Children of reading age can explore the exhibit on their own. Younger children can participate in solving the crime with the assistance of an adult. Throughout the entire exhibit visitors use numerous scientific processing skills. Crime Lab Detective also encourages visitors to get involved in the exhibit through role-play and fosters open discussion and debate. Science concepts covered in the exhibit include forensics, fingerprints, footprints, chromatographs, DNA, insect life cycles, tread marks, hair analysis, thread comparison, and handwriting analysis. This fun, educational opportunity was made possible through a grant from the Erie Community Foundation. Valentine MakingSaturday, February 12th and Sunday, February 13th 1pm-4pm Want to make a special Valentine for someone you know? You can create your own Valentine at the Museum using all recycled material!

This activity is included with Museum admission and is free for members.

ExpeRIence TRAINS 2011Saturday, March 12th 10am-4pmWe are very excited about our 1st ever “expERIEnce Trains” event! In addition to exploring the interesting world of trains, including several train exhibits we have in the museum, those attending this event will have the opportunity to meet the conductor from the Oil City & Titusville Railroad, Dr. Dick Roth.

Also joining us to share their expertise will be Tim Clint, of Lord Corporation, and John Groters, local train enthusiast.

Families in attendance can enjoy a tour of our various train exhibits, learn interesting facts about locomotives, and participate in special train-themed art activities. PLUS, the real steam locomotive Viscose Locomotive #6 is expected to make a trip to Erie from Dunkirk, NY on its specially built trailer. It will be parked outside the Museum for the children to climb aboard and explore.

This event is included in Museum admission and free to members.

A Shoe for Every Job, will be visiting the Blasco Library and the expERIEnce Children’s Museum. Ages 4-10Provide children the chance to explore the world around them

by getting their hands dirty with science and art- related topics.

Each RAZZMA consists of mini-lessons based on the theme, hands-on activities, stories and a small snack. Pre-Registration is required. Register by calling 453-3743.

Penguin Paluza Mon. Feb. 21st (President’s Day Holiday) Penguins are more than just cuties in tuxedos! Did you know there are 16 types of penguins in the world? Come dive into the world of penguins as we discover what they eat, how they stay warm, places they live and more!

Feathered Friends Sat. March 5th This is a great time of year to do some bird watching! Come to the Museum to learn what special adaptations make our feathered friends so amazing!

Theater Games Sat. March 19th Bring out your inner actor or actress! We’ll spread our wings and imagine as we play games that foster teamwork, self-esteem and confidence.

Puppet MakingSat. March 26th Do you love puppets? In this class, we’ll make several creative puppets and put on our own puppet show!

Music Mania Sat. April 9th

Special Time 1pm-4pm Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Mozart to name a few. Come and listen to their music, do some creative movements, and draw pictures based on the sounds! Play with some stimulating instruments and learn why they make the sounds they do. You’ll even make your own instrument to take home!

Flying High Sat. April 19thLearn about the first plane and how it flew. Play with our own Aerodynamics exhibit and expERIEnce the power of air!

Lego/K’nex Wed. April 20thCome build and play with Legos and K’nex! See how a pulley works with the use of K’nex and how Legos can be used to work with robots!

Painting Like The Masters Thurs. April 21st ExpERIEnce different painting and art styles that the master artists used. Learn about the pointillism technique used by Seurat, where a picture is made out of a collection of small dots and use large, thick brushes to paint like van Gogh!

Mother’s Day Sat. May 7thSpend the day before Mother’s Day making special crafts for her. Make your own card, gift, and wrapping!

Pirateology Sat. May 21st Come to the Museum and learn about pirates! Make you own pirate hat and eye patch and learn some pirate lingo. We’ll learn about what pirates actually did and search for buried treasure!

Breakfast with SantaOur sell-out event was a huge hit again this year! Hundreds of children and their families enjoyed a hot breakfast, a visit from Santa and puppet and musical entertainment.

Chemistry Day

We saw almost 400 people attend this event during National Chemistry Week! The day included hands-on science exper- iments and chemical demonstrations. The event was coordi-nated by Erie Local Section of the American Chemical Society and Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

ReCeNT FUN at expeRIence Children’s Museum

Halloween HullabalooThe event kicked off this year with a Halloween Chemistry Spooktacular presented by Penn State Erie, The Behrend College and the fun continued with slimy ghouls, spooky appari-tions, creepy pumpkins, and live owl presentations.

4th Annual Multicultural Asia DayThis event proved to be a success once again. Families were treated to special crafts, performances and hands-on activities throughout the day while learning about the many different Asian cultures. The event is coordinated with help from the Erie Asian Pacific American Forum (APAF) and GE Volunteers.

New Years at NoonWe rang in the New Year (a few hours early) with hundreds of Museum visitors who celebrated family-style with a traditional countdown, balloon drop, music and singing!

We will celebrate magic and excitement when little girls become royal princesses at the Museum!
