Vietnamese OutreachVietnamese Outreach• Community area or dedicated street with a distinctly Vietnamese

character that includes Vietnamese design and cultural elements, lotus towers, pictures, fish scale tiles, doors, foliage, bamboo, etc) Façade, courtyard help in shopping center; streetscape.

• High-quality café’s and restaurants that would appeal to the broader community as well---outdoor marketplaces and vendors.

• Wide open entrances---in Vietnam doors were open from early in the AM to late at night, alleys and arcades, place where older people can meet and that has after school activities for kids

• Community networking (the lunch meeting provided a very active exchange of business cards!

• More information and communication on City plans – City should inform community through church, Buddhist Temple, E-mail, etc.

• Diversity representation and historical commemoration (e.g. memorial grove to ethnic figures).

• Rec Facilities---e.g..., Swimming pool, children's oriented interactive art from all ethnic groups, performing arts center, skate park, lighted athletic fields, community center for meetings, parties, bowling alleys and ice rink.

• Public art that reflects walnut orchards and what was in the area historically, arbors and native vegetation.

• “Eastridge is…an important institution in the community and should reflect the community’s diversity....where different communities and cultures come and mix.”

• More direct connection to transit (tunnel, protected walkway, lighting) and for pedestrians – transit station as a place

• New strategy: add entertainment, sit down restaurants, mix of independent and franchise retail, interior improvements

• Sears property most developable- outside airport path• Want a main street appearance, flowers, fountain, less pavement,

cultural diversity reflected in architecture• Confusing – driving approach, levels, lack of signage• Want places for artists to show work, musicians to play, concerts,

performance area, keep ice rink that is used for teams and leagues.

• Need density to support transit and provide affordable housing---but fear of density is issue

pass safety guidelines • Improvements to airport site needed
