My Style Models and Their Distributors

There are 3 Media institutions that distribute the magazines that I have used as my style models for research. Theses are:

- Bauer Media (Kerrang! and Q) - IPC Media (NME) - Spin Media (Vibe) The reason I chose these magazines to use for research is because they all share a similar target audience, and there are 3 different institutions that could possibly distribute my media product. Since my magazine has a very similar target audience to my style models, I started to look at the above media institutions in order to decide what one would be the best suited to distribute my product. I also looked at what my magazine will offer them, in order to further emphasise the fact that they are the best choice.

IPC Media

IPC Media are the UK’s largest magazine publisher, with more than 60 media brands. They engage nearly two thirds of the UK’s women and 42% of UK men, and create content for multiple platforms such as print, mobile, online, tablets and events.

IPC Media have three main branches: IPC Connect which focuses on women’s magazines and is their largest division with the largest market, IPC Inspire which focuses on a male audience, and IPC Southbank which again are more tailored towards a different aspects of the female lifestyle. The only one of relevance to my media product is IPC Inspire, since it has a male audience in mind and produces magazines such as NME, which has a very similar audience to my own media product.

Bauer Media Bauer Media Group is a multinational media company and one of the largest in the world. They are based in Hamburg, Germany and have been privately owned by the Bauer Family. They own over 300 magazines in 16 countries such as Q and Kerrang!.

A lot of their media products, which aren’t just limited to magazines, have a similar audience to that of my own media product including Kerrang! Which is my main style model.

So Which One Is Best Suited To Distribute my Magazine?

After looking at these two distributors, I have came to the conclusion that Bauer Media Group would be much more suited to distribute my media product than IPC Media. I have come to this decision because they are a very prestigious and they already distribute a number of music magazines that are targeted to a similar audience.

I also think that my media product will offer them a chance to strengthen their audience in the Rock/Punk Rock area of music, as they don’t have that many current products that are targeted specifically towards that audience. My magazine will also help bring in a younger audience, and further strengthen their business.
