Extra-Curricular 2019-2020
Our Extra-Curricular Offer
Here at Co-op Academy North Manchester we offer a large number of extra-curricular clubs, trips and visits that you can be involved in over the course of the year. There are clubs which are directly related to subjects that you study, and those which are not. The variety on offer makes sure that the interests and needs of all our pupils are catered for.
We are sure that you can find a club that you love!
Questions you might have:
Why should I join a club?
Extra-curricular clubs are a great way to meet other pupils from both your year and other years. They allow you to learn new skills and to share experiences. You may even have the opportunity to represent the Academy at a drama or music event, as part of a sports team, or in competitions against other schools. The opportunities are endless.
How do I know which club is on?
We will provide you with a weekly timetable of activities which run before-school, at lunch and after-school. The same clubs run at the same times every week. Club lists are displayed around the Academy, on our school website, and in your form room.
Do I need to attend each week?
We do ask that where possible, you attend the club each week. At first, you may wish to try different clubs and then choose which you wish to commit to. It is important that you demonstrate our key value of commitment.
Do I have to pay to attend a club?
All after school clubs are free. You may occasionally be asked to make a contribution to a trip, but this will be communicated to your parents or carers in a letter.
What should I do if I cannot attend a club?
If you cannot attend, we do ask that you speak to the member of staff who runs the club to let them know in person. That way you won’t miss out on anything and you can continue to demonstrate your commitment to the club.
Are there any clubs that will support me with my homework?
The homework hub is open at different times during the day and is the place to visit if you wish to complete your homework in a purposeful study space with resources to support your learning. You will need to obtain a pass to go to homework club, speak to the academic mentors.
What happens if a club is cancelled after school?
If the club has to be cancelled, then you can go to your Head of Year and ask to make contact with home to let them know. You can leave school at the normal time and make your own way home, or you can wait in the school library or in the homework hub if you are due to be collected at the time the club normally finishes.
How many clubs can I join?
You are welcome to join as many clubs as you would like. When thinking about which clubs to join, remember that you will need to be committed to them and be able to balance attendance at these alongside your homework and any other commitments that you already have.
Will I be able to get my lunch if I attend a club?
If you attend a club then you will be provided with a pass that will enable you to get served faster. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring a packed lunch and eat this in the dining area before you go to your club. The staff member will explain this to you.
Don’t forget there is a free breakfast served from 8am if you are attending an early morning club.
