Lost Pets Many times lost pets find themselves at the shelter If your pet is lost check the websitersquos Shelter Pets tab frequently as itrsquos updated throughout the day If you see your petrsquos photo call so you can be reunited (Owners will be required to show photo ID and proof of pet ownership)If an animal arrives and is microchipped or has an identification tag the owner will be contacted to reclaim their pet Unfortunately an animalrsquos tag is often lost making it difficult to reunite with the owners If your pet is missing and you have not seen their photo in our gallery we recommended you visit the shelter in personAnimals arriving to the shelter without identification are considered stray and are held for three business days before being made available for adoption

ComplaintsCitationsCan be made for suspected neglect mistreatment or if an animal is behaving in a way that is threatening to the welfare of the community please call 7703393200Neighborhood assistance may be necessary to document ordinance violations if we did not witness the violationOccasionally a resident may receive an orange warning card as notification of a potential Ordinance violation or complaint Whenever possible opportunities are offered to correct a violation before court action occursPet owners can be subject to criminal andor civil legal action if their pet damages property or injures another animal or a human

ANIMAL WELFARE amp ENFORCEMENT

We are an open-admissions center meaning most animals are accepted We attempt to find appropriate adoptive homes or rescue groups for all animals Animals may be refused or euthanized if they are injured diseasedinfectious aggressive and as a last resort to prevent overcrowding

AdoptionFosterRescue PlacementAdoption is an exciting and fulfilling way to add a loving pet your family Each year we care for approximately 7000 stray abandoned and surrendered animals When animals arrive at the Animal Welfare Center their health and temperament are evaluated Healthy and even-tempered animals are available for adoption or transferred to a rescue All animals arriving at the center are scanned for a microchip and if none is found they are held for three days to allow owners an opportunity to be reunited with their lost pet All adoptions or fosters are handled on a first-come first-served basis there are no holdsBefore your visit complete the adoption or foster applications on-line so our knowledgeable staff can assist with finding the perfect fit for your family

Owner SurrenderUnfortunately there are times when pet owners find themselves unable or unwilling to care for their pet Pet owners are encouraged to attempt to re-home their pet though family friends or rescue organizations before bringing it to the shelter Pets surrendered to the shelter by their owner are immediately available for adoptionAn appointment is preferred when surrendering a pet to the Animal Welfare Center Complete the owner surrender appointment request form on-line you will then be contacted to schedule an appointment Surrendered pets must meet the following criteria

bull Must be current on vaccinations administered at least two weeks prior to surrender (must provide paperwork from a licensed veterinarian)

bull Pet cannot have any health issuesbull Pet must pass a temperament evaluation by an animal

control officerbull The owner must show proof of ownershipbull At peak seasons the shelter may not accept

surrendered pets due to lack of space
