ENDOW is the official magazine of the Women’s Department MSFEJ COGIC. A prominent frontline resource in the call to empower holy women for holy living, this platform highlights the activated vision of the Women’s Department.

Throughout this message of hope resonates through Christendom with love and kindness. Imparting the necessity of LOVE, it is unequivocal-ly the standard of holiness and sanctification. Waving high is a ban-ner of unconditional compassion. God sets forth this as the measure of LOVE that we must show forth to others. People of God I adjure you to love, unconditionally. If we say that we are of God, and love not, then we are not truth-tellers, and not of God.In this season, I admonish you as lovely ladies of the lord to empower one another through love, prayer, and fasting. Embody the character-istics of Christ both personally and professionally so that your light will draw others to Christ in love and without dissimulation.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoi-ceth in the truth; Beareth all things, beliveth all things, hopeth all things, en-dureth all things. 1 Corinthinans 13:4-7, Love ye one another, for God is Love.

As a natural pearl begins its life inside an oyster's shell when an intruder, such as a grain of sand or bit of floating food, slips in between one of the two shells of the oyster. In order to protect itself from irritation, the oyster will quickly begin covering the uninvited visitor with layers of nacre — the mineral substance that fashions the mollusk's shells. Layer upon layer of nacre, also known as mother-of-pearl, coat the grain of sand until the iridescent gem is formed. (This process is also commercialized, where oysters are injected with sand, etc to produce the same effect, a cultured pearl).

Editorial

Just as the oyster has a mechanism to protect against adversity, God protects us from adver-sities and obstacles, turning them into “good” (Romans 8:28).Joseph can testify (Genesis 37: 18-36), what the enemy meant for evil, God turned it around for good. Just as the potter molds the clay, and the refiner purifies gold through the fire, adversities yield results that are pure and flawless.

These processes of transformation and transitions are not always complimentary, or without pain and sacrifice. However, God is in control and like the oyster, he continues to cover us with love, gives us discernment

through his spirit, power to rise above the problems, and soar into victory.

Now comes the birth of the Endow Magazine. Envisioned out of a burden to empower the women of God through love, with an increased desire to live holy and mission minded; yielding the fruit of the spirit (But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law - Galatians 5:22-23). And now we render to you the tools to grow in the power of God through the Holy Ghost.

Women’s Unity Meeting 2015 As always. a motivational and encouraging address to all delegates. “Remain steadfast within the boundaries of holiness.” Mother Murray spoke words of wisdom to the married ladies to remain faithful in all fashions of their daily walk. She reminded the widowed and singles to hold high the banner of holiness so that it continues to invoke the glory of God. She showed great passion for the work of the cross, that we should be leaders in the highways and bi-ways, compelling men to come to Christ.

Setting the example, the District Missionaries worked in groups to ensure spiritual and informative classes. Developed with care and highlighted with the corresponding theme of love, these anointed women of God imparted wisdom on lov-ing unconditionally, just as God did with the giving of his son, Jesus for the redemption of man.

The men’s workshop, facilitated by Elder Billy Brown, focused on health awareness. It included information on a range of health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, and prostate cancer.

Operation One Million“DELAYED BUT NOT DENIED”, and NOT DEFEATED.

We are moving forward with the vision for the jurisdiction.

The word of God states, that we must be concerned about the house of God. Hag 1:4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses,

and this house lie waste? What is our answer?

Pulling into the east and west parking lots of our jurisdictional headquarters, an overwhelming feeling of shame and embarrasment lay upon my heart. Almost immediately, the words of Haggai, the prophet, ring in my spirit, “Is it time for you, O ye to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?”. Remember-ing the years where I would hope that the buildings occupying the remainder of the west parking lot block were removed, now reveal the manifestation of answered prayers; they are no longer there, yet this house lies in waste. The lot is unkempt and admist the complaints of inadequate parking during our jurisdictional assem-blies, it is a grave annoyance. As the prophet Haggai gave the word of the Lord to the remnant in Jerusalem, so has this word been given to me (Haggai 1:1-4). Seeking guidance in how to move forth in restoring “these walls”, I began to pray. With the answer in hand and the

support of our jurisdictional prelate, Bishop Hollis Musgrove, we are moving forward. Operation One Million is the collective effort of the jurisdiction: every church, mem-ber, man, woman and child to gather together in rebuilding this house of God. Divided into phases, our initial mission is to pave the park-ing lots and beautify the grounds. Kicking off this campaign is the Operation One Million Age Rally. It is an event that allows everyone to participate in giving at their respective age levels ($1.00 per each year ex: age=20; donation amount $20.00). The Shivers McAdory Murray Foundation has been established as the solictor for this project. Just as I am, these anointed women of God, held positions as the supervisors for this great jurisdiction. (Mother Ruthie Shivers, Mother R V McAdory, and myself). They also shared visions of greatness for our church. We will honor them through this foundation that will receive funds to enhance the work. |ENDOW|

ENDOW: We are extremely excited and proud to have another one of our own representing the Jurisdiction on the national platform. As the newly appointed International Purity Department Assistant President, how has this impacted your life and what are your goals?DR. PLAIR: The appointment is one that I am humbled by. I am elated to have been given an opportunity to serve in this capacity. It is not something that I can say I worked to obtain, in that it was not my intentional goal, but I am deeply honored that my labor has afforded me this platform. I look forward to doing even greater things in the national department with an even greater impact. My goals are to strengthen the programs that are currently in place in an effective effort to propel our youth both spiritually and educationally. ENDOW: You have served faithfully as our Ju-risdictional Purity Lady and have done an awe-some job in helping to continue the work of this ministry. What is the vision for the Jurisdiction Purity Department? DR. PLAIR: Working in the department for many years allowed me to experience first-hand the things that worked and those that needed to

be strengthened. The vision therefore is and has always been an extension of our national church. We are to empower and equip our youth to become well-rounded and balanced individuals whose lives are dedicated to living a saved and sanctified life-style.ENDOW: What words would you give to today’s Puritans?DR. PLAIR: Our youth of today need encourage-ment through a variety of resources and forums that resonate the message of hope. With every encoun-ter, I have a personal mission to spread the mes-sage to never give up. It is carried over platforms concerning their education, their ambitions, and their commitment to living a holy lifestyle. I want the Puritans to always be encouraged; to understand that trials come and it’s not always easy, but that’s what makes the reward greater and in due time you will see God manifest himself.

From Puritan to Trailblazer, district, jurisdiction and international platforms, Dr. Bridget Plair has dedicated over 55 years of servitude to the mission of providing a wholesome environment for youth development. She embraces this newly appointed role with humbleness, honor, and humility.

19th Annual Women’s Conference Held May 16, 2015 - Dillon Hill COGIC, Tylertown, MS

The anointing filled the atmosphere

as the Region 4 Women’s Choir sang,

and the awe-inspiring testimony of

Mother Betty Franklin (District 5 First

Lady) moved the congregation to tears

of joy and gladness. She testified of her

health challenge and the doctors’ diag-

nosis of her future physical condition as

bedridden. Her unwavering faith in God

as a healer empowered her consistent

request for a wheel chair. In spite of the

diagnosis that she would be confined

to a bed; she attended this year’s con-

ference manuevering the wheel chair,

herself, to the front of the church to give

her testimony.

Afterwards the choir rendered a song

of praise, leading the way to the Love

Showers March. Missionaries, laity la-

dies, and department leaders marched to

the tune of “This is the Church of God In

Christ”, excited and exuberantly holding

high our Women’s Department banner.

Guest Speaker, District Missionary

Erma Brent (McComb District Mis-

sissippi Second Southern Jurisdiction)

gave the unadulterated word of God.

She admonished the lovely ladies of the Lord to

hold fast to holiness; love without dissimulation,

and keep the unity of the spirit of God. She left

no stones unturned as she inspired and motivated

everyone.

Remarks were given by the honoree, Mother

Frankie Davis Murray, Supervisor. She thanked

everyone for their sacrifice and poured from her

heart a vision for the jurisdictional headquarters.

Everyone was very receptive and cheered her on

in this dynamic move of God, for the jurisdiction.

Ending this event could not have been more

elegant than entering into the dining room for the

feast. Decorated in conference colors, yellow and

white, pictures alone could not do justice to this

Elders and Ministers Wives are servants of the local church and are strong supporters of the ministry. They are an example for laywomen in following the teaching of holiness, modesty of dress, and always display a meek and humble spirit. They also take on the spirit of evangelism in the event that their husband’s ministry leads to the evangelist f ield. Under the leadership of Jurisdiction President, Missionary Linda Winn, the women of this ministry are given a platform of fellowship, prayer, and encouragement to carry out their committment to Christ’s extreme sacrif ice.

What does it mean to be “sanctified”?Sanctification is the process of allowing the holy character of God to be manifested in the behavior of regenerated men.

-James A. Fowler-

According to scripture, to be sanctified means

“to be set apart” from sin to righteousness (2 Cor-

inthians 6: 14-18). It is the internal transformation

of one’s character to that of the character of Christ.

This transformation is now reflected in our outward

appearance not only in character but deeds and ac-

tions.

In order to be “set apart” sanctified, we must rec-

ognize, cleanliness, holiness, or living free from

sin. Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of

the law of God. 1Jn 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin

transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgres-

sion of the law. For the sake of not delving into a

theological discussion about the levels of sin, we

will leave the definition as such.

When one is set apart from sin they are in the per-

petual process of sanctification. Sanctification is a

continual process that conforms us into the image

of the Son of God 1Co 6:11 And such were some of

you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye

are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by

the Spirit of our God. This rings true for us as saints

of God; Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he

also did predestinate to be conformed to the image

of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among

many brethren.

Col 3:10 states, And have put on the new man,

which is renewed in knowledge after the image of

him that created him: “put on the new man who is

renewed in knowledge according to the image

of Him who created him.” Therefore we must

equate living sanctified with living free from

transgressing the law of God.

There is much confusion concerning holiness,

righteousness, entire sanctification and victory

over sin. The confusion stems from the fact that

many professing to be saints have been indoc-

trinated with false doctrines. They have been

told lies about what God expects from His peo-

ple and what God's power can do in the life of a

true believer. Many of those who fill the church

each week are presented with a self-defeating

message that they need to be free from sin But

they are told that achieving true godliness,

holiness, righteousness or sanctification here

on earth is an impossibility. People are told that

Page 19: ENDOW Magazine

ENDOW 19

What does it mean to be “sanctified”?Sanctification is the process of allowing the holy character of God to be manifested in the behavior of regenerated men.

-James A. Fowler-

“For this is the will of God even your sanctification. That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctifica-tion and honour.” I Thessalonians 4:3-4 “Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil.” Isaiah 1:16 .

• We attain sanctifi-cation through pre-senting our members as servants (literally slaves) to righteous-ness and becoming ourselves bondser-vants unto Christ.

• Sanctification follows justification. In justi-fication our sins are completely forgiven in Christ.

• Sanctification is the process by which the Holy Spirit makes us more like Christ in all that we do, think and desire.

• True sanctification is impossible apart from the atoning work of Christ on the cross because only after our sins are forgiven can we begin to lead a holy life.

COCIC International Basic Training Manual

Christ has made them a new creation, and

yet they are told they will continue to sin

until they die. However, according to the

Scriptures true believers are empowered by

God to live a life of true holiness, free of

sin. Below, we will examine what the Bible

says about holiness, righteousness, and

sanctification of a true believer.

Holiness, righteousness or sanctification

does NOT rely on human works.

Make no mistake, we are saved by grace

through faith. Often, when the truth is

preached about living a truly holy life free

from all sin, the preacher is accused of

“legalism” or a doctrine of “salvation by

works.” This is NOT what we believe.

We believe the Bible when it says that we

are saved by grace apart from our own

works (Eph. 2:8-9), while at the same time,

“faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by

action, is dead” (James 2:17) because true

saving faith produces fruit of righteousness.

If we are righteous it is not of our own

power or godliness, but it is because Christ

makes us a new creation. “Therefore, if any

man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old

things are passed away; behold, all things

are become new” (II Cor. 5:17).

God makes us a new creature and ALL

things are new. |ENDOW|

Superintendent Ozell Coburn

Superintendent Ozell Coburn was born in Winston County, Mississippi on November 17, 1938, to the late Elbert and Estella Coburn. He received his educa-tion at Noxapater Vocational H.S., where he graduated April 23, 1959. His life’s journey moved him from his roots at the Center Ridge M.B. Church of Louisville, MS at an early age to the Center Hill Church of God in Christ, pastored by the late Elder G.W. Harris; later under the leadership of the late Su-perintendent Isaac Harris. He had great distinction particularly in the Sunday School department and served as a deacon. After many years he heard the clarion call of God to preach, whereas he served as a minister for several years, and was later ordained an Elder by Bishop Theodore Davis. Bishop Davis, in 1987 appointed him pastor at the Paradise Church of God in Christ (Meridian, MS). Supt. Coburn served with great commitment and humility there for 27 years. In August of 2010, upon the passing of Supt. Harris, Bishop Hollis Musgrove returned him home to Center Hill COGIC as pastor. Though he only pastored there for four and a half years, he impacted the lives of many. Supt. Coburn also served in District 12 as Dis-trict Chairman and District Sunday School Superintendent. He was also appoint-ed as Jurisdictional Sunday School Superintendent, where he served for 19 years. Married to the former Marjorie Hathorn, a union that lasted for over 55 years; parents of five children Tyrone Hickman (Patricia), Perry Coburn (who preceded him in death), Edward Coburn (Angie), Cassandra Coburn, and Janice Haynes (Travis).

Missionary Lee Mae Moore-Hall, born February 18, 1921, and passed away on March 12, 2015. What a rich sanctified life she lived. Her life, as most wasn’t always easy, but God had a plan. Early years were spent in Bude, MS, but later moved to Natchez, MS to live with her grandmother after the demise of her mother as a toddler. She had to grow up quickly as a teenager, as she says, because of her “gift”, son Robert (Bob) Summersville; and God had a plan. In 1948 she met Deacon Ulysses Hall, (now deceased) and according to Missionary Hall, her spiritual journey began. Their marriage begin with Deacon Hall accepting Christ, at St, John COGIC, in Crosby , MS. He assured her that she would accept Christ also. It took her a while, but God sent Prophet Bivens, who told her God’s plan for her life; she ac-cepted Christ, and “ Took my stand for Holiness,” for the rest of her life. Filled with the Holy Ghost, she was propelled into the ministry. She taught herself to read by reading the Bible. Appointed an Evangelist Mis-sionary, she conducted revivals from New York City to Dallas, TX. She has worked in many capacities in the local church, district, and jurisdic-tion, fondly known as “the preacher’s helper”. She was a member of St. John COGIC, Crosby, MS for over 50 years.

Women of the Church of God In Christ

Like women in the days of oldwho dared to live for Christ who gave themselves for Jesus and proved it with a life. Today we are the same we’ve come in Jesus Name. We are women of the Church Of God In Christ. We’re women from everywhere of the Church of God in Christ. We praise God anywhere because we live the life We travel far and near we make the sacrifice We are women of the Church of God in Christ.
