“But do you have experience?” You can

count on this question during your first job

interview — and every other one

thereafter. Your answer will start with one

word, “Yes,” because you will get lots of

practical experience in the working world

through the College’s extensive internship

program. In most Endicott programs, you

will spend your first two January terms

working at internship sites where you apply

what you have learned in the classroom.

During your senior year, you will spend an

entire semester on an internship

assignment. You will gain more than

practical experience and the ability to say

“Yes” to an interviewer’s favorite question.

You’ll acquire a better sense of yourself as

a person and as a professional. To see how

internships can change lives, read the

stories that follow . . .

Jeremy and Jonathan Morgan, Class of 2015, have a lot in common. They both play lacrosse, theyare both majoring in criminal justice, and they are twins. The brothers from Long Island, New Yorksay they were drawn to Endicott not only because of the lacrosse program but also because of theinternship program. “We believe that a high percentage of graduates will receive a career positionbecause of the internships and experiences they have at Endicott.” For their first internship, thebrothers worked with the Malverne Police Department. “Our coursework gave us a goodbackground in the field of criminal justice, and the internship really opened our eyes to the dailylife of a police officer,” says Jonathan. For future internships they plan to explore other aspects ofthe field, and they have chosen to pursue Endicott’s Homeland Security Studies minor.

INTERNSHIP Kaitlin says she appreciates theopportunities her clinical rotationsprovided her. “I’m a hands‐onlearner, so the clinical experiencesreally helped to strengthen what Ilearned through my coursework. Both sites welcomed students, and the nurses we worked withwere great.”

At Essex Park RehabilitationCenter, Kaitlin worked on thegeriatric rehabilitation floor, andher medical/surgical rotation atthe Lahey Clinc allowed her tofocus on neuroscience. “We wereassigned patients each day, andworking with nurses we did head‐to‐toe assessments, conductedresearch, and provided care.”

She says, “Every semester isdifferent, and I’m looking forwardto a maternity rotation at AnnaJacques and a pediatrics rotationat Boston Medical Center. Rightnow, I think I’d like to work inlabor and delivery or in the neo‐natal ICU, but I’m sure my clinicalswill help me with my choice. I alsoplan to apply to Endicott’s FifthYear Nursing Program, to earn aMaster’s degree in nursingeducation.

Every clinical experiencecorresponds to a series ofnursing courses, and theyreally help us cover it all. Theclassroom and the clinicalsdefinitely go hand in hand.

INTERNSHIP Brooke chose Endicott for somevery specific reasons. She says,“I was looking for a college witha strong hospitality program, and when I heard about theinternship program, I waspositive that Endicott was theplace for me.”

For her first internship at theCape Arundel Golf Club, she wastasked with planning a golftournament, and she credits hercoursework for giving her theability to take the necessarysteps in coordinating the event.

For her second internship at theGreen Heron Inn, she worked asfront desk manager while theInn was undergoing majorrenovations. She notes, “I havelearned to accommodatepeople during stressful and busytimes, and this knowledge istruly something you could onlyobtain through experience.”Her supervisor at the Inn was anEndicott alumnus. “He gave methe freedom to explore manyoptions, because he understoodwhat Endicott students can do!”

The chief benefit ofinternship is experience. It isthat simple. You get toactually try what you thinkyou want to do as a living. Notmany students get thatoption before graduation.Endicott students get it threetimes.
