Heart of a Priest – Major Relic of St. John Vianney—His Incorrupt Heart—

Coming to Wheeling and Charleston during Holy Week

As you are aware, the incorrupt heart of St. John Marie Vianney will be coming to our area in less than a month. It will be in Wheeling at the Cathedral of St. Joseph on Tuesday, April 16 from 9AM through to the close of the Chrism Mass that evening. St. Michael Parish time is 9am. In order to provide proper care and to give due reverence to the relic, we are striving to make sure that there are always faithful present throughout the day in the church. The relic will be available for veneration throughout the day for everyone; however, each of the parishes in the Wheeling area are asked to promote a particular hour slot for parishioners to come in order to ensure that there will always be people present in the church while the relic is present. Therefore, I encourage a sign up sheet to be made in your churches for the particular hour slots that your church has been given so we can be assured that there will indeed be someone there at that time. Again, people can come at whatever time they choose, but these are just to ensure that the relic is indeed given due care and veneration at all hours. I greatly appreciate your help with this matter. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions ([email protected].). God bless, Fr. Brian Crenwelge

I love the night sky. I have a fabulous app which helps me to identify all of the different objects in the heavens above, but I normally just gaze at the beauty and splendor. A few weeks ago, I was fortunate to see a brilliant meteoroid streaking across the sky. I thanked God for the spectacular sight and then I made a wish. It’s one of those old legends that a wish will come true if you see a shooting star. Do you whisper wishes? How about “Star light, star bright, First star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, Have this wish I wish tonight.” When you catch a genie or a leprechaun, are you ready with your wishes? Have you ever tossed a penny in a fountain and made a wish – or over the bridge on your way to TJs? Those are fun examples of wishing and wishful thinking. I do, however, know an incredible group of people who make wishes come true on a regular basis…OUR PARISHIONERS! From time to time our school may post a “classroom wish list” in the bulletin. The quick response is fabulous! Our Stewardship Council has orchestrated several collections (warm coats, canned food, toiletries) and again, the bins in the back of the church are filled. Tags on the Angel Tree are transformed into gifts for neighbors in need. Just for fun, in December I published a wish list from the Parish Staff. At the meeting when we discussed the list I was cautioned to not share my true wish, which was for a puppy. We feared that our generous parishioners might grant my wish and our office would have turned into a Puppy Palace! Father Martin wished for a manual deluxe typewriter and in a flash, Craig O’Leary brought in the relic. Jenny Imer wished for bean bags chairs and ping pong balls for the Youth Group and Abracadabra– the items appeared! Truth be told, it’s not magic or unicorns that make wishes come true. It’s YOU.

2019 DAY OF GIVING Mark your calendars for the 2019 Day of Giving. This will take place on Tuesday, May 7. Please consider being generous and supporting our school.

THE LITLE MERMAID JR. On Thursday , April 11th and Saturday, April 13th the SMPS Music Department proudly presented The Little Mermaid Jr. Based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen and the Disney film, this fishy tale follows the adventures of Ariel (Taylor Andrews), the little mermaid who desperately wants to become a part of the human world. She is joined by friends Sebastian (Isaac Schmitt), Flounder (Alyssa Parker), and Scuttle (Reagan Jones) who have a chance encounter with a human, Prince Eric (Mason Schmitt). Following an argument with her father, King Triton (Ryan Blair), Ariel seeks help from the evil Ursula (Gianna Cipriani) who offers to make Ariel human in exchange for her voice.

However, Prince Eric must kiss Ariel within three days or she will turn back into a mermaid and become Ursula's slave forever. The cast is rounded off by Grimsby (Will Medovic), Flotsam & Jetsam (Natalie Chaplin and Amelia Mandel), Chef Louis (Andrew Hartzell), the Pilot (Luke McCabe), and the Mersisters (Ava Hanson, Adisyn Gessler, Isabella Contraguerro, Emily Blatt, Karli Yocum, and Bridget Zoeckler).

SPECIAL THANK YOU! A special Thank you to Dr. and Mrs. Jeremy Tiu and Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Burge for their very generous donations made to our music department. Also, to an anonymous donor that purchased 33 brand new children’s bibles for our middle school and an anonymous donor that made a monetary donation to our school. All of these donations totaled more than $1000.00! Also, a special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Kaufman for their SPONSOR-A-STUDENT DONATION! You have made an incredible impact on a child’s life by providing a year of Catholic education for a blessed young person!

SARRIS CANDY FUNDRAISER The Sarris Candy Fundraiser held from March 18th - March 29th was a huge success. Our school and church community sold over 355 boxes of Sarris Candy. This money will be directed to the purchase of new Smartboards for the 2019-2020 school year. Thanks again to everyone for your support and a great shout out to those families that kept asking to sell more! Lastly, we would like to address one important aspect about the Sarris Candy Sale. Please remember THIS WAS NOT

MANDATORY as mentioned previously, but expected. For the future, if anyone has a suggestion for a different fundraiser that can generate

$12,780.00 in two weeks, Mrs. Nodurft would welcome any ideas you may have.

HELP THE GIRL SCOUTS!

BOY SCOUTS Submitted by Phil Emmerth

This August, scouts from Troop 5 here at St. Michael’s are going on a high-adventure trip of a lifetime. The scouts are going to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM for a 6 day backpacking adventure. The adventure starts in Pittsburgh where we catch the Amtrak’s Capitol Limited train to Chicago. After a 6 hour layover and short tour of downtown Chicago, we take the Amtrak Southwest Chief for a 19 hour journey across the Midwest to Raton, NM where we catch a school bus for a 45 minute drive to Philmont Scout Ranch. Once there, we meet our guide, gather our gear, pack our backpacks and ready for the trek. Each scout must carry all that they need to survive in their backpack. These packs usually weigh around 40 pounds. The scouts will cover the 36 mile trek under very rugged conditions with only their compass to guide them. Along the way, we may cross paths with black bears and mountain lions along with the soaring bald eagle. The pinnacle of the trip will be climbing the 12,441 foot peak of Baldy Mountain where the view will be spectacular. We end our trek at base camp with the traditional Closing Campfire and many memories. The train ride home will be quiet as we sleep off the miles of hiking and look forward to sleeping in our own bed.

Holy Thursday & the Ringing of the Bells We invite all who plan to attend the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday (April 18th) to bring bells from home of various shapes and sizes. As you know, the church bells located in the tower and the bells within the church are to ring out during the Gloria on Holy Thursday and then are silenced until the Gloria on Holy Saturday. So we invite you to highlight the Gloria on this special night by ringing your bells during this great hymn of

praise which we have “abstained” from during the season of Lent.

In the Liturgy of the Hours, the Church fulfills Jesus’ command to “pray always”. St Michael’s Prayed in Pittsburgh, March

30, 2019 Today we know of 263 babies saved

from abortion [world wide] through YOUR prayers since March 6. Many of those lives are being saved in places where pro-lifers can’t expect help ending abortion from their elected officials. Illinois, for example, is about to pass legislation so extreme it would make the state the most abortion-friendly in the country. Even New York’s legalization of third-trimester abortion pales in comparison. To make matters worse, in 2017, the previous governor of Illinois mandated taxpayer funding of abortion for poor women.
