common cause or set of priorities: companies, trade associations, unions, etc.

PACs provide an additional tool to leverage political engagement by supporting candidates who support the policies that encourage prosperity and growth for your organization/industry

Contributions go to candidates who are committed to sound and reasonable legislative and regulatory approaches to business issues, and are receptive to hearing and considering perspectives on issues that may impact your business

A PAC contribution sends a strong, collective message that your members and stakeholders have an interest in the future of their industry

PACs should be non-partisan and support candidates who are willing to hear information on the challenges and concerns your industry faces

CORPORATE DONATIONS TO 501 (c) ORGANIZATIONS

Not usually publicly disclosed

Shareholder groups have applied increasing pressure on companies to self-disclose donations to 501(c) organizations

Investigative reporters/good government groups that learn donor identities that are not self-disclosed often generate controversy

YOUR OWN SUPER PAC?What are your political goals?

What is your organization’s structure?

What is your organization’s culture?

Can you fund it?

OUTSIDE THE BOXHiring a firm to assist you in the following:

Hold Fundraisers. Host events for Members of Congress who have jurisdiction on issues of importance to your industry

Improve your “brand”. Strategically target Members of both parties

Supplement your political contributions. Hosting events that can raise significant funds for targeted Members will have a greater affect in relationship building then simply cutting one check

Get out of the fundraising business. Spend more time lobbying and less time raising funds
