Aſter earning a 2-2 overme e against the Pioneers on Saturday, the Soaring Eagles rallied from a one-goal third-period deficit to earn a 3-2 overme win. Carter Shinkaruk ’16 scored his team-leading 18th goal of the season, un- assisted, with 3:55 remaining in the third period to force an extra five-minute session. In the overme period, Uca’s Hayden Hanson was called for a tripping penalty at the 3:22 mark, seng up an Elmira penalty shot. Senior captain Brian Depp ’16 produced the game-winner on the penalty shot with a rocket that beat UC’s netminder pad-side, sending the crowd into a frenzy as the bench cleared to mob Depp. Overtime Games Galore Of Elmira’s 23 games this season, eight have gone into overme, the most over- me games played by the Purple and Gold in over 16 years. The Soaring Eagles have seen five of their last seven games go into overme, including their last three contests. Elmira is 2-1-2 in those overme contests. Career Night for the Swiss First-year netminder Sandro Aeschlimann ’19 connued to be a force for the Soaring Eagles between the pipes over the weekend, as the Switzerland nave produced a total of 78 saves and a 1-0-1 record. He made a career-high 54 saves in Saturday’s 2-2 overme e, which included a 21-save third period. The follow- ing night saw Aeschlimann turn away 24 shots in a one-goal overme victory. Big Goal Depper Senior captain Brian Depp ’16 has been known for scoring big goals for the Soar- ing Eagles throughout his career, but Saturday night saw the Fenton, MI, nave do something truly special. Depp scored the game-winning goal on Senior Night on a penalty shot in overme, his fourth game-winner of the season. It was the first game-winning goal scored in overme by a Soaring Eagle in over 16 years. Addionally, his four game-winners this season are the most in the ECAC West and place him in a e for fourth place in the country in game-winning goals. Shinkaruk Back on Track Carter Shinkaruk ’16 tallied an unassisted goal in Elmira’s 3-2 overme win against Uca, which put an end to a four-game goalless streak. The Langley, BC, product owns the naon’s second-highest goals per game average at 0.86. Elmira will hope for more producon from the senior forward, as the Soaring Eagles are 9-4-1 when he tallies at least one point; EC is 0-5-2 in games in which Shinkaruk has skated but did not register a point. Last Matchup Manhaanville edged Elmira in the most recent matchup this season, one that saw the Valiants win 5-4 in overme on, oddly enough, a penalty shot with 1.2 seconds remaining in the extra session. Elmira held one-goal leads early in the first and second periods, but was unable to hang on, as the Valiants took advan- tage of a pair of power-play chances. Manhaanville went 2-for-7 with the extra skater, scoring twice during its first five chances. Scouting Manhattanville With just two conference games remaining on its schedule, Manhaanville will look to hold onto its seat as the ECAC West’s second-ranked team. The Valiants hold a slim one-point lead in the conference standings on Uca, but one win in their final two games would solidify Manhaanville as the No. 2 seed in the ECAC West Tournament. Manhaanville’s record stands even at 11-11-1 on the year, but the Valiants have struggled as of late, going 1-3 in their last four games and 3-7 in their last 10. The Valiants have surrendered 15 goals in their last four contests for a per game average of 3.75 and are allowing power-play goals at a .211-percent clip, which is slightly higher than their season average of .184. In order for Manhaanville to get back to its winning ways, the team will need its leading scorer, Stephen Gaul, to get back on track. Gaul leads the Valiants with 12 goals, but has scored just once in the team’s last four games.
