Page 2 New Opportunities: Archery--Students will be able to safely shoot a bow and arrow after completion of the class. The archery program will be included in the Wildlife Management class as a part of Hunter education and will be taught with the NASP rules and guidelines.
Fire-fighting—Students will be exposed to firefighting as a potential career choice using
the same curriculum which professional firefighters must master to be certified in a de-
manding and rewarding career. Students will be prepared to enter a firefighting academy
upon graduation.
Forensics—Students will be introduced to the basics of how to conduct an investigation
using chemistry and physics to “solve the crime.”
Dual Credit on Campus—Students are given the opportunity to
remain on campus and participate in dual credit classes in con-
junction with Northeast Texas Community College.
Chess—Students at West Elementary, South Elementary and
Daingerfield Junior High are given the opportunity to learn the
game of chess which involves problem solving, hones concen-
tration, and encourages analytical and strategic thinking. The
end result can improve overall academics and self-
esteem. Not only is playing chess a life-time activity,
students also have the prospect of participating com-
petitively in UIL contests.
Outstanding Recognition: DHS Math Team—2015—2nd place State in Calcula-tor; 2014—1st place State in Calculator; 2013—2nd place State in Calculator; 2012—1st place State in Number Sense and Calculator; 2011—1st place State in Number Sense

Northeast Texas Credit Union--$5,000 awarded to the district through the Debit Card Plan to be used for student field trips

Community Involvement Programs:
Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)—Positive male role models spend time at school encouraging students Mentoring Pals—Community volunteers dedicate 30 minutes once a month to eat lunch, tutor, or read to a student at a school.P.T.O.—Parents and teachers joining together to support and promote the schools.
Band Boosters—Parents and other volunteers support and promote the Junior High and High School band programs.
Athletic Boosters—Parents and other volunteers support and pro-mote athletics
Veterans Program—Community members who have served in the Armed Forces and are willing to be honored at our schools on Vet-erans Day observe Veterans Day in the schools.
School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)/Ounce of Prevention—Parents, community leaders, and agencies meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month to set goals and plan for the health education of our students.
Students in the Community—DLSISD wants our students to be active in the community; many programs involve students serving the community. We encour-age parents to support their students’ involvement and commu-nity members to look for ways we can serve. Examples: Food drives (Multiple). Adopt a Grandparent at Windsor South Elementary). Stu-dent Groups serving at Community Banquets (JH, HS).
Mission Possible—Parents and Communities teaming up to prevent underage drinking, marijuana use, and prescription drug abuse.
