EXAMPLES OF OTHER TEXTS

Wonderwall – OasisThis music video inspires me because it uses lots of different effects and edits such as colour correction, duplication, mirroring, reflections and uses several screens; presenting through mirrors and different camera lenses. The video is also presented in black and white which gives it a unique and different look, and again uses the colour correction to present certain objects such as instruments, into colour to make them stand out and emphasize their significance. Wonderwall music video falls under the amplifying category as it switches between performance and narrative. Although the narrative aspect doesn’t link to the lyrics its still has a direct link to the music. With all of these elements together it creates a busy atmosphere and a distinctive music video.

Radioactive – Imagine Dragons

The Radioactive music video again is an amplifying video as It has both performance based aspects and narrative aspects. Although the lyrics don’t have a link with the visuals, the visuals do have a relationship with the music. For example certain parts of the narrative happen in the rhythm on the music. Also, the need for close ups is effective because during the narrative it allows the audience to come closer to the actors and it emphasizes their thoughts and feelings about what is going on around them. During the performance aspects of the music video things that create a better and more interesting effect is when the visuals show the artist bang the drum just before the beat drops; when this happen the video then changed back to narrative. Another effective technique is the way that the video switches colour, as it begins shady and dark and constantly contrasts to brighter settings when the narrative becomes more developed.

Give Me A Try – The WombatsThis music video is a contrast between performance and narrative. The music video is mainly narrative but has small amounts of few second gaps in which the band are performing; singing towards the camera. The song is called ‘Give Me A Try’ and by watching the video the audience soon become aware it is about dating. However, at the start of the video the storyline isn’t clear explaining why some people may think that this music video is contradicting as the narrative didn’t link with the lyrics. Features that stand out in the video are the quick switching of the screen. Knowing the narratives storyline, the audience are exposed to tens of people representing themselves one after the other. This is a effective technique because it keeps the video busy and interesting and the audience don’t loose interest as there is always something going on in the visuals.

Virtually Married – Aiden GrimshawThis music video interest me because there is a narrative involved in the video however the audience are also exposed to the lyrics on screen which works really well with the video. They appear as the artists sings them rather than just showing on the screen; this technique brings the audience closer to the artists and creates a rapport as it suggests that the artists wants you to understand his song. This emphasises the understanding because most people can sing a song but not really understand what the words really mean; with them being on the screen it allows the audience to have a better appreciation for the music. Other effects that took my eye were that the video contrasts between black and white and just normal colour. This gives the video a more individual and unconventional outcome.
