NEWSLETTER Monday 25 March.2019 Welcome to Week 9 Term 1 SCOPE IT This term the students in Stage 2 and 3 have participated in coding and electronics lessons. The students in year 3 have been learning about basic elements of computer science and coding. The Year 4, 5 and 6 students have been working together to design and construct working electrical systems. The courses allow the students to think critically and problem solve in a group setting. Scope IT is a very enjoyable experience and exploring the world of coding is extremely interesting. - Alisa Zeng 3Z In Scope IT we learnt how to mix colours with the LED RGB. RGB stands for red green and blue. We also used Scratch for Arduino to code our LED and we can also use push buttons. - William Xu, 4M In Scope IT this year, I have been learning all about circuits, breadboard, advino board and how to use them properly. I have really enjoyed learning how to turn the light on and off without using the laptop. - Sukesh (6/5A) Stage 3 have been participating in really fun coding lessons with Scope IT. My favourite part is when we make circuits with wires, electronic parts and more. - Eliza C (6/5K) In Scope IT this year, I have been learning about circuits, using different types of pieces to turn on a light or do different cool things. I have really enjoyed Scope IT because creating all these different circuits, with lights, wires and everything has really made me interested in coding and how it works. -Chloe W (6/5K) Norfolk Road, Epping NSW 2121 Phone: 9876 1452 Fax: 9876 6873 Email: [email protected] Website: www.epping-p.schools.nsw.edu.au P & C Meeting: Second Tuesday of Each Month at 6.30 pm COMING EVENTS CROSS COUNTRY 28 MARCH IMPORTANT DATES P & C Calendar Term 1 2019 Meetings – All welcome Tuesday 9 April (Week 11) – held from 6.30pm (Staff Room) ASSEMBLY Wednesday 27 March Darug Assembly at 12.15pm Assembly item will be presented by 6/5P Guringai Assembly at 1.15pm Assembly item will be presented by 6/5A Silver Matix 2H Ella 2W Dishani 3H Kristian 6/5H Bronze Sricharan 1M Luke 1M Saanvi 2H Hemanth 3Z Harmonious And Caring School Community EPPING PUBLIC SCHOOL Opportunity, Excellence, Success

SCOPE IT

This term the students in Stage 2 and 3 have participated in coding and electronics lessons.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL HARMONY DAY Once again the school enjoyed another successful Harmony Day. On display were many traditional costumes, sporting teams and just orange coloured clothing all representing the virtues of Harmony Day. Each class represented a different country and participated in a sport that was representative of that country. The EAL/D Team did a wonderful job in organising the event and the students thoroughly enjoyed it. Let us remember however that the virtues of tolerance, acceptance, inclusiveness and kindness that are spoke about on this day should be practised every day and not only by the children of our school but by all of us. PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS Next week is our Parent Teacher Interview Week with Wednesday 3 April being the evening session. Last Wednesday online bookings opened and are able to be accessed via the newsletter or on the message sent home via the school app. Bookings will close this Wednesday 27 March at 3pm. If you are having problems accessing the online booking please contact the school. P&C DONATION Last week I sent home a letter on behalf of our P&C regarding the shortfall in funds due to the inability to hold a school fete last year and possibly next year. I asked that parents consider supporting the request of a $20 donation per term to supplement this shortfall. I again remind our parents of the many wonderful resources that the P&C has been able to supply to our students. This has included the new Sports field, the playground equipment, the shade covering, payment towards the computer lab and many technology and literacy resources just to name a few things. The money raised all goes back to our students, your children. So please go to our website, access the Make a Payment tab and donate $20 per family using the heading P&C Donation. Future donation requests will be included in each term’s invoice. All donations are voluntary but I do encourage you to support this appeal. CROSS COUNTRY Our Cross Country is to be held this Thursday at Macquarie University for our Y2 – Y6 students. Our YK & Y1 students will have a fun run back at school at the same time. Information concerning both events has been sent home to parents. Please contact the office if you have any questions. SIGN NOT OPERATIONAL A number of people have enquired about why our sign is non-operational. The sign malfunctioned a number of

weeks ago and the technician a advised that at the time of repair we should also update our software, which also included a new part. Unfortunately the acquisition and delivery of that part has taken a lot longer than first thought. We hope to have the sign back in working order within the next 5-10 days. TERM 1 INVOICE REMINDER I am aware that we all lead busy lives and at times things get overlooked. This week we will send home Term 1 Invoice Reminders. 1. If this is an oversight please pay at your earliest opportunity. 2. If you have paid in the last few days please disregard the reminder and thank you. 3. If you believe you have paid please contact the office so we can adjust our records. 4. If there are some issues with payment please contact me via the office to discuss. All enquiries will be treated confidentially. SCHOOL MAP Due to the changing nature of classrooms we only have a handwritten map of the school. Please contact the office if you are unsure of your child’s class location. John Ford Principal RFF and Support Information As part of our Parent/ Teacher interview week, the RFF and Learning Support staff will be available to answer any questions about their programs on Wednesday 3 April from 3.30pm till 7pm with a short break at 4.45pm. The following teachers will be available during these times in the school library:

Mr Castles and Miss Ralton will be available to

discuss the CAPA and FMS program.

Mrs Bulgin will be available to discuss the library

program.

Mr Le and Mrs Bailey will be able to give an

overview of the support program.

EALD teachers will also be available at certain

times

This will not be a time for individual interviews, however if needed, a separate time can be scheduled with the relevant support teacher. Janette Bailey Assistant Principal

NAPLAN Online 2019 In 2019 students in Years 3 and 5 will be completing NAPLAN Online between 14 - 24 May. Year 5 will complete Writing, Language Conventions, Reading and Numeracy in the online format. Year 3 will complete Language Conventions, Reading and Numeracy online but will sit the Writing test in the traditional handwritten format. To familiarise students with the online format, they will participate in a practice test over the coming weeks. A detailed NAPLAN schedule will be distributed early in Term 2. For further information regarding NAPLAN Online please refer to the link below: http://www.nap.edu.au/docs/default-source/default-document-library/naplan-online-information-brochure-for-parents-and-carers.pdf

Students do not need to be computer experts to take the NAPLAN test online. Making sure students have computer skills is part of our school curriculum, and our teachers will ensure your child is familiar with the online format. To see the types of questions and interactive features of NAPLAN Online, visit the public demonstration site.

If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child’s teacher.
