The sweet sound of a well struck tennis ball comes from two different worlds in our lives.

From the sun drenched heat of Melbourne through the hallowed grounds of Wimbledon, to the extravagance of the US Open. Those are the sounds of fame, fortune, public attention and worldwide media.

There are other sounds equally sweet. A new stroke learned, a new found friend’s squeal of delight at a half volley winner or an ace that slides off the line just out of reach.

Make our tennis destinations your center stage to create your own sounds.

Cliff Drysdale Tennis and our partners make available what is the world’s greatest game. We realize, however, that there are numerous other challenging sports and activities for you and your family to choose from, and we want to offer all this to you and much more!

Experience one of our tennis destinations and we assure you it will be both fun and memorable for the entire family!

Looking forward to seeing you! Cliff & DiAnna Drysdale

Tennis Travel Writer Rick Limpert joined the Cliff Drysdale Team in Rancho Mirage for their inaugural “Tennis With The Stars” event on March 10, 2015. The Coachella Valley tennis extravaganza germinated out of the success of Drysdale’s yearly Miami Open kickoff charity event

at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami. Titled the “All-Star” Tennis Event, it is now in its sixth year and benefiting TECHO, a charitable organization that seeks to overcome poverty in the slums of Latin America and the Caribbean. Read on for Rick’s firsthand account of

the Drysdale experience of playing tennis with the stars in California…

“Tennis With the Stars” took over the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage as a preview to the action that would take place the next two weeks at the BNP

Professional tennis has been coming to South Florida and the Coachella Valley for 40 years, but tennis enthusiasts have never experienced anything quite like the intimate, exclusive and star-studded events hosted by Cliff Drysdale Tennis and their resort partners at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami and Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, CA.

Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

The difference is this was tennis you could actually play with the stars of the ATP and WTA Tours. This year’s event offered the opportunity to take the court with the likes of ATP World Tour top-10 players, Kei Nishikori of Japan and David Ferrer of Spain. Add in 16-time major championship winner, Martina Hingis, and former WTA No. 1, Jelena Jankovic, and words cannot describe how special this event was!

Words like “amazing,” “awesome” and “unreal,” were heard echoing throughout the Rancho Las Palmas Country Club during the five hours of pro am and professional play.

Many thanks to Cliff Drysdale Tennis and their stable of pros that run the tennis program at the Omni Rancho

Las Palmas.

Attendees started the day with a high energy, Cliff Drysdale Tennis-style pro am featuring Drysdale pros and WTA pro, Danielle Lao, playing with amateurs in a round robin format.

If “King of the Court” competitions are your thing, you were in luck. This was your chance to play points against and get the best of Hingis and Jankovic in a fun, but competitive environment.

Talk about competitive; two media members then took the court with Ferrer and Nishikori. First, with a chance to return Nishikori’s serves in a “serve off,” and that was followed by a short match with the two writers/broadcasters and the pros that produced some decent tennis.

Kids were even included as David Ferrer took the court to play some

points with a 10-year old, and then finally a mixed doubles match with Nishikori, Ferrer, Hingis and Jankovic, which entertained a few hundred spectators and the pro am participants.

Gift bags packed with items from Wilson, a tube of ProTennis sunscreen and a gift card from the PGA Superstore were given to all. The Omni also hosted a champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception where the participants were able to meet the ATP and WTA pros following the tennis.

For a first time event, this was an overhead smash winner. Cliff Drysdale Tennis is upping the ante when it comes to tennis in the California desert. Look for this event to be bigger in 2016 and beyond.

One of the picturesque seven islands of Marathon, FL, Duck Key is a pleasant sandy islet situated in the center of the Florida Keys. Hawks Cay Resort is an ideal family or romantic getaway.

Surrounded by the sights and sounds of soft surf and dolphins, there is plentiful sea life to explore just off our shores. Just south of Duck Key is The Old Seven Mile Bridge. Once a single railway track used to travel from Miami to Key West, there are now 2 lane bridges that are listed on

the National Register of Historical Places. Parts of the railroad still remain intact after the big hurricane.

This is my destination, your destination that you will revisit in every holiday dream. The island paradise will trumpet its memories as you reminisce about your time here. Perhaps most importantly you will remember the ace and drop-shot that won you the set that took you to a third on the tennis courts at Hawks Cay!

Great tennis players are born on the court through countless hours of practice and play. Drill after drill, swing after swing...you work on your speed, precision, and power. I applaud you all for pursuing such an amazing sport!

I have worked with many athletes in my career as a trainer and one thing I know for sure is that resistance

training is a basic requirement for sports performance, muscular endurance and injury prevention. Hours put into pure strength building give you the foundation to enhance your performance on the court.

I prepare full-body resistance training programs for my athletes at least two, preferably three days, per week.

Full-body strength training sessions

give you the most bang for your buck and ensure you have a balanced program. In each workout, you perform upper body push exercises (targeting shoulders, chest and triceps), upper body pull exercises (targeting back and biceps), legs and core exercises. Ideally, you do four exercises per section, circuiting through the exercises in giant sets and repeating the giant set three times.

Do 8-15 repetitions of each exercise, using a weight load that you would rate as a 7 or 8 (on a scale of 1-10) in difficulty level. For the core exercises, perform them for 30-45 seconds each. You may increase the duration of the core exercises as your fitness level increases.

Once you finish a section (i.e., upper body pull), then you move on to do three giant sets of the next section (i.e., upper body push). Then on to the legs and core sections.

Doing giant sets will allow you to transition from one exercise to the other without having to take long breaks in between. Do 8-15 repetitions of each exercise, using a weight load that you would rate

as a 7 or 8 (on a scale of 1-10) in difficulty level. For the core exercises, perform them for 30-45 seconds each. You may increase the duration of the core exercises as your fitness level increases.

The sun peacefully comes into view beyond the San Marcos Mountains as a new day emerges; and when the day comes to an end, locals witness the mirage effects of temperature inversions over the ocean causing a fleeting glimmer of a brilliant green tint at sunset, better know to the San Diegans as the “green flash.”

A vacation at La Costa is a getaway with endless activity and plenty of

options for the whole family throughout the year. Southern California’s unique splendor, is that in one day you can enjoy the beaches and renowned surf, and in just a

short couple hours experience the mountains, on occasion, complete with snow and winter activities.

We have two exciting additions to tennis at La Costa in 2015. We now offer a TennisFit program together with PFC Fitness. Participants will enjoy a physical training and nutrition program with 10 hours of tennis instruction, working on all aspects of the game burning a ton of calories! La Costa has also been invited to host World Team Tennis. We are very hopeful and excited to bring this level of entertaining tennis to Southern California fans this summer!

Resort Features: • 17 hard and clay courts (7 lighted)

• Luxuriously appointed rooms, suites and villas

• Two championship golf courses designed by PGA legends

• The Spa at La Costa, a renowned wellness spa ranked in the top 5 spas in the nation

I have been fortunate to live, travel and work in different areas in the

United States, but the desert of California is truly a place like no other. The opportunity to play tennis when it is a balmy 80 degrees surrounded by palm trees and vistas of snowy mountains is so gorgeous and surreal. Sometimes you find yourself having to stop playing for a few minutes to simply enjoy the view!

Our 25 courts are conveniently

located in the middle of our 27-hole golf course. This is not your typical tennis offering, we are serious about our program! There are also several world-class events that take place in the area, such as the BNP Paribas Tennis Open in March and the Coachella music festivals in April.

There are fantastic things to do year-round. From Palm Springs Aerial Tramway or a trip to Joshua Tree National Park, it’s endless entertainment for the whole family!

Resort Features: • 25 state-of-the-art tennis courts

• Lazy river, two waterslides and cliff-side hot tub in Splashtopia

• Four resort restaurants

• 50,000 square-feet of flexible meeting space

• 27-hole Ted Robinson-designed golf course

• 20,000 square-foot European spa with 26 treatment rooms

My first memories of working in America began at Stratton Mountain Resort. As I took the train into Vermont, I was preparing for an 18 month position with no real idea what was in store for me. When I arrived, the summer was in full swing with

adult clinics and kids camp taking place daily, and a lot of smiling faces on and off the court! I knew then that I was home.

All year round there is a family feel

to our New England resort. The mountain becomes a hub of activity during the summer as preparations for holiday celebrations such as 4th of July and the annual Wanderlust Yoga and Music festival loom. As leaves change color and the temperature becomes colder, our winter program is vastly different, but with just as much activity! Our indoor courts and world-class athletic center paired with the winter playground outdoors create a unique tennis experience for all to enjoy!

STAMINA . STRENGTH . POWER

A quiet, presently conscious mind will equate to a calmer, stronger performance on the court. Learn tips on how to quiet your mental chatter and connect with your breath from Stratton Mountain Resort’s yogini extraordinaire Sally Larkin.

breath now? Smoothing breath over the roughness of our activity can add stamina, strength and power.

There are many great techniques that move air, energy, awareness and solidify us to the present moment. In yoga ujjayi breath (ooh-jai-ee) helps blend breath, motion and mind together. With mouth closed, gently constrict back of the throat, almost like snoring. But lengthen the inhale and exhale to allow an audible, even, in breath and out, to sound like the ocean. This slow, thin rhythmic line of breath creates a balance of heat and cooling

by steadily oxygenating the blood through a strenuous practice. With time this technique becomes easier, deeper, longer and more silent.

Apply these elements or at least a deeper noticing of your breath to your quiet moments and to everyday movement, folding sheets, walking the dog, lifting weights, playing tennis. Come back to the basics, draw in new cleansing air and expel old spent air. Smoothly add breath, on breath, on breath. Each a fresh start. Focus on the noticing, just breathe. Take note and just be.

A breath, seems simple right? But have you sat still to notice. I’m not talking meditation, yet, though this would help. This is more. More like a general study, of something that is such a part of us that we tend to forget, take for granted and don’t realize ways to improve.

Take a few minutes, sit tall or lie still, notice everything about your normal quiet breath. Maybe cover ears, breathe loud, then quiet, maybe long, short and panting. Is your mouth open? Close it. Most animals breathe through the nose. Use yours. Besides smell, the nose and nasal canal also measure temperature, add humidity and clean the air for the lungs. Place hands on chest and belly, breathe naturally. Notice, does your belly rise, fall, with inhale or exhale? If you’re like me, stop “reverse breathing,” that’s pulling the belly in on inhale. Or does your chest move more? Nudge the breath deeper, lower. Let the abdomen move out a little with the inhale filling from low to high. Exhale high to low by first relaxing the upper chest, finish by gently squeezing air out of the low abdomen. Deeper breath alleviates anxiety.

Add motion. Inhale while the body and spine rise, open or expand. Exhale through folds, twists, contractions or contact. How is your

THINGS I WOULD CHANGE

If I was the commissioner of tennis... There are 7 things I would change.

Cliff Notes

1 No more shrieking! Decibel levels strictly enforced. Rod Laver told me he finally watched a woman’s final at the last US Open because he won’t watch the Shriekers.

2 Challenge systemChallenge system on every tournament court. This has changed the tennis atmosphere and competition for the better.

3 On court time clock.

To speed up the game and finish with the interminable waits between points. Enough with the time consuming high fives, chest bumping and chatter between doubles partners after every point.

4 Four all instead of six all.

Play a tiebreak in best of five set matches at four all instead of six all. Alternatively all matches should be best of three. It’s time to recognize in this modern world that matches cannot go on forever. TV needs a more definable time frame, and who wants to watch just two athletes go at it for five plus hours?

5 Modernize Davis CupThis valuable and historic competition is dying on the vine because the ITF refuses to adapt to the modern world. It needs a season, not four matches played every year with months apart. Does anyone remember who won last years Cup? I have devised a format change that keeps the home and away format but is played in a three week season every two years. It would be tennis equivalent of the Ryder Cup and could become as big as the majors.

6 Standardize EquipmentBan any string that allows for excessive spin. Like the hexagonal strings that have altered the character of the game by making net approaches nearly impossible. So serve and volley is dead. Racket technology should also be contained for the same reason.

7 WTA rules allow coachingThe on court coaches visit on the WTA tour is interesting and often informative for TV viewers. It’s time for the ATP to tour to introduce the same thing and the majors will eventually get with the program.
