Established in 1934, E.S. Fox Limited (ESFL) is a privately owned Canadian multi-trade company providing a single source for Industrial, Institutional, Commercial and Bridge construction projects. With over 3.0 million direct-hire man-hours last year, we self-perform structural steel fabrication and erection, mechanical, electrical, sheet metal, HVAC, refrigeration, millwright / rigging, and boilermaking services.

STRUCTURAL STEEL DIVISION

The structural steel division manages the fabrication and field erection of structural steel systems for new construction. The division specializes in “niche” structural systems used for existing building reinforcement, high rise building towers, pedestrian, rail and transportation bridges, external elevator shafts, crane installations, water parks and other recreational structures. ESFL maintains an average of twelve to fifteen hundred workmen and as high as 3,000 during major construction projects throughout Canada. ESFL is signatory to 98 union locals providing experienced tradesmen from all industrial construction disciplines.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

The Quality Management System at ESFL is registered to ISO 9001 : 2015 by SAI Global. Over the decades, ESFL has held numerous ISO, ASME and Nuclear Certifications. Work is regularly carried out under codes such as: ISO 9001:2015, CWB W47.1, CWB W47.2 (with 3-4 welding engineers on staff), CSA N286-05 (Nuclear) CSA N299.1 – 2016 , ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental) and OHSAS 18001 : 2007 (Health & Safety). We are also a member of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC).

Description: This project included the preassembly on temporary shoring

supports and erection of two separate stainless steel cable stay supported bridges,

complete with precast panels. Each 150 ton bridge is supported by one outward leaning

arch.

Description: These two pedestrian bridges, the north bridge at 564’ long, and the

south bridge at 720’ long, were erected over the Pine Valley. The plate girders were 7’

deep and up to 120’ long, weighing up to 24 tons each. 550t cranes were required.

There were several two-crane operations erecting girders simultaneously. The site was

environmentally sensitive and equipment, man and crane access was limited.

Description: Erection of a signature pedestrian bridge complete with all artistic

elements and cable railing over a busy train switching area. Assembly took place

adjacent to the final location, with erection carried out during 16 hour shutdowns.

Description: 8 new rail bridges consisting of 88 ton, 110’ long, 12’ deep plate

girders. The spans were fully stick built in place working around live traffic lanes. This

Description: Rehabilitation of an in-use rail bridge over Highland Creek. Included

jacking of existing bridge for bearing replacement, removing rivets and replacement of

existing steel. New steel was installed in phases to maintain the integrity of the bridge.

Description: Erection of a 2,000 ton, 990 foot long bridge under the existing QEW.

The structure was launched from one side of the Credit River to the other. It was then

jacked up into its final location with 20 strand jacks. This “access bridge” was then used

for access to the underside of the existing bridge to perform extensive structural steel

reinforcing.

Description: Preassembly of 4 spans. The abutment sections were assembled on slide

tracks for a jack and slide rapid bridge replacement method. SPMT hydraulic trailers set

the 2 center span bridges. In a 2 day shut down all 4 spans were changed.

Description: A new road bridge over Hwy 401 consisting of 20 tub girder sections. The

4 center drop-in spans were erected in one five-hour full-closure window. Girders were

Description: Two aerial pedestrian bridges (92’ long, 88 tons and 146’ long, 99 tons),

erected in one piece each. In 7 days the bridge sections were decked, had concrete

poured, were glazed and erected. No damage to the new structure during erection

occurred.
