The 2017 Parish Fes val successfully raised $48,393.18. Congratula ons to the commi ee and

the hundreds of people who worked so hard to present three days of food, fun and fellowship. The Fes val was awesome and we con nue to stay strong as a tradi onal summer event in Wheeling. Many of our neighboring churches have reluctantly re red their fes vals. We are blessed to have a seemingly endless supply of outstanding volunteers who will dedicate their

me and talent to this epic undertaking. Without a doubt, each commi ee stands on the shoulders of those who have chaired in the past. For one last me this year, we extend our apprecia on to the 2017 commi ee: Melissa and Jeremy Tiu, Amanda and Jeremy Lowe, Adrianne and Jacob Manning, Audrey Dieffenbaugher, and Tammy and David Rapp and ALL of our previous chairpersons and volunteers! Mark your calendars, our 2018 Fes val will be July 12, 13, 14!

My husband and I were talking to a friend who moved from Wheeling after graduating from college. We had a grand time reminiscing about friends, family and the good old days. We recalled some of the legends and traditions – DiCarlos, Oglebay, Moon Dog, Coleman’s Fish Market, the Alpha, the Pink Lady at Greenwood Cemetery, Green’s Donuts and the Suspension Bridge. I think many people would agree that St. Michael Parish and St. Michael Parish School hold a place on the list. We have been a part of the Wheeling community for well over a century! The original St. Michael Catholic Church was dedicated in 1897 and the ground was broken for our current church in 1950. Our school can also trace its roots to the late 1800’s. We have an incredible tradition of faith, formation, education, social outreach and community. Our Catholic identity is strong! Stop for a moment to ponder how many people have sat in our pews for the celebration of Eucharist. Think of the many times our sacraments have been celebrated. How many poinsettias and Easter lilies have been lovingly placed in our church? How many rosaries have been said and candles lighted? There are truly thousands of people who have walked into our church and have called it home. I could go on and on as I think of babies being baptized, wedding bells ringing, and final farewells. We worship together. We pray together. We are family. WE ARE ST. MIKES! -Wendy Hinerman, Business Manager This week you will receive a brochure detailing the Increased Offertory Program our parish will be par cipa ng in over the next few weeks. This informa ve brochure is intended to communicate the financial needs of our parish and why we are having a dedicated focus on our parish offertory. Commitment Sunday for this Program is September 16 and 17. We encourage all parishioners to spend me in prayer and discussion with your family reflec ng on the parish’s needs and your current level of giving. We look forward to seeing all of our parishioners at Mass next weekend for this very important Commitment Sunday. If you have any ques ons regarding the Increased Offertory Program please feel free to contact the Parish Office.

St. Michael Parish School has adopted a new bullying prevention program school-wide. While we are all Bucket Fillers for life, we are now focused on wearing our wings and earning our halo. Monthly, students will have class meetings and work through scenarios dealing with how to treat others and how to assertively communicate about bullying. On these days, students are asked to wear the new shirts to school. The dates are on the monthly, colored SMPS calendars. We will place ONE more order for anyone who missed the first chance to purchase a shirt. In addition to the short sleeve, a long sleeve option has been added to this final order. Uniforms will be required on “Wear your wings; earn your halo!” days for all students who did not order a shirt. If you need special assistance with the cost of the shirt or wish to purchase a shirt and need an order form please contact Shandi Nodurft @ 304.242.3966 ext. 4. Please do so no later than Friday, September 15.
