The men’s volleyball team had their most successful season to-date in 2010, recording a program-best in wins with 28, while winning the Northeast Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England title for the second consecutive year. Under eleventh year head coach Tim Byram, the Gulls look to vie for another divisional crown with a fresh-faced group of players eager to build on Endicott’s recent years of success.

It is true that with the graduation of five seniors, including four start-ers, Endicott’s recipe for success will have to be made in a new and creative ways. Seven freshman and two sophomore transfers, however, will guarantee that Coach Byram will have enough pieces of the puzzle to attain his third straight 20-plus win season.

Senior outside hitter Zeke Kubisch (Bethlehem, N.Y.), who started 24 of his 36 matches played in 2010, will be relied upon to provide leadership on the court for the nine newcomers. Kubisch recorded 196 kills last sea-son, his highest total since his 238 kill effort freshman year. The senior’s value will most certainly come from his ability to set up the offense with efficient passing (.960 reception percentage), the ability to block at the net (38 total blocks), and tough serving (30 aces).

Two juniors will look to make a significant jump in contribution and fill in holes left by players who graduated last year. Outside hit-ter Jeremy Siden (Natick, Mass.), Endicott’s most improved following fall ball practices and competition, along with Kubisch will try to replace NECVA NE First Teamer John Emery. Siden’s 152 kills, 73 digs, 22 aces, and 27 blocks off the bench will undoubtedly increase with additional playing time in 2011. Josh Bruno (Andover, Mass.) has possibly the biggest shoes to fill as he played

behind the NECVA NE Player of the Year A.J. Witkofky and Second Team honoree James Sliva the past two seasons. Bruno, however, has shown his potential already with a team-best .415 hit percentage in 2010. He added 28 blocks in just 28 sets played.

Junior Jeremy Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) takes over as the team’s setter this January after backing up Ben Foster, a NECVA NE Second Team player in 2010. Schlosser averaged 3.66 assists per set last season, totaling 245 in 67 sets played. Coach Byram is confident that the hard-working Schlosser will raise his level of competition in a full-time role.

Other returning players include junior Andrew Slocum (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and senior DJ Olson (Chelms-ford, Mass.) who will contribute towards Endicott’s defensive needs. The duo combined for 268 digs and 4.23 digs per set.

Looking at some of the freshman new to the men’s volleyball program, Josh Anderson (La Canada, Calif.) should compete for playing time on the right side with sophomore Matt Devendorf (Glastonbury, Conn.). Devendorf in 70 sets played had 108 kills and 36 total blocks. Travis Netherton (Waukegan, Ill.), Mike Coniglione (Glenville, N.Y.), and Brandon Chadwick (Chelmsford, Mass.) all create depth in the middle. Aaron Jessee (Okinawa, Japan), Jordan Ingerick (Fairport, N.Y.) and Carter Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) will factor into Endicott’s defensive efforts with Roche adding value as a backup setter.

Endicott’s two sophomore trans-fers Kevin Duggan (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Brennan Lowe (Malibu, Calif.) will add to the Gulls’ depth at outside hitter.

Coach Byram expects that through-out the year, all of his players will make significant improvements

and team chemistry will build as the new play-ers begin to mesh with the veterans. Endicott’s campaign towards a third NECVA NE title includes two tournaments brand new to the schedule in the Rivier Tournament from January 15-16 and the MIT Tournament on March 4-5. The Gulls will again host their Endicott Invitational on February 12-13. The team’s NECVA NE schedule features key matchups against MIT on February 8 and March 10 as well as against Newbury February 15 and March 22. Endicott’s top non-conference opponents include a bout against Harvard on January 28 and SUNY New Paltz on February 25. The Blue and Green will also face Emmanuel and Baruch in a trimatch in Boston on March 19. All roads, however, lead to the NECVA Tournament which will be held this year at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.Y. from April 1-3.

Timothy Byram - Head CoachTim Byram has served as the head coach for both the men’s and women’s volleyball programs at Endicott since

the 1999-2000 season. Over his eleven years as a women’s coach, Byram’s programs have enjoyed both team and individual successes. Under Byram’s helm, the Gulls have compiled an overall record of 200-148 (.575) and a con-ference record of 74-17 (.813). The Blue and Green have made six consecutive post season appearances (NCAA’s in ’04, ’06, ’07, ’08 and ECAC’s in ’05 and ’09) while claiming three consecutive and four of the last six TCCC Cham-pionships. His players have combined to earn numerous Player or Rookie of the Week Honors, two Conference Rookie of the Year Honors, one Conference Player of the Year, 36 All-Conference Team members, three AVCA All-Region and one Second Team All-American Honors.

In 2008, his Endicott squad claimed their first back-to-back-to-back The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) title(s) while making their fifth consecutive appearance in the TCCC Finals. The Gulls posted an overall record of 24-15 while going 10-0 in conference play, eventually resulting in a fourth NCAA appearance in the

past five years. The team had a record five players earn TCCC honors with Hayley Janelle (1st) , Brittany Nolan (1st and Libero of the year), Stephanie Wiese (1st), Brittany Phillips (2nd), and Elyse Barbour (3rd) all recognized.

In ten seasons as a men’s coach at Endicott, his teams have amassed an overall record of 178-135 (.569) and a conference record of 106-36 (.746). Byram’s teams have made seven playoff appearances in the NECVA Championships and qualified for postseason play in the ECAC Championships in 2004, ’05, ’07, ’08 and ’09. His players have combined to earn numerous Player or Rookie of the Week Honors, two NECVA New England Player of the Year, one NECVA New England Libero of the Year, one NECVA New England Rookie of the Year, 24 All-Conference Team members, four AVCA Second Team All-American (Jeremy Fontaine ’04, ’05 and AJ Witkofsky ’08, ’09) and three AVCA First Team All-American Honors (Dan Coleman ’06, ’08, ’09).

During the 2010 season, the team claimed their second NECVA New England division title going 15-1 in division play and 28-8 overall. The team advanced to the NECVA Tournament where they defeated Emmanuel College before falling to Philadelphia Biblical University who eventually reached the championship match. The team had four players earn NECVA New England honors with A.J. Witkofsky, John Emery, James Silva, and Ben Foster all picking up hardware. Witkofsky was also honored as the New England division Player of the Year.

A 1994 graduate of the University of Maine-Farmington, Byram earned MAC and NAIA Regional Coach of the Year honors while coach-ing the Beavers as a senior. As an assistant at St. Joseph’s College in 1996-97, he helped the Monks capture their first-ever Maine Athletic Conference title. In 1999, serving as the Interim Head Coach at Bates College, Byram led the Bobcats to a 33-6 record and an ECAC Champi-onship. Coach Byram has 18 seasons of head coaching experience between Women’s and Men’s Volleyball at the college level.

Coach Byram has been an active volleyball player throughout New England. Serving as an assistant coach, his regional club teams have won multiple regional championships and competed at the national championships three times. Byram has also been honored by being

named the Head Coach of the 2002-2007 New England Youth High Performance Teams.
