Blocks

Block Sashing

From white for border:• Cut 4, 11⁄2 x 40 - inch strips From these strips cut 2, 11⁄2 x 261⁄2 - inch side borders 2, 11⁄2 x 281⁄2 - inch top and bottom borders

Binding

From turquoise print for binding:• Cut 4, 21⁄4 x 40 - inch strips

Piecing

Use 1⁄4 - inch seam allowance throughout,a small stitch length, and press seams open.

Blocks

• For each Cheerio block you will need: 2, 27⁄8 x 27⁄8 - inch print squares 4, 21⁄2 x 21⁄2 - inch matching print squares 2, 27⁄8 x 27⁄8 - inch white squares 1, 21⁄2 x 21⁄2 - inch white square

• Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of 2, 27⁄8 x 27⁄8 - inch white squares. With right sides facing, layer 1, 27⁄8 x 27⁄8 - inch white square and 1, 27⁄8 x 27⁄8 - inch print square together. Stitch 1⁄4 - inch away from each side of the drawn line. Cut apart on marked line and press. Half square triangles measure 21⁄2 - inches square.

Make 4 half square triangles.

• Arrange and sew: 4 half square triangles 4, 21⁄2 x 21⁄2 - inch matching print squares and 1, 21⁄2 x 21⁄2 - inch white square into a block as shown.

Block measures 61⁄2 x 61⁄2 - inches.

• Repeat with the remaining prints for a total of 8 blocks.

Block SashingThere are two different block sashing combinations.

For the first you will need: 1 Cheerio block 1, 11⁄2 x 61⁄2 - inch white rectangle 1, 11⁄2 x 71⁄2 - inch white rectangle 1, 31⁄2 x 71⁄2 - inch white rectangle 1, 31⁄2 x 101⁄2 - inch white rectangle

• Arrange and sew rectangles as shown working clockwise.

Make 4

For the second you will need: 1 Cheerio block 1, 41⁄2 x 61⁄2 - inch white rectangle

• Arrange and sew as shown.

Make 2

Quilt Assembly • Arrange, rotate and sew: 6 Cheerio blocks with sashing 2 Cheerio blocks and 1, 61⁄2 x 141⁄2 - inch white rectangle into the quilt center as shown.

Border

• Sew a 11⁄2 x 261⁄2 - inch white side border to each side of the quilt center. Then sew a 11⁄2 x 281⁄2 - inch white border to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Quilt measures 281⁄2 x 281⁄2 - inches.

Finishing

• Layer, baste, hand or machine quilt, trim, and add binding.

Quilt center measures 261⁄2 x 261⁄2 - inches.
