1 About ExamJet Quiz Maker

ExamJet Quiz Maker is a Test and quiz maker software, which completely covers the process of testpassing, collecting and analyzing the received results. The program itself consists of two parts: Test Manager and Tester.

2 Getting Started Guide

Welcome to ExamJet Quiz Maker!

We are very happy you've decided to install ExamJet Quiz Maker and think you've made a great choice.You'll soon discover that ExamJet will simplify the way you deliver quizzes and tests.

The Getting Started will give you a possibility to create the first Question Bank, publish it and receiveand analyze the results.

So, let's beginLaunch the program Test Manager.

Create a new databaseAt first you need to create a database, where questions with possible answers, and test results will bewritten.

While running program for the first time, a pop-up window with database connection form will appear.Check the Radio Button - “Connect to the Local Database" and then "Create a New Database".

Database Setup - Create new database

Save the local database in a desired location.

After successfully creating the database, the Test Manager will run. At the beginning you need to passthe startup wizard, which will help you fill in the minimum information for program to run normally. Forquickly ascertaining the functionality of ExamJet Quiz Maker, create database with Sample Data. Thiswill allow you to examine program’s basic functions on the given example, or you can choose to startwith an empty ExamJet database and build up the foundation yourself.

To enter the program, you need to sign in. Default username is "admin" and the password you wouldhave probably entered in startup wizard during creating the database.

Add Question BankQuestion Banks are the ExamJet question collections which are stored as a related questions.

To add the question bank, go to "Question Editor" and click the "Manage Question Banks" button.

In an opened form click the button "Create New" and fill in the desired fields.After closing the question bank managing form, choose the added question bank in the main.

Now you can add questions and possible answers.To add the first question click "Add Question", after clicking, you’ll see all the available question types.



Question Types

Publish TestAfter adding all the questions, go to "Publish Tests". Take into account, that creating a question bankdoes not mean it is will be available to pass the quiz. You can precisely determine the quiz’s parametersby the unique principle of publishing question banks in ExamJet Quiz Maker.

Click the button "Publish New Test". A window will appear where you can define the quiz parametersand choose the question banks you want to be used in published test.

After saving the parameters, the quiz will be available for candidates.

You have three options when choosing the authorization type of your Test:Anonymous Testing. Choose and start an Exam. You may enter your name or take the quizanonymously.Generate Access Codes. Generate access codes for each student. Only those students can accessthe test who have the access code.Set Password. Set one master password for the test.

Here ends the quiz preparation part – Now quiz is published!

TesterLaunch the program Tester.

While running Tester for the first time, you’ll see the database connection form. Choose the radio button

"Connect to the Local Database" and find the local database.

The Tester will run. You will see all published tests and quizzes. Chose the desired one and press Start.

After finishing the quiz, results will be saved into the database and later you can see and analyze them.

View ResultsTo see the results, return to Test Manager and choose "Results". You’ll see the statistics of everypassed quiz and detailed information of students.

4 Test Manager

4.1 Common Concepts

4.1.1 General Information

Test Manager is an environment for managing quizzes and its components.

Test Manager consists of several modules. Each of them represents isolated part of the program andhave no straight connection with each other. It allows you to concentrate and use desired part of theapplication.

Test Manager allows to assign specific permissions to different users so that, they will be able to work inthe sphere of their competence without interruption. Also, Test Manager allows you to compose quizbanks, publish tests or quizzes for testing, assign permissions to the users, authorize tester computers,and view received results.

In general, the program is separated into three parts:1. Main Menu2. Navigation Panel





3. Selected module area – main area

Test Manager

Navigation panel is used for moving from one module to another. According to the selected module, themain menu is changed, and only the relevant buttons will appear.

4.1.2 Saving the Information

ExamJet Quiz Maker is based on the automatic information saving methodology. When you finish someaction (for example: click the “Save Question” button, click OK while adding question bank, click Finishwhile publishing the test etc.), information will automatically be saved in the database. There’s no needof doing anything additional to save the information.

4.1.3 Modules

Test Manager consists of the following modules:

Question EditorIn the module “Question Editor” you can create question banks, add questions and possible answers.

Publish TestsIn the module "Publish Tests" you can make quiz available for students, choose the desired questionbanks and assign them different options.

StudentsIn the module "Students" you can add and manage students and student groups.

ResultsIn the module "Results" you can browse and get the detailed statistics of passed quizzes, students andtheir answers.

TestersIn the module "Testers" you can see all the client-computers, connected to central testing database.

4.1.4 Log in

In order to start working in the ExamJet Quiz Maker, you must log in.

While creating a new database, the program automatically adds a default user called “admin”. Duringthe Startup Wizard, you will be offered to set a new password. Make sure that password is strongenough. You can see detailed information about Startup Wizard here.

Also, you can choose “Stay signed in” and the Test Manager will automatically sign you in afterlaunching the Test Manager.

4.2 Database Setup

Test Manager can work with two different databases. You can choose local or remote database.

For remote databases, you can use Microsoft SQL Server.

4.2.1 Create a Local Database

To use a local database, click the Application Menu, located in the upper left corner of the program. Ingiven list click the "Database Setup".

Popup form will appear. Choose the section “Local Database” and then check the radio button -

"Connect to the Local Database".

If you want to create a new database click the “Create a new database” button and specify the addressyou want to save it in.

If you already have a local database and want to use it, click the "Open an Existing Database" buttonand choose the desired database.

Note: Keep in mind that the database file must be on a local computer. Selecting it from network deviceor shared folder is not possible.

Click the button "Create Database". After that the program will restart and you will see the startupwizard.

4.2.2 Create a Remote Database

You can use the Microsoft SQL Server as a database server, which is a relational databasemanagement system and can handle a huge amount of data.

To use a remote database, click Application Menu, located in the upper left corner of the program.Select "Database Setup" in the list appeared.

In the appeared window select the section “Remote Database” and then select the radio button -"Connect to the Remote Database (Microsoft SQL Server)".

In the beginning, check the server name the database is installed on.

Then select the Authentication Type. You can choose either Windows Integrated Authentication or SQLServer Authentication.

Note: For additional parameters or other network rules, please contact your database administrator.

At last, you need to assign a name to database or choose already existing database.

Click the button "Create Database". After that the program will restart and you will see the startupwizard.

4.2.3 Startup Wizard

After creating a new database, the Startup wizard will launch, it will help you to add the minimumrequired information into the database.

Also, the wizard will add one super user – admin, later in Startup Wizard, you’ll have to assign apassword.

You can add Sample Data for the better understanding of program’s functions.

4.3 Question Editor

In the module "Question Editor" you can create new questions, add possible answers and arrangethem in categories.Questions are located in the Question Bank. One question bank can contain unlimited number ofquestions.

Question Banks are not visible to the students. You should publish the question bank to make a quiz.

There is a main menu in the upper part - Ribbon, in the left there are list of categories, and the centralplace is occupied by questions and their possible answers.

On the top of the question list there is a drop-down list for quickly switching between question banks.

SearchIn the Question Editor you can use the intellectual search tool. The search field is always available atthe top of the question list.

Search in questions works as follows: it looks for in question texts, taking into account all symbols. Ifany category is chosen, the search shows only the questions located in that category.

Note: If you choose another question bank, the search field will become empty and all the questions will

appear.



Sorting QuestionsAdditionally, you can sort questions by different criteria:

4.3.1 Question Banks

Question Bank is an essential unit it Test Manager, it combines question categories, questions andpossible answers.

To view or to add new Question Bank choose Question Editor on the Navigation Panel.

Find the "Manage Question Banks" button in the main menu, and in the appeared window you’ll see all

available question banks.

4.3.1.1 Create Question Bank

You can add question bank from “Manage Question Banks” window. It’s necessary for question bank tohave a unique name.

Also the question bank can contain a short description.

4.3.1.2 Edit Question Bank

To edit the question bank name, select the desired question bank and click the button Modify (locatednext to every question bank).

4.3.1.3 Delete Question Bank

To delete the question bank, select the desired record and click the button Delete (located next to everyquestion bank).

Note: Before deleting, please keep in mind that every containing (child) record in question bank (questioncategories, questions and answers) will be deleted, and there’s no way to get them back.

4.3.2 Questions

4.3.2.1 Question Types

4.3.2.1.1 Multiple Choice

Multiple Choice means, that only one answer is correct.

You need to add at least 2 possible answers. This question type can contain up to 20 possible answers.

4.3.2.1.2 Multiple Answers

In this type of question, you can add several right answers. To answer the question correctly, the quiztaker must select all the right answers, otherwise, one can’t get a point.


4.3.2.1.3 True/False

True/False is a type of question where the question is correct or incorrect. Accordingly, there can beonly two possible answers.

4.3.2.1.4 Sequence

Sequence is a type of question, where quiz taker needs to sort possible answers in the correctsequence. This question type is useful, when there is a need of ranking or sorting answers.


This type of question is also known as Ordering Answers.

4.3.2.1.5 Matching (Choose from Drop-down)

Matching (Choose from Drop-down) is the type of question, when quiz taker needs to select everycorrect answer from the given list next to the question.


4.3.2.1.6 Fill in the Blank

Fill in the Blank is the type of question, where the instructor can write several possible answers. Thequiz taker will get a point if the answer matches with the one of the possible answers.

You need to add at least one possible answer. This question type can contain up to 20 possibleanswers.

4.3.2.1.7 Numeric

Numeric is the type of question where quiz taker needs to write the numeric answer.

To determine value with this question, you can use the following criteria:Equal toBetweenGreater thanGreater than or equal toLess thanLess than or equal toNot equal toNot between

You need to add at least one possible answer. This question type can contain up to 20 possibleanswers.



4.3.2.2 Add Question

To add a question, click the “Add Question” button, and all the possible question types will appear.

Choose desired question type. Add Question windows will appear, here you can add the question text,possible answers, set question point and enter the question feedback (if desired).

Add question

The question text field is a complete Microsoft Word like text editor. Here you can write the text of anycomplexity, insert pictures, tables, create mathematical formulas or insert any nonstandard symbols.

Also, you can add the question in the desired category.To add a question to the existing category click the Categories drop-down list and choose the one youwant.

Possible answersConsidering selected question type, you can add possible answers, delete or reorder them.

You can add up to 20 possible answers to each question. The minimum quantity of answers differs bythe selected question type:

For True/False questions, minimum and maximum possible answers can be only 2For Essay type question, there are no possible answers givenFor all the other question types you can add up to 20 possible answers

The possible answers text can also contain different difficult elements such as pictures or mathematicalformulas.

Note: The Tester itself completely suits to the submitted answers texts and despite of the number oflines in most cases, shows the text without using the scroll bar.



Adding the possible answerTo add another possible answer, click the add button, located next to every possible answer.

Reorder the possible answerTo reorder the possible answers, click the Up/Down buttons next to them.

Question ExplanationThe main purpose of Question Explanation is to explain to the quiz taker why the answer he/she choseis correct or incorrect. Explanation text can contain tables, pictures and other difficult elements.

You can add the explanation text separately for correct and incorrect answers. To add explanation incase of the correct answer, click the button “Explanation on Correct Answer”, located in main menu.

The text input form will appear. Write the text and save it.

When there is an explanation added to the question, the icons located on the Add Question windowchanges its color. For example if we fill explanation in case of the correct answer, the label of that buttonbecomes bold.

4.3.2.3 Edit Question

To edit the question, select the desired record and click the button Edit Question, located in the mainmenu.

Note: In the Edit Question window, you can change all settings of the question except question type.

4.3.2.4 Delete Question

To delete the question, select the record you want and click the button Delete Question, located in themain menu.

Note: If the question is already used in the published test and you try to delete it, you will see themessage saying that if you delete the question, no full information about the saved test results will beavailable anymore.

4.3.3 Question Categories

Question Categories gives you the possibility to arrange questions in more specific way. Quiz takercannot see these categories during the test, but they are very helpful for question operators.

When there are no categories added, there is only one record - All questions. You cannot delete it.

Add question categoryTo add a new category, click the button “Add Category”, located in the main menu.

Edit Question CategoryTo edit the category name, click the button “Manage Categories”, located in the main menu. A CategoryManagement window will appear, where you can add, edit or delete categories.

In the appeared window, select category you want and click the button “Modify”, located next to everyadded record.

In the pop up window make desired changes and click “OK”.

Delete Question CategoryTo delete a category, click the button "Manage Categories", located in the main menu. The CategoryManagement window will appear, were you can add, edit or delete them.

Select the desired category and click the “Delete” button, located next to every record.

Note: By deleting the category, the questions included in it are not deleted, they just become"uncategorized".

Adding questions to the categoryIf you want to put questions in the existing category, you need to open the question and choose theappropriate category from the drop-down list.

4.4 Publish Tests

The module "Publish Tests" allows you to make the quiz available for students.

In the main window, you can see all published tests, including inactive ones.

Published TestThere is a unique quiz publishing system in ExamJet. You can choose which question bank to publishand combine them, choose student groups and assign desired permissions. This published test or quizwill be visible as a single one for the candidate.

Access Codes in Published TestsIn ExamJet we developed a unique access system to the published tests – through access codes. Theprogram generates unique access codes for each students, which you can print and distribute amongthem.

It simplifies process of delivery tests to students and makes its accessibility much safer. Also, you canchoose other options too.

4.4.1 Publish New Test

To publish a new test, click the button "Publish New Test", located in the main menu.

The Publish Test Wizard will appear, it will require only the minimum information necessary to publishthe test or quiz.

Here you can select question banks which you want to publish. Keep in mind, that you can choosemore than one question bank. Consider a case when you have different topic questions arranged indifferent question banks and you want students to pass the quiz as one. You can check and publishthem.

If you choose "Generate Access Codes" on the Authorization page, on the next page you will be able toselect student groups. On the Students page, you can choose the group or groups for whom you want tohave access to the test or quiz. In this case, access codes will be generated separately for eachstudent.

Note: As mentioned earlier, this wizard allows you to enter only necessary information. If you want fullcontrol and change more settings, open the Published Test in an edit mode.

4.4.2 Modify Published Test

To modify the published test, select the desired one and click the button “Modify”, located in the mainmenu.

Allow to Grade TestDuring the test, you can select which grading scale you want to use. Read more about grading scales.

Note: When you publish a new test, wizard chooses the default grading scale.

Test is DisabledIf you do not want to delete published test, but keep the test results, you can select it as Disabled.When the test is disabled, it can’t be used in the testing process anymore, but the test results will stillbe available.

Number of Questions

The parameter defines number of questions the student will see in the quiz.

If you choose number of questions which is less the ones in the question banks, the student will see themaximum available questions. For example, if the question bank contains 30 questions and in the"Number of Questions" fields you write "40", the student will see only 30 questions.

Note: If the "Shuffle all Questions" option is selected, the program will randomly choose questions fromall checked question banks.

Show Test Results

The parameter defines whether the candidate will see his/her results after the test is finished or not.

Save Test Results

The parameter defines whether the test results will be saved in the test database after the test is finishedor not.

Allow Break

The parameter defines whether the student can take a break during the test or not. Student can take abreak only once.

Note: When finished, the program takes into account the real time spent on the test, excluding thebreak time.

License Agreement

If the student needs to read the license agreement, you can write it in that text editor.

A candidate should accept the license agreement to start a test or quiz.

Test Instructions

If a candidate needs to get and understand some specific instructions about the test or quiz process,you can write it down in that text box.

View Question List

In addition, student can see the question list, available in the main window. Student can jump to thequestion he/she wishes and define the answering order himself/herself.

Allow to Flag Questions

The parameter defines whether the student can set Flag to questions or not. In addition, it helps thestudent to mark for overview and correct the flagged questions on the review page, before finalizing thetest.

The parameter defines whether the student will see points of each questions or not.

Show Explanations

The parameter defines whether the student will see question explanations (if the question contains aone) or not.



Shuffle Questions

You can select the parameter if you want the program to shuffle and randomly choose questions.

4.4.3 Delete Published Test

To delete a published test, select the desired record and click the “Delete” button, located in the mainmenu.

If you delete the test which already passed by candidates, the results of that test will also be deleted.

If you want to save the test results, you can open published test and check the check box – “Test isDisabled”. After that the test will not be available for students, but the results will stay in the database.

To print access codes for students, select the published test you want and click the button “PrintAccess Codes”, located in the main menu.

4.5 Students

In the Students module you can compose a united database of students. In this case you’ll easily letthem permissions to pass the quiz and you will also have a detailed information about received results.

To add a new student, click the button “Add Student”, located in the main menu.

In the module “Results”, you can get detailed statistics about each taken test or quiz, students and theiranswers. You also can generate and print different reports.

4.6.1 View Details

To see more comprehensive information about the quiz, click the “View Details” button, located in themain menu.

On the detailed view window, you can see information about results, for example how much time did ittake for student to finish the quiz.You can also see each question he/she answered, and was the student right or wrong.

4.6.2 Reports

To review and print reports, click the “Reports” button, located in the main menu.




A drop-down menu will appear, where you can choose the report you want. Reports are grouped by theirtype.

4.7 Testers

In the “Testers” module, you can see all client-computers connected to the central testing database.

Using this module, you can also control Testers' access parameters. For example, if you want onlyauthorized Testers to be able to connect to the database, you can activate appropriate function inSettings window.

Register Tester ComputersAfter the tester computer is connected to the database, the program checks whether the computer isregistered or not. Each tester client computer, connecting to the database, needs to be registered. Itallows you to know exactly on which computer is the tester installed and what parameters are spread onit.

If the computer is not registered, the computer identification information will be added to the database,which will allow the Administrator to authorize the client-computer.

Authorize Tester ComputersFor additional security, you can use the authorization mechanism. By default, the function is disabled.

4.7.1 Authorize Tester

Authorization means, that the registered tester computer must be approved by the administrator. Bydefault, unauthorized testers can use Tester.

Note: If you want only authorized testers to be able to connect to the database, at first you need toactivate this option. It’s located in Tester Settings.

4.7.2 Edit Tester

To edit information about the tester, select the desired record and click the “Edit Tester” button, locatedin the main menu.

In the Edit Tester window, you can change the display name, or add the tester to some group.

4.7.3 Tester Password

You can choose to require password to change database settings. You can set this restriction for eachTester separately.

To set password for Tester, select the desired one and click the "Tester Password" button, located inthe main menu.

You will see the "Supervisor Password" window. Enable the "Require password to change databasesettings" check box and enter the new password.

4.7.4 Delete Tester

To delete the tester, select the record you want and click the “Delete Tester” button, located in the mainmenu.

Please keep in mind, that if you run the Tester once again in the same computer, the Tester appear inthe Unauthorized list again. If you decide to authorize it again, you will be able to do it as usual.

4.7.5 Manage Tester Groups

To manage tester groups, click the "Manage Tester Groups" button, located in the main menu.

Add Tester GroupTo add a new tester group, click the “Create New” button, located in the Tester Management window.

The Add Tester window will appear, where you can set a name to the group and write a description.

Note: Please, keep in mind that the tester group name must be unique.

Delete Tester GroupTo delete the tester group, click the “Delete” button, located next to each record in the Tester Groupswindow.

Note: If there are one or more testers in the group, they will not be deleted by removing the group. Theyjust will not be included in any groups.

4.7.6 Tester Settings

To manage tester parameters, click the “Settings” button in the main menu. You can change thefollowing parameters:

Allow unauthorized access for TestersBy default this option is turned on and there is no authorization limit for testers.

Authorize new Testers automaticallyBy default the function is turned off.

4.8 User Management

You can set the appropriate roles and permissions to each user. For the best flexibility, Roles and Usersare managed separately.

4.8.2.1 Add Security Role

To add a new role, click the button “New Security Role”, located in the role management form.

An Add Role form will appear. The window consists of two pages: you can give a name to the role on thefirst page and also add users in it.

The Edit Role window will appear. It consists of two pages: on the first page you can change the name ofthe role or add users in it.

4.9 Grading Scales

In ExamJet Quiz Maker you can reflect any evaluation method by using Grading Scales.

The number of Grading Scales is not limited in the program and you can set different scales to eachtests.

There are already added and configured Grading Scales in the ExamJet Quiz Maker. You can also addyour own.

To open the Grading Scale module, click the Application Menu, located in the upper left corner of theprogram. In the given list, select “Grading Scales”.

4.9.1 Create Grading Scale

To add a new Grading Scale, click “Create New” in the Grading Scales management window.

Please consider that, if Grading Scale is already used in one of the published tests, it cannot bedeleted. To delete such Grading Scale, at first you’ll need to change the selected Grading Scale in thesepublished tests, or delete used records.

5 Tester

Tester is a separate program, by means of which students are taking and passing quizzes.

5.1 Connect to the database

In order to work properly, Tester should be connected to the database all the time.

Tester can either be connected to a local database file, or to the remote database.

To change the database connection settings, launch the Tester and click “ExamJet” in the main menu.Click to the “Connect to the Database” menu item. Database connection window will appear.

Click the "Open an Existing Database" button and select the database you want.

Keep in mind that the database file must be on the local computer. Selecting it from the network deviceor the shared folder is not possible.

Connect to a remote databaseIn the opened window choose the “Remote Database” section and then select the radio button "Connectto the Remote Database (Microsoft SQL Server)".

In the beginning, enter the Server Name where the database server is installed.

Then select the Authentication Type. You can either choose Windows Integrated Authentication or SQLServer Authentication.

Note: For additional settings and corporate rules, please contact your database administrator.

At last, you need to choose the ExamJet database.

Click the button “Open Database”.

5.2 Tests

The first page is a list of available tests and quizzes.

This page is a main configuration point too. You can choose or change a database.
