Schools have an important contribution in developing

sensitivity towards the environment. It is very

important to begin this process of developing a

positive attitude towards the environment right from

the beginning as soon as the students enter formal

school. The skills, habits, attitudes and values thus

inculcated stay throughout one’s life and becomes a

guiding force for generations to come. All this puts the

onus of taking care of the environment on the young

shoulders, who now feel strongly towards saving their

environment. This also helps them develop the sense

of belongingness towards their school and environment

and eventually to the planet Earth.

• SOLAR CELL PANELThe school produces its own electricity by harnessing solar energy. The

school installed 100 kiloWatts (kW) of solar power, which provides us

with nearly 50 percent of the energy requirements.

Page 5: ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY SCHOOL

• RAIN WATER HARVESTING The school, which began harvesting rainwater in 2017, has retrofitted the

roof of the building to collect rainwater, which is then directed for

underground recharge.

Page 6: ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY SCHOOL

• COMPOSTING IN SCHOOL Students collect biodegradable waste (tea leaves and vegetable peels)

from school canteen and collect manure produced in composter to

spread it in the school garden

Page 7: ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY SCHOOL

• WATER PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION

Students are made aware about the need to conserve water as water

is a precious resource. The senior students guide the younger ones

not to waste water, water left in their bottles are not put in the basin

but they are educated to use it to water the plants. Senior students

take session on depleting water levels and to use water judiciously

as every drop of water counts. In Geography classes, students are

taught about community-based water conservation techniques used

in medieval times like stepwells and Baolis.

JUDICIOUS USE OF ELECTRICITY –

Reminders are put in classes and labs to turn off the lights and

Electricity Managers are appointed in the class to monitor the same

The aim of the project is to collaborate witha partner school and perform a comparativestudy of the benefits and harmful effects oftechnology upon the environment withrespect to India, Bhutan and China amongfew other countries. Students will mutuallyexchange different ways in which theircountry uses Technology in the right way.

Technology Vs Environment: What is our Role?

Page 17: ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY SCHOOL

THE CORE IDEA BEHIND THISPROJECT

In order to shape attitude of students towards the

environment during formative years, a number of activities

will be done. Students will themselves collect information

, conduct surveys, take part in Debate competition and

know how important Environment protection is. The

activities will create an understanding of the

consequences of human actions for the earth and its

resources and how other countries are dealing with it;

They will brainstorm, think of solutions and create a blog

to sensitize globally . The objective is to transform the

young minds into responsible citizens of the earth.

ENCOURAGING RECYCLING

The project given during holidays also intend to recycle many

things readily available rather than buying the new stuff to do

projects, such as using CDs, egg trays, plastic bottles, floppies etc

to make the best out of waste.

Use of refillable pens, covering books and notebooks with used

paper, preparing class bulletin boards using already used stuff are

also encouraged.

Page 82: ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY SCHOOL

• SHARING OF RESOURCES

with each other. The old textbooks and uniforms are also given by the

senior students to their juniors. Even during school functions, the

resources are shared amongst different departments and the thought

that we should buy if we can afford is negated.

• SAVE PAPER SAVE TREE

study material to be shared in soft form is one of the major ways to

avoid wasting paper. Using both sides of a sheet of paper is

encouraged and followed strictly. Print only what is necessary.

• REDUCING LUNCH WASTE OR FOOD WASTAGE

Very young students are taught not to waste food and to finish

what they get. They are also taught to feed their food to the

birds or the animals if it falls on the floor.

Page 83: ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY SCHOOL

Teaching to reduce-reuse-recycle is an important way to manage

waste and especially plastics, but children are taught now TO

REFUSE THE USE OF PLASTIC, which is definitely the first

step to conserve and preserve the environment.

Plastic is minimally used inside the school campus. Use of cloth

folders and bags are encouraged. To create awareness among

students many programmes are conducted such as debate on

“Plastic a boon or a bane”, poster making competition and

sensitization programmes.

Page 87: ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY SCHOOL

Students have studied and have tried to find alternatives of

plastic. They also exhibited their work on PTM and Annual

exhibition

Page 88: ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY SCHOOL

2. CLEAN DRIVE

In accordance with Swachch Bharat Abhiyaaan, Classroom clean

up days are celebrated to declutter and clean. Series of events were

conducted to celebrate a clean and green drive. Various activities

were conducted in the school like a street play on ‘Clean India’.
